Down is Up, except when down is down of course. And left can be right, but only when it's not left. Confused? Don't be. Things are rather simple in this gravity puzzle platformer where the levels wrap around you in unexpected ways.
What do cats dream of when they sleep? According to this adorable game originally made in just five days for a competition, it's all about strange and unexpectedly challenging platforming through a surreal Metroidvania-style world.

ALZ is a very peculiar piece of interactive art. Subtle, yet striking, it offers a precious glimpse into the workings of a troubled mind. Even though it can be finished in about two minutes, it is strangely compelling, saddening and memorable.
A bear falls asleep in a fruit crate and finds himself in a dungeon in Slime Prince's castle. The bear teams up with a treasure chest and they go on a slime-destroying, treasure-hunting adventure. If that's not bizarre enough, wait till you see them bouncing off a huge pig roast amidst a pile of broken plates.
In the platformer created by Ludum Dare veteran, Jussi Simpanen, for their 26th competition, the theme of minimalism was embraced in both graphics and gameplay. But don't let that fool you into thinking the story runs the same way. Having committed a horrible act, you must platform your way through dangerous levels to beg forgiveness and prove your worth of it. The fine melding of story and level design will have you invested in the character by the mysterious ending.
A game you can beat in five seconds? That's not a coffee break game, that's a thinking about taking a coffee break game. If you want to actually accomplish something before winning, though, you'll need to get to exploring. Yay!
Don't you just hate it when you're sleeping soundly and a lost soul enters your body and politely requests you help it get back to the afterlife? In Cory Martin's lovely little action RPG Reaching Finality, you're one such lucky person, helping out a spirit by fighting your way through forest and dungeon armed with little more than a pitchfork and a fancy straw hat. Not that the hat does anything other than make you look cool, of course.
Forget a heart. This little robot is looking for something a lot more depressing, but considering the hostile landscape he's stuck in in this short puzzle platformer, it's not really surprising. Simple gameplay and gorgeous style combine to make a familiar but beautiful experience about robots and the saws that tear them to robot pieces. Aw.

You've got to appreciate those evil overlords who go out of their way to spend that extra buck for solid dungeon construction. Now, if only they didn't leave their door keys lying around, their treasure would be safe from the local green-hooded retro hero contingents. Oh well. Dangerous Dungeons, an arcade platformer developed by Adventure Islands for a month-long game jam, has an old-school style and old-school difficulty to match.
