David David is a game, an arcade game, and David is a very unusual game. Our little polygon hero finds himself in a world of abstract shapes and giant evil beasts that are out to eviscerate him one angle at a time. His only powers are the ability to run away like a little yellow belly and fire slingshot-like blasts at his foes. Sometimes he feels powerful, sometimes victorious, but there's always nagging feelings of helplessness and hopelessness in this dangerous world that just wants David to go away.

Cardinal Quest 2 Ready to die just a little bit more? Then you're ready for Cardinal Quest 2, the turn-based roguelike sequel to 2012's Cardinal Quest, brought to you by randomnine (maker of Fear is Vigilance and a consultant on the original Cardinal Quest game). You'll recognize the great pixel art and the procedurally generated maps of the first game, and appreciate the new complexity.

Words & Cards "Words & Cards," you ask, "could it be a game about dinosaurs and Swiss watches?" Alas, no. In Words & Cards, you've got to make a word from a pool of letters you share with your opponent. Each consonant in the word you play turns into a playing card, with which you can score extra points by making poker hands. It sounds simple (and it is), but there's more strategy involved than you might think.

Noir Syndrome Detective work isn't known for its shallow learning curve. Or for being the kind of thing you can do while standing in line at the post office. With Noir Syndrome, however, solving crimes has become quite a bit more casual. This pick up and play adventure game gives you randomly generated murder mysteries to solve, all you have to do is gather the clues and make the arrest! Oh, and pick a few locks, shoot a few baddies, and have a few snacks. Detectives gotta eat too, you know.

Sokoboom 2 Who needs bells and whistles? Not this little puzzle game. Though more of the same straightforward Sokoban as the original, this sequel keeps the presentation sleek and simple and the levels challenging to make it a satisfying and welcome little addition to the genre.

Cabin Escape: Alice's Story Cabin Escape: Alice's story is a lively challenge for room escape fans, especially those that would like to see the clear, logical elements common to the best eastern-designed escapes presented with a western flair. In Polar Escape, a new escape game from Just Pine Games, your coworkers have locked you in someone's room, and you have to get out so you can be rescued. Block Legend Block Legend is unfairly beguiling. We say this because it's so deceptively simple on the surface, yet its design allows for play sessions that never stop. And that's good, because you honestly won't want to. Created by Alvin Phu, Block Legend feels a lot like 10000000 mixed with Puzzle Quest (you know, back when it was good). It combines samegame with an RPG, allowing you to match tiles to attack, defend and level up. And it does so without ads, in-app purchases, or any other crazy gimmicks!

Mines of Mars Time to get digging. Mines of Mars is a wholly addicting mining and exploration game created by Crescent Moon Games. It plays a lot like the classic Motherload or the criminally underappreciated early iOS release iDigIt. Take your pickaxe and start pecking away at the soil, gathering metals and gems you can carry back to the surface to refine into useable materials. Then take those materials and upgrade your tools so you can dig even deeper!

Created by Niffler, a team of indie developers that happens to include the original creator of Chip's Challenge Chuck Sommerville, the multi-platform sokoban-like game takes the tile-based puzzles from the original release and updates it for modern players. You'll still deal with slippery ice floors, falling platforms, enemies marching back and forth, and a large supply of items to collect before you can open the door. But now you'll do it with full camera control and lots of pretty visuals!

Steps Steps is an experimental iPad game made by Seph Li and Yangzi She. Inspired by taking a walk (you know, in the real world), Steps came about as a sort of two-fingered virtual exploration game designed to share the experiences you have when meandering around the world. There are no puzzles to solve or enemies to fight, just some sights to see, some postcards to uncover, and new roads to travel down.

Paint it Back Paint it Back is a picross game from Casual Labs that aims for ease of use and an attractive presentation. It scores well on both of these fronts, toning down the difficulty just a touch in favor of inviting new players into the world of nonograms. Expect lots of crazy paintings, a handful of achievements, and many hours of staring at the screen wondering which block to fill next.

Draw the Line Do you remember those puzzles where you have to trace an image without lifting the pencil or retracing your steps? Draw The Line isn't one of those, no matter how much it looks like one at first. Strata Here's the thing about Strata, a beautiful mobile puzzle game created by Graveck: it can be tough to wrap your head around. On the surface it seems simple enough, as all you have to do is swipe to lay fabric-like strips of color. Once you sit down and see even the simplest of puzzles, though, you'll realize how the game creates a nightmare out of order and sequence. Not the bad kind of nightmare, of course. The good kind that makes you want to sit and stare until you figure everything out.
