Hoshi Saga Ringoen

GrinnypTechnically, stars are giant burning balls of hydrogen gas around which solar systems are formed, but for the human race stars have always been something magical. We look up at them in the night sky and see pictures within their formations, see them as direction in the darkness, we even wish upon them. However the greatest use of stars in human imagination may be the finding of them in the Hoshi Saga series of point-and-click puzzle games. Okay, so that may be a bit of hyperbole, but I'm excited because Yoshio Ishii of Nekogames has just come out with 25 new levels of star hunting goodness in Hoshi Saga Ringoen, the sixth in the Hoshi Saga series!

Play the entire Hoshi Saga Series:

Hoshi Saga RingoenAs with previous Hoshi Saga games, the objective in each level is to point, click, or drag (or all three) the beautiful scenery in order to locate the stars. The puzzles themselves are not terribly difficult and are extremely fun to figure out, whether you need logic, fast reflexes, or just really good eyesight. While there are 25 different scenarios to solve, only 16 of them can be accessed immediately. You will need to solve the first four levels in each row across to access the fifth level in that row, and you will need to solve the first four puzzles in each column down to access the fifth as well. Still not nearly as difficult as the first games in the series, the puzzles in Hoshi Saga Ringoen will still fill you with delight as you make your way through the game. Whether you are new to the series or a veteran this is a fantastic way to spend mother's day reaching for the stars. You know, after you at least call your mom.

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

Walkthrough:

  1. Click anywhere, then place the shapes in the dotted outline in the following order: Brown triangle, diamond, blue triangle, purple (left) triangle, pink (right) triangle.

  2. Plug in the lamp and pull the cord.

  3. Drag the lowest top bar to the right, over the rightmost part of the star, and let go.

  4. Drag the brown ball to the right. Get the last ball and drag it all the way to the left, then arrange the other two over it to form the star.

  5. Click like crazy until the mountain forms the bottom of the star.

  6. When the five planes all come from the bottom and spread out, click and hold as they form the star. I found it was helpful to watch the one that breaks to the top right and hold as soon as he goes horizontal left.

  7. Click and hold anywhere the cursor turns to a hand.

  8. Click play, then click again when the clock strikes 15. You'll have to count in your head (or use a stopwatch) to get it right, as the star disappears once you pass 7.

  9. Tilt the balance to one side and then click/hold the center piece to stop it; tilt it the other way and click/hold the piece in the front to hold that one.

  10. Click the sky, tulips, apples, and rainbow, in that order.

  11. Click the following pegs, in this order (left to right is 1-4, top to bottom is A-E): A3, A2, B2, C3, D2, B3, C2, D3.

  12. Follow the star! Make sure you mess up the first 2 times. ;-)

  13. Make an equation that equals 5, like 4+1.

  14. Get the little guy to the bottom of the same rope he starts on by clicking and breaking the horizontal ropes. If you start on the leftmost rope, click any rope that doesn't interfere, like the middle left rope. If you start center left, click the middle left rope. Center right, the bottom right rope. Far right, the top right rope.

  15. Click the four screws to remove the panel. You'll notice that the bottom right dial goes to 4, one for each click. Under the panel, move your mouse around to reveal how many clicks you need on each of the corresponding levels. If you've been following this walkthrough, you're good.

  16. Click and hold any ball and move it around to clear the space over the star. I found it helpful to go nuts until you're ball is big enough to take up the whole screen, then release it off to the side.

  17. Drag the star down to paint it pink.

  18. Click and hold the smallest square, and drag it around until you've correctly placed all the squares. Start with positioning the largest one and work your way in.

  19. Just click and hold the blue circle.

  20. Drag the glowing diamond and let it go to toss it at another glowing diamond. Keep in mind the shape you're going for. I found it easiest to aim at one where you can pull and launch as hard as you can. I went left, right, top, bottom, then back to start.

  21. Click the kanji (I think it's kanji) in the order it appears: left, top, middle & bottom of the box, then diagonal, top horizontal, vertical, middle & bottom horizontal.

  22. Move your dot and try and bounce the yellow ball 5 times without hitting the purple ones.

  23. Click and drop to the bottom left area to expose the star.

  24. From the outside in, start by moving the 4th circle so it matches the 2nd. Then move the 3rd so it matches the 1st. Now move the 2nd so both the 4th and 2nd match the center, and finally the 1st so both the 1st and 3rd match the rest.

  25. Click where one of the girls are pointing when your cursor turns into a hand.

Hoshi Saga Ringoen Walkthrough

General Information

  • The cursor changes to a hand indicating clickable areas.

  • Some areas require simple clicking, some clicking and dragging of items.

  • Some solutions are logic based, some are reflex based.

  • The solutions to some levels are tied to the solutions of other levels.

  • You cannot access certain levels until you have completed all of the levels in a row or column.

  • Good luck finding the stars!

Level 51

  • Click anyplace in the scene and wait for the animation to end.

  • When it ends you should have five pieces, four triangular and one rhombus.

  • Note the dotted outline in the background. Click on a triangular piece that will fit in that area (they will rotate when clicked) and drag it there.

  • Continue until the dotted areas are filled in.

  • Place the last triangular piece on top to complete the star.

  • Screenshot.

Level 52

  • This level is simple. Click on the lamp plug to plug it into the socket, then click on the pull cord to turn on the lamp.

  • Screenshot.

Level 53

  • When you click on the top layers they will come down and move the bottom layers according to their size.

  • You want to click and drag the top layers to the right until the areas indicated in the screenshot below are lined up, then release the mouse button.

  • If you've hit the correct spot, the star will form.

  • Screenshot.

Level 54

  • Click and drag the tan ball to the far right.

  • Click and drag the first ball slightly to the left, revealing the second green ball.

  • Click and drag the second green ball further to the left, revealing the third green ball.

  • Click and drag the third green ball further to the left, then adjust the green balls until the star is lined up.

  • Screenshot.

Level 55

  • Note: You have to solve levels 51 - 54 to access level 55.

  • Rapidly click with your mouse's left button. The mountain will start rising in the sky.

  • Keep rapidly clicking until the rest of the star comes into view. When you stop clicking, the mountain will drop into place to form the star.

  • Screenshot.

Level 56

  • The small airplanes will make a pass with all five planes going downwards. Wait.

  • Then two planes will fly through around each other. Wait and do nothing.

  • Then a single plane will come through on a diagonal. Still wait.

  • On the fourth pass all five planes will come up from the bottom. Wait until they reach the top and turn around, then click and hold the left mouse button.

  • If your timing is right the contrails will form the shape of a star.

  • Screenshot.

Level 57

  • In the large rotating geometric form you will notice that some areas are brighter than others.

  • Move the cursor over one of the areas and click and hold the mouse button.

  • Once you grab the proper area, the rest of the form will still rotate around and form the star.

  • Screenshot.

Level 58

  • Click on the triangular button in the center of the numbers and notice that a star is beginning to form.

  • Keep track of the count between numbers (the pace at which the star forms).

  • Around 5 the star will fade and a square button will appear.

  • To form the star you need to click on the square button at the time when the star will have made it all the way around to 15.

  • It might take a few tries to get the timing correct.

  • Screenshot.

Level 59

  • The star is in three pieces balancing on the beam, although only one pieces is visible in the beginning.

  • Click and drag either the right or left side of the beam down and all three pieces will drop together on that side.

  • Then slowly drag the opposite beam up to gently bring the three pieces to the center. If they separate you will have to drop them again to get them together.

  • Screenshot.

Level 60

  • Note: You have to solve levels 56 - 59 to access level 60.

  • Click on the empty sky (not the rainbow) and the sky will color in.

  • Now click on a tulip and the flowers and the grass will gain color.

  • Now click on one of the apples on the trees and they will fill in.

  • Click on the rainbow last.

  • A star will fall from the tree on the right.

  • Screenshot.

Level 61

  • The star is at the top, trapped by the white pegs.

  • Click on the white pegs one at a time to allow the star to drop.

  • You can take any number of moves to get the star to the bottom, but you'll want to do it in 8 moves, trust me.

  • To do so start the star dropping on the right side of the screen.

  • Screenshot.

Level 62

  • This is a simple game of three-card Monty, or cups and balls.

  • The game will show you which cup the star is under then shuffle them.

  • Watch closely, and when the shuffling is done click on the correct cup to reveal the star.

  • Screenshot.

Level 63

  • This is a simple math problem. Notice that the star over the plus sign has 12 points (6 + 6 = 12).

  • Use the triangles at the top and bottom to change the numbers and/or the math sign (plus or minus) to make an equation that equals 5.

  • That can be 1 + 4, 2 + 3, 6 - 1, etc.

  • Screenshot.

Level 64

  • This is one of those funky ladder games.

  • Watch the little guy closely, you don't want him to cross the middle of the ladder.

  • Click on the middle slanted rung of the ladder before he gets there, forcing him to stay to the right of the game.

  • When he reaches the end he will drop the top of the star on the rest of it.

  • Note: If you miss the first time, the star will change position, so exit and go back in to start from the beginning.

  • Screenshot.

Level 65

  • Note: You must solve levels 61 through 64 to access level 65.

  • When you first see level 65 one or more of the lights on the panel may be already lit.

  • Click on each of the screws to remove them and the panel will lift away.

  • Note that next to each light is a roman numeral and a number dial.

  • Hover your cursor around each dial and numbers and arrows will appear near them.

  • The roman numerals are 61 through 65 and stand for levels 61 through 65.

  • The numbers on the board indicate how many clicks (or moves) you need to have won the level with.

  • Go back to any level whose indicator is not green and try to solve with that number of clicks.

  • Level 61 needs to be solved with 8 clicks, level 62 with 3 clicks, level 63 with 3 clicks, level 64 with 1 click, and level 65 with 4 clicks.

  • For level 61 start on the right side and you will be able to get the star down with only 8 clicks.

  • For level 62 just miss on the first two tries and get it correct on the third.

  • For level 63 you need to use the left up arrow to move the number to 1, then the right down arrow twice to move it to 4 (3 clicks).

  • For level 64 you need to cut the correct ladder segment on the first try.

  • For level 65 you need to use 4 clicks to remove the four screws.

  • If all five lights are lit when you remove the panel the star will be there.

  • Screenshot.

Level 66

  • The star is buried under these balls, you need to find a way to remove them all at once.

  • Click and hold one ball. As you hold the mouse button it will grow, pushing the other balls out of the way.

  • Release the ball, then quickly click and drag it away from the star before the others return.

  • Screenshot.

Level 67

  • The pink area below is paint.

  • Click the star-shaped shadow above down into the paint, then release.

  • Screenshot.

Level 68

  • Move the boxes into the positions shown in the screenshot below.

  • Once they are in place, click on the smallest box and pull straight up to form the star.

  • Screenshot.

Level 69

  • Click and hold on the blue dot in the center. After you hold for a while the star will be extruded on the right.

  • Screenshot.

Level 70

  • Note: You must solve levels 66 through 69 to access level 70.

  • Grab the large diamond in the upper right and drag it towards the diamond in the upper left, stretching just past the diamond so that the first dot of the stretched line covers the smaller diamond.

  • Release the diamond and it will hit the smaller one, creating a trail.

  • The large diamond is now in the upper left. Stretch it to the diamond in the lower right, then from there to the top, then to the lower left, and last to the upper right diamond.

  • The trails left behind will form the star.

  • Screenshot.

Level 71

  • Note: You will not be able to access level 71 unless you solve levels 51, 56, 61, and 66.

  • Watch closely as the character appears. This is the kanji for star in Japanese.

  • Click on the lines in the Kanji in the order that they appeared and they will rearrange to form a star.

  • Screenshot.

Level 72

  • Note: You will not be able to access level 72 unless you solve levels 52, 57, 62, and 67.

  • This is an avoider puzzle. You control the small yellow dot at the bottom of the screen.

  • Do not, under any circumstances, hit any of the purple octagons coming down the screen.

  • You need to bounce the large yellow ball off of your small dot five times. Each time it hits it grows another point. At 5 points you'll have the star.

  • If you hit a purple octagon your dot will turn purple and you'll have to wait a few seconds for it to turn yellow again.

  • Screenshot.

Level 73

  • Note: You will not be able to access level 73 unless you solve levels 53, 58, 63, and 68.

  • This is one level where your cursor will not change to indicate clickable areas.

  • Click and drag your cursor and you will notice that it "clears" an area behind your cursor.

  • Click and drag around the yellow spot in the lower right corner and you will find the star.

  • Screenshot.

Level 74

  • Note: You will not be able to access level 74 unless you solve levels 54, 59, 64, and 69.

  • Special thanks to Night Stryke for this elegant solution.

  • This is a rotating ring puzzle, and each ring controls another ring.

  • Count the rings from the middle outwards, so the middle is one and the outer ring is five.

  • Don't touch the center ring.

  • Click on the second ring (closest to the center) and drag it around until the colors and lines line up with the fourth ring.

  • Screenshot.

  • Click on the third ring and line it up with the colors and lines of the fifth ring (don't worry about what else moves).

  • Screenshot.

  • Now grab the fourth ring and rotate it. It will move the second ring as well. Rotate, using the fourth ring, until rings 2 and 4 line up with the center ring.

  • Screenshot.

  • Now grab the fifth ring (outer ring) and rotate it until it and the third ring (which will rotate with it) line up with the rest.

  • Screenshot.

Level 75

  • Note: You will not be able to access level 75 until you solve levels 71 through 74, or levels 55, 60, 65, and 70.

  • Keep your cursor in the center of the scene.

  • Watch where the girls point and move your cursor to intercept a path that their fingers would produce.

  • When light shoots from their fingers, backtrack the path towards the girl and watch to see if your cursor changes to a hand.

  • When it does, click fast and you will get stars.

  • Screenshot.

Small issue: in the first paragraph, this game is entitled the sixth in the series, yet I only see five Hoshis.

Typo?

stuck on 65!

Reply
DinoSaul May 8, 2011 2:13 PM

For level 65:

You get scored on each level in that row. For some reason (I don't know why, I got it through trial and error) you have to get a score of 8 on level 61, 3 on level 62, 3 on level 63, 1 on level 64 and 4 on level 65.

Reply

Also stuck on 65. Got no clue what I'm supposed to do.

Got the lower right to read "4", which is apparently what it's supposed to have, by removing the screws, but can't figure out what else to do.

Any ideas?

Stuck on Level 56

I can see what to do with the flying arrows but can't seem to get the star

I hold my cursor down and can see the shapes for each set of arrow and even see the one with the star but can't make it lock on the star

Reply

I am really confused on the first level (51). I did all the other ones I can reach, but that one...

Reply

Has anyone completed 74? I've been stuck on it for close to an hour...

Reply
nerdypants May 8, 2011 3:01 PM

I'm stuck on 74, too. If anyone has any hints I'd be really grateful.

Reply

For the 75:

The girls are pointing at something.

74 will give some trouble, as it's all a matter of getting the discs to rotate just right.

72 is a bit of a mouse avoider/collider.

70:

Stretch the object past where it should go.

Everything else, with the obvious exception of 65 should be easy enough to figure out.

The trick to #74:

Don't touch the middle. Get the second ring lined up with the fourth ring, and the third ring lined up with the fifth ring; rotate the fourth ring until it and the second ring are lined up with the middle, then rotate the fifth ring until it and the third ring are lined up with the rest.

I didn't realize that the lines appeared in the order you're supposed to click them. I was floundering around trying to remember the stroke order for writing kanji. Which did eventually lead me to the correct solution, but still. I really need to stop overthinking these things.

Yeah to be honest, level 65 killed this for me. That puzzle is just stupid and breaks what's nice about Hoshis saga: a bunch of independent puzzles where I can solve everyone without caring about the other (disregarding the unlocking). No cookie for this one.

[Yes, we were linking to a different mirror site due to all the traffic these games generate when a new installment comes out. I don't know whey that mirror site's level numbers were off. Anyways, I've switched all the links back to Nekogames, so the level numbers should all be correct now. -Jay]
