Move through the city establishing secure locations and going on missions to bring each area under control, earning cash to spend on your substantial arsenal and upgrade tree. Radiant Defense definitely keeps elements that you would always expect from the tower defense genre, but you remove the predetermined path and get the ability to create the path they will follow to their doom (hopefully). Lasers will fly, aliens will die, and the entire time your fingers will be nimbly working to hold off a rather comically bad invasion story unfold.

My Little Army My Little Army is clever strategy fun that wears its real-time nature on its sleeve, made from cutesy graphics and carried forward by purely-for-decoration storylines. You might even be fooled by thinking that this makes the game easy. See if you feel that way when a giant Jason is stomping your Khan Kong's face.

Lake City Rumble II Christine Love's Lake City Rumble II is not your run-of-the-mill fighting game, but instead offers an experience where choice and interpretation is everything if you want to pack a real punch into your attacks. Will you beat Qaisar, or accept defeat? Time to enter the arena.

Orbital Onslaught! Nerdook goes intergalactic with this cute, simple to learn RTS-lite title that stars you as a bounty hunter traveling from planet to planet deploying your robot army in an effort to bring The Bad Guys(tm) to justice. Build and upgrade your army as you take on the worst the galaxy has to offer in this clever little hybrid.

Carveola Incident Sgt. Kirley and his men thought they were finally headed home after the war, but instead they find themselves ordered to join up with enemy forces and sent to defend a massive trench, apparently in the middle of nowhere. Why? Well, it turns out zombies really like trenches (and this one is pretty sweet, amirite?), and if you want to protect this one from the new undead menace, you'll have to master your gun and handle your troops in this simple but effective shooter/defense hybrid from WootraGames.

Cardian Card games turn deadly with Cardian, the strategy/defense/action hybrid that will keep you on your toes as you scrabble to summon enough soldiers to destroy your opponent's portal before they reach yours. Unlock new cards with unique creatures, abilities, or resources in your quest to defeat the six masters of the game.

Dirt of the Dead Certainly we know about the immediate dangers of the undead: the biting and the clawing and the infecting and the whatnot. What about the larger environmental concerns? I mean, a zombie claws his way out of a shallow grave... who's going to be re-sodding that ground? A vampire explodes in a fiery cloud of dust... someone needs to sweep that up. And don't even get me started on what can happen when a werewolf gets in your flower bed. 3kggames's new action looper Dirt of the Dead shows that the clean-up can get just as intense as the confrontation.

Atom Zombie Smasher Atom Zombie Smasher is a game about zombies. It is not, however, your typical game about zombies. Where other games about zombies might have you playing as the heroic survivor who somehow escaped infection via genetic anomaly or dumb luck, Blendo Games' latest release does not. Instead, this ridiculously innovative tower defense-like real-time strategy game will put you in the role of faceless commander charged with the evacuation of his fellow citizens. This time, you get to be the one who orders the orbital nukes!

Shattered Colony: The Survivors Addictive, intense and unforgiving, Shattered Colony: The Survivors is a tower defense game from Jonathan Duerig doesn't really fit the normal definitions of the genre. Your only protection against the zombie apocalypse is a rag-tag group of survivors with limited expertise and supplies. How long can you last, and will the choices you make be the ones that keep you alive, or bring about an untimely end?

SteamBirds: Survival An expansion of the dogfighting turn-based strategy hit, SteamBirds: Survival, focuses itself on October 15th, 1940. You must do all you can to hold off the Axis forces over the city of London so that civilians can evacuate. There will never be a victory parade since your defeat is assured, but you will want to last as long as possible all the same. Choose your plane, and Godspeed.

Bloons Tower Defense 4 Expansion The Bloons Tower Defense games are some of the most popular ever featured on this site. Ninjakiwi has come up with an expansion pack that is fun, challenging, intriguing, frustrating (in places), and guaranteed to suck you right back into the world of the Bloons (just when you thought you were out). Will this tide us over until Bloons Tower Defense 5 comes out? Maybe, maybe not. But it's definitely worth checking out, if only for the amusement of finding the super secret surprise.

War Of Cells Global warming is going to be our undoing, but not because we will suddenly run out of polar bear pelts or ice for our afternoon drinks. Thanks to raising temperatures, more ice starts to melt, unleashing a virus that has remained frozen for millennia. But this is not any virus. It is alien in origin and it plans to evolve and destroy us. It is also intelligent, because it is who you are in this action/strategy game.

Blobble Wars It's a lesson you learn very early on, the first time someone gives you a crayon: if you can make things green, suddenly everything ought to be green. So if Blobble Wars, the new action game with a dash of strategy from J. Appleyard, gives you a green blobble spitting tower, then red, yellow, blue and grey towers better watch their backs, yo.

Age of War 2 Soldiers, make ready your spears, your griffons, your... battle mech suits? Hmmm. This fast-paced defense/strategy game puts you in command of a base you have to defend through the ages, balancing your ever-increasing troops against the growing might of an opposing force.

Legend Of Kupapa Banished by the peace loving Kupapians, it seems that that which made you a pariah could be what saves them from an invasion of evil monsters. Now you must raise an army and protect the very people that cast you out in this defense shooter hybrid.

Pixel Legions Might makes right in this realtime strategy game where the goal is to overwhelm your opponent's base with your soldiers while protecting your own. And by soldiers, I mean pixels. And by pixels, I mean... no, no, I mean pixels. From Pixelante, as it would happen! A colourful, fast-paced action game where victory depends on the speed on your fingers.

Omega Crisis Arm yourself with the experimental Omega cannon in this hybrid defense/shooter/resource management game as you struggle to defend your base from hostile invaders. Gather what you need to bolster your defenses, and unlock new technology to help combat the threat. From typically high-action developer Lucidrine comes a slower and more strategic title set in the great beyond.

Nob War: The Elves Think elves are awesome? Sure you do. That's why you want to play this clever side-scrolling game of fantasy warfare! March on an enemy castle, deploying expendable human and centaur troops, and earn cash to upgrade your army or purchase new abilities. Control your actions and control your victory!

Knight Elite Like being king of your castle? Best keep those orcish hordes at bay with a bit of fighting, building and training. But mostly fighting. After planting his castle on what might have been the resident sacred patch of land, a knight is facing wave after wave of orcs keen to remove him from the local scenery in Ninja Kiwi's interesting defense/hack-and-slash twist.

Mushroom Madness 2 Some days, don't cute and furry animals just make you want to go all Ted Nugent on their...bums? Mushroom Madness 2 fulfills that inner madman in all of us who just wants to smack, smash, DESTROY! Play Mushroom Madness 2, animal control in the form of casual gameplay.

SteamBirds A turn-based aerial dogfighting game may sound bland in writing, but as SteamBirds conclusively proves, it's the whole nine yards of awesome. Working from a top-down perspective, you fight a series of increasingly difficult enemies with your small squadron of planes. Set your course, unleash a fancy ability if necessary, and try to maneuver yourself to a direct line-of-sight to your foe to set your guns blazing. And, you know, don't get shot down yourself.

BigTree Defense Take gardening to a whole new level in this defense title where you handle the growth of one of the last plants on Earth to help it stave off an insect invasion. You'll need to plan ahead and use your resources carefully if you want to avoid being covered in hundreds of stinging, biting, space bugs. And really, who doesn't?

The Next Floor Third floor; housewares, garden, home repair... CARNAGE. In this clever little tower defense game, hold out over multiple levels against incoming creeps as you strive to protect that symbol of mankind's courage, freedom, and ingenuity; the elevator shaft. Purchase new elevators (yay!), upgrade your weaponry (huzzah!), and repaint the corridor.

Starcom Starcom is a top-down space shooter and strategy game, with subtle RPG elements like a well-paced story progression and "missions." You are stationed aboard a Galactic Command Starbase (space station), playing the role of a space fighter pilot with a starting mission of fending off alien attacks. Starcom really shines, revealing story elements at just the right moments while incorporating it all into the gameplay progression.
