TrickyMonkey Go Happy 3It all started with Monkey Go Happy, which tasked you with cheering up a downcast monkey. Then, Monkey Go Happy 2 made you responsible for the happiness of a monkey pair. Well, guess what brother: Pencil Kids has released a third installment in their Monkey GO Happy! series of silly point-and-click puzzle/arcade hybrids, Monkey Go Happy 3, and this time, three's a crowd! An adorable, adorable monkey crowd.

Players of the previous games in the series should be familiar with the premise: a trio of monkeys is sad, and it's up to you to make them "go happy." Use the mouse to click on objects and locations, solve puzzles, blast stuff etc. Some levels are click-fests in the Hoshi Saga model, others act like mini-escape games, others have a hidden object flavor to them, and still others are action-based. There's quite a bit of variation packed into the game's 16 levels and an expansion pack. Let's monkey see what you can monkey do!

Monkey Go Happy 3 shouldn't pose much of a challenge for adults, but it is clever enough to be enjoyed by gamers of all ages. The variety of levels makes for a coffee-break-long, but consistently fun experience, even if sometimes the win conditions felt a little arbitrary. (But hey, who am I to say what monkeys should find joyful?) Older players should also enjoy some of the casual gaming shout-outs herein: I particularly enjoyed the Atari 2600-styled "One Button Blob". The only thing that would have made me happier is if there was a level featuring the baby monkey going backwards on a pig.

I do wish it were possible to continue to the next level directly after you've solved the previous one, rather than having to return to the menu, though I appreciate the option to solve the levels in any order. Also, there seems to be a slight bug that prevents the game from saving your progress if you leave and return. Since the game is so short, it shouldn't really impact play, but I can imagine it being kind of a pain if you're trying to go for a high score.

Overall Monkey Go Happy 3 keeps the high standards of its predecessors. Most of the levels aren't going to give you much, and even if they do, you'll be sure to find someone to give you a nudge in the comments. Be sure to check out it and its holiday expansion-pack. You'll likely find it more fun than a barrel of... really fun things.

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

Monkey GO Happy! Walkthrough:

Stage 1:

They want the bananas.

Try knocking them down with something.

Check the weeds in front of the large monkey.

Stage 2:

Babushka doll!

What's in the center?

Stage 3:

Monkeys want firewood.

There are three logs to split.

The third is behind the bush.

Stage 4:

Monkeys want escape.

Is that an exit sign i see there?

Let's try underneath the rocks, first.

The group on the far right looks suspicious. (Yes, yes it does. Don't ask how.)

An icepick would do well to pry loose something...

like a broken bit of wall

Hedge clippers, eh? Let's use 'em!

Well, the exit is clear, but we need a key.

What about that 'hedge' at the top left? Try there!

Nothing? You sure?

Use the icepick again.

Stage 5:

Monkeys want to decorate the totem!

The crate needs opened! Bare hands (nor bear hands, er, paws) will work.

Try the crowbar behind the totem.

What color goes where?

Is that a key underneath the brush? Why yes, yes it is! Good eyes!

Follow the key and the monkeys will smile.

Stage 6:

This fancy wrecking ball needs to be controlled somehow.

Brute strength is required.

(try moving the rubble on the left)

First task: on switch.

Second task: choose a floor, knock it down.

It might need a few hits, like, maybe, three.

Third task: repeat Second task until building is down.

Stage 7:

Don't we all hate flies buzzing around our heads?

Where's a swatter when you need one?

Maybe the cupboard, but how to get inside?

Who left all these cups sitting around? Baby monkey?

(Doesn't matter the order, the key is always in the last cup you click.)

Grab the swatter and fulfill that fantasy all of us have, those hot summer days when no swatter is in reach.

Wait until it lands, then attack!

Stage 8:

Sad news! The coin collection is one coin short!

Bet what we need is in the top drawer. It always is, isn't it?

Try the bottom drawer first.

Found the key? What are you waiting for?

Hammer go SMASH on pig.

Coin found. Repeat, the coin has been found.

Stage 9:

Why would you take a baby monkey into such a dreadful place? Let's get out of here.

I bet these hieroglyphics will help!

Match the symbol with the Roman numeral.

From left to right: 1 click, 3 clicks, 2 clicks, 1 click, no clicks!, 3 clicks.

It didn't work!

Try the lever that looks like a button above the big monkey's head.

Stage 10:

It's a shooting range!

What an irresponsible father figure!

Hit 10 bad guys. Be warned, hitting a pretty lady knocks off 10 points.

Don't forget to reload in the top right corner every 5 shots.

Stage 11:

Race car no go. Make race car go zoom zoom.

You need 12 batteries. (What kind of power-sucking track is this?)

Behind the red race car.

Behind baby monkey.

Behind the quivering adult monkey.

To the right of same monkey's left ear.

Between the tracks.

Behind the front doors of the church.

In the attic as well.

The middle house must be a mobile home...(check behind it).

Behind the garage.

In the garage, too.

Is that the last one next to the house?

Nope. One more in their attic.

Stage 12:

The goal is to get the train to the next station (only other station?)

You choose which track the train takes by click the lights. Green means go.

The tunnels make no sense! Why do so many lead to the bottom right corner?

The first tunnel you need is the top right.

The second tunnel you need is above baby monkey's head.

Stage 13:

Is it just me, or do they look cold? Well, too bad! We're not going to get them warm. We do need in the shed, though.

Try the snow drift under the window.

Vandalism is allowed now?

Smash the window with the rock!

A hacksaw! Now which branch to cut...

The big one! Seems we're more than simple vandals.

Stage 14:

Just like you, the monkeys need their video game fix.

How do we get to the game? The floppy disc is locked up!

There seems to be 'something' about that bookshelf.

Try the second shelf, second book from the left.

Before we can insert the game, we need to open the floppy port.

We should probably turn the computer on as well.

Looks like it didn't work!

*Tech Support* "hi, my game won't work." *Did you try clicking the button?* "let me try" "that did it! thanks" *Just doing my job.*

Play the mini-game. Seems familiar...

Stage 15:

Is that a closet? Hmm. Dark. I don't know why, but i feel like we need to get those lights on...

But before we get started, let's see what's to eat

I didn't feel like cheese. Let's set it here on the floor by this hole in the wall.

Thanks mouse! I don't need a hairpin, though. But i bet MacGyver would know what to do with this!

Pick the lock of the electrical box.

So we need a fuse, eh? I always keep my fuses handy.

Check behind the spices.

Maybe now the closet light will work.

Popcorn!

Plug it into the wall socket.

Pour the kernels inside.

It smells tasty, but it's not that exciting to watch.

Take off the top!

Stage 16!:

I will ignore mentioning all the visible bells. If you can't get those, you're only winning this game because of this walkthrough. Shame!

Try moving the Christmas Tree.

Check the drawers under the tree.

As well as behind the window shade.

All of the cupboard doors open freely, even those above the door on the left.

The door, on the other hand, will not.

Check under the rug. It's where *I* stash all *MY* keys.

Is that another door behind the door?

Don't forget the two shiny grey things.

A crowbar and an ornament.

The crowbar works on the floorboards.

What's that grey block?

Before you can use the sledge, pull on the hanging light.

Now smash ceiling!

Hang the ornament above the mantle.

Now pull on it!

We'll need a screwdriver of some kind. Try clicking the button next to the fireplace.

I guess a coin will do.

Use that same coin on the screws hanging the pictures.

Congrats! You've found them all! Hopefully in time.

I'd do a walkthrough for this, but I think I've done my fair share with "Anbot".

I have to say that I do hate the monkeys. They're such sadists. "I'm not going to be happy until you destroy things, ruin others' lives or cause a mess!" Hopefully the expansion includes a 'smack the monkey' game. :D

On a side note, the bonus level seems to be broken. I'm pretty sure I got most if not all of the bells, but the game says I only found 19.

I like the Monkey Go Happy games, but when are we going to get more Bowja? I miss that little guy.

@Paul

are you sure we are playing the same game?

Played through three times to get as good score as possible. Best was 51. Grrr...

Reply

baba yes i'm playing the same game. no matter what i do i can';t do them right. no matter what i click they are green, and it just goes in circles and never ends.

I ran into that same bug, tiakall, when i was putting together the walkthrough for Stage 16. I think it came about because i went back and forth from the menu to the stage. The first time through it was fine; it was only the subsequent time it flipped out (and only near the end).

I was glad to see the bell stage and the holiday lights stage because I loved the finale of Monkey Go Happy 2, but I think the lights stage was a bit overblown. Most of it was clicking stuff that was perfectly visible and almost all the puzzles were in the same sequence instead of separate, which is what seems to work better.

Also, the loose chimney brick? I almost found that by accident but after I saw my cursor change around the chimney, I couldn't find it again because it was so small!

@Paul: You mean Stage 12, that's why everyone's confused.

Some of the tunnels don't go back to the bottom right. Which tunnels those are is completely unlabelled. It's not a very good puzzle at all.

Reply

yeah i said 12. but regardless i guess i won't play this anymore as 12 has no proper way to beat it. Unless someone can show me an easier way. Thanks.

guess no one knows. Anyway,thanks.
