DoraEternal ElementsSo I sat down to play Eternal Elements, the new point-and-click puzzle from a collaboration between Rosiana D, of Tealy and Haunted Mirror Maze fame, and others. And then a few minutes later I had to stand back up. Was there a time warp? Alien attack?!... no, it's just very, very short, though well made. Use your mouse to interact; click on something to pick it up, and click-and-drag objects from your inventory to use them on screen. Whenever your journal starts flashing, make sure to click on and read it for clues, or just a little backstory. Despite the calm music, all is clearly not well in this strange place of Mysterious Cavesville. Who are you? Why are you here? What happened?... and did you do something to deserve it?

As far as developers go, Rosiana and her cadre of creative consorts are fairly prolific, and it seems like every time they release one of their bite-sized titles they get noticeably better at it. Eternal Elements is a perfect example; it's considerably more polished, it has an intriguing backstory (even if constantly opening the journal to read it can get tedious), and is appealingly dreamlike and mysterious. All it's really lacking is length; something to engage and challenge you. At the moment, Eternal Elements is a fun but extremely short little diversion; not even so much a "coffee break" game, but rather an "espresso shot". A little bird tells me we may yet see a bigger project from them down the road. In the meantime, give Eternal Elements a play for a quick, intriguing adventure. Just don't blink or you'll miss it.

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

Here's a walk through. I don't think it's necessary to complete the game (the journal gives lots of hints), but the coins are pretty hard to find.

1. Click play! :D
So you're in some place with a boulder blocking the exit, a dragon with a pretty blue ball, a dead tree, and some coins.
2.

what are you waiting for? Pick up the coins! 5/65

Okay, that wasn't hard! Now, let's read our journal. Looks like the world is in trouble. That sucks! So what next! What's with thta dragon?
3.

click on the blue orb.

Cool cool. Let's read the journal again. Seems like we have a wind ball?
4.

Click the wind orb and drag it to the rock. The boulder magically moves!!

Woah! THat was awesome! Ok, let's move forward!
5. Dark tunnel? There are

some tourch sockets, but we can't light them. Hey, wait, what's that brown thing? A stick? PIck it up! Now you have a tourch!

6. Moving along...we come to a cozy little place. read the journal if you'd like. But let's collect

some coins!! Who doesn't love money? 11/65!

Be careful. There is a sneaky coin hiding on the rocks near the back arrow

Don't forget to pick up the

windmill head near the red dots.

Let's go right, shall we?
7. Ok. The journal is flashing! A hint possibly?

That red thing is a windmill apparently. Take the windmill head and drag-an-drop it on the black circle near the top of the windmill.

8. Why won't it work? We just need a little bit of

wind power! Drag the wind orb to the windmill and get it moving!

9. Now we can grab the

water orb.

10. and don't forget my favorite item!

The coins!18/65 now!

11. Go left and up into that gray circle thing. Let's do the easy stuff first.

Grab some moo-la! 24/65 coins

Your journal gives you a hint if you wanna look at it!

this is a pond! we need some water! Use your water orb on the pond! and now we have a beautiful waterfall!

12. Go back to the windmill spot and keep going right. Looks like an ancient city. sweet. What the heck is that thing? Maybe we should read the journal...

Looks like it's a hungry dragon! Oh joy! Well, the journal says something about a pear tree at the beginning, lets go check it out! But first, grab some coins! 31/65

13. Now that we are back at the beginning, let's look at that tree. It isn't doing so hot. What do we give plants when they are dying?

water! use the water orb on the tree. You have to put it on the branches. Grab the juicy looking apple!

14. Back to the dragon. Give him

the apple.

Now collect

The stone orb.

Let's go back to the middle place.
15.Is it just me or is there something behind

the tree on the left? Click it!

16. This fills up page 9 of the journal! and look at that cute, but shy, lil monster! While your in this little place, collect

the coins. 39/65

17. Let's exit and go click the up arrow this time! Grab the usual things.

Your coins. 47/65

The journal is flashing! Let's read it! What's all this mumbo jumbo about "the first and the last of the rows of spears are all that change?"

see the dragon's teeth? click the one on the far left and the one on the far right. the teeth should look like the two top ones are facing away from each other and the two bottom ones are facing each other. tug the tail like the journal suggests.

And now you have the fire orb!
18. Back to the in-between place. What can we do with fire?

Oh hey! Why don't we go back and light that cave? You can now see some coins! Collect them to have 52/65.

19. Ok. Inbetween place again. How 'bout we go caving? Go into the cave, but it's to dark to see anything well! Good thing we have

a torch! Light it by dragging the fire orb to it. now collect the coins to get 59/65.

20. Ok. Let's keep moving! Go through the hole at the end. Read the journal!

Looks like we can escape now! Collect the rest of the coins to get all 65! Drag each orb to the crystal on the round thing.

Fire= red
Water= blue
Earth= gray
Wind= yellow

THE END! YAY!

I was only able to find 56 of the coins, and my page 9 of the journal was blank. I replayed and couldn't find anything new. Anyone else?

Curious little game, but worth the several minutes it will take to complete the game. After playing through a number of time I've grown to believe that there are only 57 coins. Also, a little FYI, if you do things in the wrong order the game can lock up and you'll have to restart. Be careful!

Happy gaming.

Same here. 56 coins and page 9 blank.

I managed to find 57

there is one one the path that leads to the windmill blade, it's right next to the back arrow. It's really hard to see so you might have missed it.

but page 9 was still blank for me. I also managed to lock up the game by doing things in the wrong order.

Coins:
55 are obvious...
2 more are not easy to see:

Check the dragon with the fire element

Click on all the scales.

Check the walkway in the waterfall area

Click on all the stones.

The other 8...

...are in a secret area

click around the left most tree in the waterfall area

Found 65

Same. 56/no page 9.

Me too. I played the game twice and only had 56 coins. There's a vase that I click on, but doesn't to nothing....

Reply

Page 9:

Investigate to the left of the far left tree on the screen right after the tunnel with the torches.

There are 65 coins total. I have found them all.

Did everything correctly. The game locks up...the gears are not moving in the final cave and doesn't allow me to place the elements in the door to finish the game. Frustrating, easy fix for the authors. I hope they follow through.

BUG REPORT:
If you use the

stone orb on the dried up waterfall/pond, you still get the waterfall, but the machinery that powers the Gate doesn't activate.

Aside from that, short, neat game!

Maybe I'm having a short bus moment, but I've got all of the coins, all of the elements, and all but page 14 entered in the journal...duh...now what?

Reply

Well ... I'm stuck. I reached what would seem to be the logical ending point, the

interior cave, where there is a large wheel with four sections that might correspond to the four elements

, but the cursor doesn't change anywhere in this area, indicating that no action can be taken.

I did notice the four sconces in the passageway, and was able to

light them with the fire globe

but that didn't seem to have any significant result.

Help!

I thought link-dump friday was for short games :(

I made a toothy mistake partway through the game, and didn't have the wiggle room to fix it. If you did the same thing, here's the solution, to point you in the right direction:

If you, like me, wiggled the dragon's teeth before reading the journal hint, and don't know their starting position: all the teeth start in their more-left position. As the journal says, flipping the first and last teeth to their more-right positions and clicking the tail releases the orb.

(Sorry those hinty puns were so repri-mandible.)

Fun game but I wish the developers had more knowledge of Mayan mythology. It says that there were 4 worlds before this one, and each one was destroyed by a different element, water, fire, earth, and...jaguars. Anyways, this world is supposed to be destroyed by wind.

Reply

i hope a Text Walkthrough will be up soon.

Reply

Oh, I think you'll find that lighting all the sconces counts for something

Reply

There's a booby trap in this game!

I used the STONE orb thing to activate the WATERfall, and I could not finish the game!!! Where is the waterfall, you ask? well it's not really a waterfall per se until you activate it....try using the water orb first on hot spots that aren't obviusly for another element

Now I have to start all over. Good thing this game is short, huh?

Ummm... I think I did something wrong. I didn't get the hint that...

you have to move only the first and last teeth. So I randomly switched them and clicked on the tail over and over. The bottom teeth gradually started moving upwards and are now hovering above the dragon's head. O_o

The puzzle still worked though :)

Reply

Okay, went back and played again, and this time the game worked perfectly. I hope the programmers debug the waterfall issue.

I thought it was unfortunate that

the stone orb

doesn't seem to have any function. Also, I couldn't figure out the benefit to using the

fire orb to light the sconces in the passageway.

All that being said, this is my favorite kind of game - a point and click that uses objects (somewhat) logically to solve problems. There are too few of these games available!

How do you get the stone orb?

Reply

I final found all 56 coins. I guess the trick is collect them as you go.

The one hidden spot is when you come to the trees where the water fall is at. Click on the far left and you should come to a seen with two large rocks and a spooky creature. He's no use to the game. You should then be able to collect all 65 coins

The posts above focus on bugs in the game, and these things should certainly be pointed out, but I want to say a few things about something no one else seems to have mentioned yet; the actual *plot* of the game...which I found a little disappointing.

Specifically, I thought the protagonist was quite interesting, with his odd mix of remorse and responsibility filtered through a certain lack of sanity. And I was happy with the author's depiction of him, right up until the end. I thought his story deserved a more complex ending than the action-movie "let's go kill 'em!" than it got; even more, I'm not quite sure he deserved a *happy* ending. Nor did I think the story really built to that happy ending. It felt very tacked-on, to me.

I hope the next offering from the authors is a little more solid in its storyline; this one seemed like it got so close before just barely missing the mark.

My bad all 65 coins!

Reply

To make the coin finding a bit easier, I have listed how many coins can be found in each area. I hope my descriptions of the areas makes sense!

Beginning Area (Wind Dragon) = 5
Sconce Passageway = 5
Large Open Area = 6
Waterfall = 6
Crash Site (Water Dragon) = 7
Stone Dragon = 7
Cliff (Fire Dragon) = 8
Secret Area (see other's hints) = 8
Passageway to Gear Room = 7
Gear Room = 6

Grand Total of 65
