Best of 2009:
Plants vs. ZombiesThe undead hordes are on the march, but your back yard is standing in the way, covered with fresh, fertilized topsoil. In this cheerfully absurd melding of resource management and tower defense, you must defend your delicious brains with an assortment of warrior plants. Plants vs. Zombies is the strangest, most original game from Popcap yet.

I have to say, I'm not surprised P vs. Z took home first with the largest victory margin in any category (35%; I saw one other that was 34% and then nothing else close). Frankly, this is hands-down one of the best games I've ever seen, in all the categories. Was quite glad the voters agreed (just because it's nice to know you weren't alone in your geeky opinion!:). To anyone who hasn't played this yet...prepare to be sucked in for hours on end. The main game is great and replayable over and over, but for me it was the volume of minigames and the amazingly hilarious animation that made this game amazing beyond belief, even the Zen garden parts were awesome. I've replayed numerous times. Finally, that music video once you win...I sort of couldn't believe they'd spent money to make it but it's probably one of the coolest ends to a game EVER. Boy, do I hope someone is working on a sequel to Plants vs. Zombies!!!

I'm surprised Torchlight didn't get a slightly larger push (although obviously at third place it didn't do too badly). I guess it's just a little less casual silly fun than P v Z.
