DoraAlice is Dead: Episode 3The finale to Mike Morin's popular, twisted point-and-click take on the old fairytale is here. Alice is Dead: Episode 3 continues after the events of the second game and finds you (that is, the White Rabbit) closer than ever to finding out what happened to your memory, and why a certain blonde moppet tried to do you in. Dig a little deeper into the underbelly of Wonderland, and you could find all the answers you're looking for... or someone could find you first.

Played like any point-and-click game, you use your mouse to interact. There's no changing cursor, unfortunately, so you might have to do a fair bit of clicking around if you find yourself stuck. Hearts signify navigation, and clicking on one when you see it will let you move to a new area. To use the items in your inventory, just click on it at the bottom of the screen, and then click where you want to use it. Operating on "Wonderland logic", the game can be a bit hard to figure out at times. There isn't a whole lot of direction given, and it can frequently feel like you stumble on success by accident; when it seems like you have nowhere else to go, all you can really do is retrace your steps and hope you've triggered something elsewhere. Fans of the series will also be glad to see that its signature sense of dark humour is still intact, along with its fantastic production values.

What you might not be so happy to find out is that the ending is not only abrupt, it raises more questions than it answers, and feels rushed to boot. It's not putting a period at the end of the story, it's taking a cleaver to it, and, combined with how short the whole thing is, what's left is potentially unsatisfying after all the plot elements introduced in this episode alone. Undoubtedly creator Mike Morin and his creative team were under pressure from fans to produce, but you might have preferred to wait another year (or longer) if it meant a more succinct resolution.

Play all 3 games in the Alice is Dead series:

It's sad to see the end of one of the most imaginative and quirky series, especially since it feels like there's so much more potential in the world and story it crafted. Will we ever see this Wonderland again? Maybe. I'd offer that there's a possibility we might see another episode down the road based on all the loose ends. Regardless, Alice is Dead is still definitely worth a play, and we can hope... and sulk. Mostly the sulking.

Walkthrough:

1.

After the opening scene, you are left standing on the outskirts of town with a bell and a cell phone (it is located next to the mute button).
If you want, you can look at the stones, but there's nothing else to see. Head into town.

2.

Your phone should be ringing! Read your text message and then click around to get the brick and the shiny coin.

Can't find the brick?

It is the small object beneath the orange fish graffiti.

Can't find the shiny coin?

It is in the gutter, on the side of the sidewalk.

3.

Click on the door with all the locks. Time to use your inventory!
Still don't know what to do?

Use the brick on the keypad to break it and click on the lock to go in.

4.

Welcome back to your home! Click on the journal beside the chair and get reading.
Now what?

Click on the recorder besides the potted plant and listen to the messages by clicking on Play.
Note the phone numbers on the Post-it.

Now what?

Call each number on the Post-it note on your cellphone after listening to the messages. Always note the display on top of the phone screen, "Connected to..."

How do I use the phone?

Simply dial in the numbers and press the green button.

5.

Go back to the screen showing your living room.
New Message! Read it then exit your house.
You are now able to go forward deeper into the city.

6.

Hello. You are facing a dumpster.
There's nothing in it for now, but if you don't believe me you can always click on it anyway. There is something else in this scene...
Can't find it?

Seriously?

It's right there! On the ground! In front of the green door.

7.

Turn Left and talk to Rulio. He won't bite.

Now what?

Ask for mushrooms. You know you want them.

Where's the Shiny?!

If you've been following this walkthrough then you're in luck! It's already in your inventory. Click on the shiny coin and give it to him.
If you don't already have the Shiny coin and you're too lazy to look for it, then

it's where you found the brick, in the gutter on the side of the sidewalk.

8.

Go right twice. You are now facing a huge dude with a bowtie and a pet hat. You are now faced with a very important decision.

Do you want to

Spike their drink with the MUSHROOM?

OR

Do you want to

Bash them in the face with your PIPE?

Whichever one you choose makes no difference in the outcome of the game.

Don't have the PIPE but want it? See number 6.

9.

Enter the club. Oh wait-- there's a metal detector!

HELP HELP HELP!

Unfortunately, you must now part with the pipe. If you chose to use it, thank it and say your last tearful goodbyes. Then proceed to chuck it into the DUMPSTER.

NOW you may enter the club.

10.

New message! Read it and get scared.
Now take the time to appreciate that beautiful singing. Did you know it was made exclusively for this game?

Sorry-- go LEFT.
The limes are there for show, but there's something else... and it's not the slot machine.

WHAT IS IT?

It's the thermostat, of course.

Well, duhhh, but what do I DO with it?

Turn it up to 90 degrees.

11.

Did you finally figure out that the slot machine was just playing with you?
Har har har.

Now go right twice. You should be in a bathroom.

If you want to inspect all of the stalls and dial all the numbers for fun, go ahead---
but there's only ONE important number here to call and that is the one on the mirror.

WHAT? THERE'S NO NUMBER ON THE MIRROR!

Did you turn the thermostat up to 90 degrees?

12.

Wow! Access granted!...

To what?

Did you read the "Connected to..." display on your phone when you called?

NO, I DIDN'T AND I'M NOT GOING TO CALL AGAIN.

Geez. Just go back to where the thermostat is, will you?

13.

You should be back in the room with the thermostat and the slot machine. You will now notice a black hole (or black square) under the machine. Click on it.

What do I do now?

Click on the last square to change the ratio to "1 in 1"---
Your odds of winning is now 100%! Hooray for cheating!

Play the slots. You win!

Don't worry if nothing comes out of the machine and magically ends up into your inventory. Nothing is supposed to come out.

14.

Go back to the bathroom.

Yes, the bathroom.
Click on the stalls and go in through the third one with the cute picture of a dinosaur.

15.

Ooooh, secret lab! Go RIGHT first and click on the TUBeVATOR.

Oooh! New message. Read it and go LEFT twice.

16.

New Message! Read it and weep.

You must now find the three tapes. They are not all in the lab, so you must search throughout the city.

*You can't find the second tape until you find the first. Similarly, you can't find the third until you find the second.

*BUT I DON'T WANT TO LOOK FOR THE TAPES!*

The first tape:

The first is a tricky one. It changes every game. Try looking for it in the club, where it likes to dwell.

Still can't find it?

Try checking all the tables: the one in the lab, the ones in the main room of the club, the one just outside the club, and the countertop of the kitchen (where the slot machine is). It might also be under the door of the first stall in the bathroom.
If it isn't in any one of these places, then you're out of luck.

The second tape:

It's in the dumpster with your good buddy, the PIPE.

The third tape:

Try your other good buddy, Rulio.

17.

Go back to the Secret Lab and turn LEFT. Play the tapes one by one by putting them into the VCR of the TVhead.

*The tapes are not over until the entire screen dims.

18.

Exit the lab and go back to the bathroom of the club. Read your new text message somberly. There should be something around here...

Can't find it or don't want to?

Click under the sink.

This can't be good...

19.

Go back once again to the Secret Lab and turn RIGHT.

Are you ready?

Click on the TUBeVATOR.

20.

HEY, HEY, HEY! Don't think it's over yet!

Wait for the credits to finish to see the REAL ending.

Thanks for sticking with me. Hope you had fun!

Thanks for the write up again Dora. I've enjoyed following the response to the series on here a lot because from reading comments people have been able to put together a lot more of the information than some of the other sites.

I'm sorry you were dissatisfied with the ending. It was abrupt, but we kind of wanted it that way. It was our intention that it reflected the nature of the rabbit and his profession. I've seen this complaint about loose ends elsewhere as well. While I'm not claiming we have answers for everything, I think a lot of questions players still have ARE answerable within the context of the game.

Still, I plan on releasing some sort of Q&A for people once the game has made its rounds.

In regards to the back tracking, it was an effort to make the world more organic rather than just cutting off access to each area after it was completed. I'm not saying it was successful in this, only that that was my intentions.

If players have questions I'll be happy to try and answer some here as well.

With regards,

Mike Morin

Thanks again for another write up Dora. I've enjoyed the comments on Jayisgames since the game first came out. It seems like the players here were able to find a lot of the hidden things and a general understanding of the plot better than most other sites on average. I'm sorry you're dissatisfied with the ending. I've seen the loose ends complaint elsewhere as well. While I can't claim we have answers for every thing, I do think a lot of the questions are answerable if information from all 3 episodes is used. I wish people would post specific questions they still have, it would make clarification a lot easier.

In fact, if anyone has particular questions I'll try my best to answer some of them here. Just use spoiler tags for other people's sake obviously :)

I just wanted to say that I absolutely loved the song in the club and I'm glad you made it available on newgrounds.

Wow... the ending indeed conjures a mix of emotions, but the journey itself... to me, Alice in Wonderlandis one of the stories that must have been with me all my life, having seen the movie at a young age and having bought the book several years ago. But this version is simply incredible; the setting and atmosphere are as absurd as the original, but in a much darker and more twisted way; the storyline has been expertly set up, and contains oodles of references to the real story (and other pieces of Carroll's work); the characters have been taken to a new level in order to fit into the altered background - especially the Hatter, both as an element in the story and as a voice, is sickeningly amazing...

In short: this is brilliant in its insanity. A group of friends and me regularly have RPG sessions (the pen-and-paper-use-your-imagination kind), and I daresay trying this on for a background could give something like Vampire: the Masquerade a run for its money.

Give us more!

Hey there Dora. Thanks we all really appreciate it.

I don't mind criticism, it helps me to make things better in the future (hopefully).

The ending is a twist, in regards to who

who kills the Queen

that was not hinted towards in the other

episodes.

Mary Ann was also a new character. We tried giving her backstory with the journal, but perhaps it wasn't ample.

Things I do felt should be resolved though are

the Cheshire cat. I know some people believed that it was the Jabberwocky, but I will confirm it was the Cheshire cat. In 2 you can learn about what the goal of Oystercloud was, and you get a first glimpse of the Cheshire cat. In 3, you discover Burr's lab and if you listen to the testing tapes, they're documentations of tests for Oystercloud. He was testing it on cats. Presumably, something happened to one of the cats and his daughter. This IS where I will leave ambiguity. The Cheshire cat as you see it is a result of a botched teleportation-type experiment that possibly merged one of the test cats with his daughter. The question is who is in control of the cat? The daughter, or the cat? The text messages from Unknown imply who... but again, it's a little interpretive. Both would have reason for wanting revenge.

At the end, the Queen seemed to have knew the player was coming. Maybe it was that damn bell. The rabbit knew there was a metal detector, but didn't think of disposing the bell unfortunately.

Reply

Hey Mike,

I just want to say, that was a great game. I loved the series. Only thing I didn't really understand was this.

In the twist ending, a girl kills the queen. You see this girl crawl out of a hole, and put her blonde wig on a corpse. Does this mean that it was Alice or this new character, Mary Ann?

Perhaps I'm just braindead today, but I can't even seem to get started in this game. I've got

Here's a problem that I had with Alice 3.

Ending spoiler: The rabbit is a hired killer. He's in a seedy nightclub (with a freakin *seductress* of a singer - what a set of pipes!) There's a lab in the bathroom. Someone knows he's there *and is close enough* that he can change the writing on the bathroom wall, and the rabbit *is given a gun, warned that Frank has one too, and gets into the elevator (making him an easy target. The door open and he doesn't even have the gun drawn.

Aside3 from that minor quibble it's a tight game (and loved loved loved the song) 18.4/5

Funny, I just played through one and two about a week ago. Upon coming home from school and seeing that three had been released, I sat in shock for a few moments and promptly played through.

The ending really did leave me with mixed emotions. I did feel like, because so many new elements were introduced in episode three, and with

the cheshire cat in episode two,

it would've calmed my mind to have them built upon in a way that it wasn't ALL left to imagination. Nonetheless, the whole series was utterly chilling and perhaps one of my favorite point-and-click series of all time. I think that all of the JIG community would love seeing more from you, Mike~ :3 It would be really cool if you or fans made their own versions in games or animations about how

the experiment went wrong with Burr and what happened to his daughter.

Great job with the series. It was fantastic.

Reply

What I want to know is the purpose of the bell.

Another thing is

Why was Dr. Burr experimenting with cats as the test subjects for Oystercloud? I know that

Oystercloud was meant to merge Wonderland with the Above World,

but why use cats? Also,

why did they want to merge the above world with Wonderland in the first place?

Reply

Hi Wolfgang,

The Queen wanted to expand his "territory", and what better way than access to a whole other world? And the tests were being done on cats because cats are animals. It was basically like animal testing, how cosmetic companies and some scientists uses chimpanzees. However, since there was a Cheshire Cat, and not a Cheshire Chimp, we went the cat route :P

Reply

Maybe there will be a second series called

Alice is Not Dead. Maybe it will star Alice.

Reply

Great work. The ending was a little bit shocking but I love the game anyways.

Thanks for letting people download the nightclub song :DDD

Also I notice that if you call

Boris

You get a message saying

Alive Slice (I think it is what it says) which is an anagram for

Alice lives :3

Reply

I think there should be a "twisted fairytale" category. I forget which "spot the difference" twisted tale I first played, but afterwards I went looking on JIG and couldn't find any.
:(
So I've been discovering them as the new chapters come out, like the three part Butterfly one.

Reply

And I called

Boris. Nothing, just a trombone and cymbals.

The rabbit says, "This song, what is going on?"

Reply

Mike: Well, that makes sense. But what about the bell?

Reply

One observation that hasn't been made yet:
Call

the number on the left stall door, the "for gud tiem...I did her...I did him" number.
You get

an exhausted-sounding guy who says, "Stop calling me..." and the rabbit muses, "That did not sound like a her."

Aww.

Even reading the journal made me sad. Then hearing the LITTLE girl's voice...
:(
As if it wasn't bad enough mutating cats...

What was up with the third videotape? Is there something there if you go past the commercials?

I'm confused. I didn't see any blood around the TV, which was presumably smashed on the prof's head. Or did he have a TV for a head?

And that is one UGLY she-male

Reply

Were we supposed to do anything with the

briefcase combination that we found in the diary?

Reply

I don't get it, what do I do after I put the penny in the red wire? The keypad doesn't do anything.

Reply

I would comment on how unbelievably trippy this whole series has been...but this -is- Wonderland we're talking about. "Trippy" is the norm for places born of Carroll's mind. Still, quite enjoyable all around, except maybe for the ending.

Poor rabbit...

On a personal note, I think I could listen to that club singer all day. Her voice is just...wooo...

Reply

well, this was a disappointment for me. the art and atmosphere were great as always, but the ending I hated. I understand what the creators were going for but it still felt lacking. the first time I finished the game I said, well, now its time to go back and get the "good" ending, but that was it. no matter how I look at it, it still feels like I failed at the game.

Reply

I really do love this series, but I do have to agree that it leaves one with more questions than answers. I'm very sad to see it end, I'd like to see a sequel series, because it was all so very much fun.

Reply

I don't feel excited with the ending too, but after reading what Mike says, I feel that the game have some depth that I just don't feel pushed to think/question about them.

Proly should have:

Show more chesire cat horror. And player able to pieces that Ann is Alice before watching the ending.

What's with the fish anyway?

who was the face in the fish ad, the tuna in the journal, the whole raining fish thing (which was somehow the oystercloud's fault?)

I feel like, instead of ending it, this could easily have been a series of four or even five games, rather than a trilogy.

It seemed like the rabbit being given all this preparation for facing the queen was a bit of an unnecessary red herring when the queen is going to just shoot him in the head. On the other hand, I think that's a really cool outcome. What I would have rather seen is the game putting us inside Alice's head after the Rabbit is shot. Maybe even flashing back to right after her "death" and starting the second half there. That's exactly the sort of time-bending perspective shift I'd expect from a Noir.

The plotting here, in and of itself, is good. It's the method of execution I'm critiquing here, really.

Regardless, that song was awesome. And as always, this episode oozed shady personality. Bravo

maybe a better walkthrough is in order. i don't know.

Reply

First of all: I love this game. The whole series. I've probably played them over 10 times each.

Secondly: Some odd observations/questions:

Who can get graffiti in a

secret lab?

Stall 1

By far the most interesting stall graffiti-wise, it not only shares the hat drawing,

On the ducks and on the message "Take a chance Rabbit!". Maybe that's just how the artist draws hats, though he clearly demonstrates he can draw differently on stall #3.

and some rather hilarious phone numbers,

The stranger and the March Hare. (Ha!)

but it also has the strange, reoccurring "bloody eye" message appearing over the stall and in the stall itself. My question:

Is this referring to the one red eye of the Cheshire Cat?

Has anyone found out about the stones in the first scene? Do they even have a purpose?

The TUBeLIFT: Was I imagining things, or was it spelled differently in different scenes? TUBeLIFT vs. TUBOLIFT.

Random, but was Ann the singer?

Does turning down the thermostat ever accomplish anything?

I don't think that Sorrus ever opens, correct?

Differences
I liked the way you could accomplish different tasks using different methods. Now to see if there's a way to get the secret ending using my remaining objects. It seems to me

That you must be able to get rid of the bell, or that accomplishment would mean nothing.

The Third Tape

Must have something to do with the secret ending, right? The Cat wanted us to find three tapes. The first two explained everything, so why the third? (How did Rulio get it, anyway?) They share the insignia and the word 'daddy'. I can't help but think that "whiteness is a security" and the word "lovingly" might be a clue. And what about the whole "crayon time" part? Was it playing the bone song in the background during that part? It sounded like the same song, but not the same words... Such an odd lead. So many questions.

And then of course:

Who killed Dr. Burr? I was going to rule out the girl/cat, because she said that she misses him and mentions a "they" when she talks of his death. But who else would want him dead? The Queen? The lack of other suspects makes me think that maybe the girl isn't always in control. She has to be at least some of the time, because (I assume) she sent the messages. But maybe there are times when the cat is in control. Or maybe it was in control in the beginning. Of course, that would still question her choice of the word "them", but I'm not ruling it out. After all, we don't know that much about the experiments, and the Cheshire Cat doesn't look like it is composed of just a girl and a cat...

I can't seem to get into the hideout in the beginning either. I used a penny on the pad and it said it was opened, and try it again on the wire, but the lock still says "i need to deal with the pad" and the pad says "it's open" or "its always the red wire"

I can't seem to figure out what to click and i've tried all I can think of. :/

Reply

great game, the song was kindda catchy too

Reply

@cinder calhoun

Try the padlock? Or deselect the penny first, then try the padlock?

The tapes are rather tricky to find, because they don't appear until after certain events. I'm still not entirely sure what events trigger their appearance, but they're found one indoors, one outdoors, and the last you have to ask for.

In the room with the singer, the tape is on a table

In the dumpster outdoors

From the 'shroom dealer

In the game I had to deposit an item into the dumpster to pass the metal detector.

metal pipe, found near some door outside

I wonder if it has any use...

Reply

Hm, I went to play the game again, and now I can't seem to get the tapes to spawn. I

Bashed open the lock with a brick and piped the tweedles, and then got a mushroom.

I've been looking in every room and all the listed places, and can't seem to find any of them. I'm wondering if I glitched it somehow?

Interesting updating of the Alice story for our times...
For those confused about Mary Ann: in the original Carroll's story - after the pool of tears incident - the White Rabbit mistakes Alice for Mary Ann (possibly his maid) and tells her to run to his house to get his gloves and fan. (Hopefully) Is the significance of the bell the signal there might be a new series based on the Hunting of the Snark?!!

Reply

I loved these games a lot, and I thought there was a good balance between answering questions, and leaving some up to the imagination. I think I would be equally pleased if there was more to the series, as I would if this was the end of it (though I certainly hope we'll see more games from you!) However, I do wonder about some things that maybe someone can clarify for me, or help me work out...?

The bell:

Does it do anything at all? Has it ever done anything at all?

Phone Numbers:

The March Hare: the only reference I found to bells at all, through the whole series, was this fellow's phone number. Anyone else notice that his number is under the phrase "get stuck"? When you call him, he speaks of a Bell Emporium or some such nonsense. Is this supposed to reference a use for the bell? Is there any other purpose to calling this number?

Boris: is he a reference to anything? It's been quite some time since I read the books; is that just any old name? Why would this "Boris" know about Alice being alive, as evidenced by his text message?

Tapes:

The first two tapes clearly tell what happened to the Cheshire Cat/Burr's daughter, so it makes sense that it/she would want you to see those two to progress. However, the third video seems completely random. I mean, it seems like it certainly hints to something to be done, or noticed, or something, but it doesn't make sense to me that the Cat would need you to see it. The Cat wants you to know what happened; why show you this commercial?

Ending?:

Someone in the comments mentioned a secret ending being present? Other than loose ends and possible clues to other puzzles, how do we know there is one? I am just curious where I may have missed the "there is a secret ending" affirmation. If this exists, has anyone found it?

All in all, I thought this was a magnificent series. The fact that I am left with questions doesn't discourage me at all, in a "you didn't wrap stuff up" sort of way. It honestly just makes me hope there's more to it, that we haven't been able to poke out of it yet. The parts that aren't blatantly stated have left me thinking a lot about the game and story, which I would absolutely declare as a victory for the game designers; I'm still thinking about the world they've crafted, despite being (possibly?) done with the adventure.

Reply

Hi DasChels,

The third video tape was a representation of Dr. Burr's child's innocence. The two first tapes were very practical in purpose, and adult in nature. The second one was just a recording of a children's show, "Crayon Time." The ad at the beginning discussed smiles and teeth, which I thought was a fun reference to the Cheshire cat.

Reply

I was thinking,

What if someone took the dead Rabbit and did some operating in the lab with a wanting (or not?) volunteer for a new Oystercloud? Now, I did'nt watch the films, ( because on the second episode Oystercloud is a scary hybrid and I did'nt want any more sudden flashes of a mutated rabbit-looking thing) but what I am reading from everyone who is contributing, it is pretty sad, random and creepy, just like the games themselves! Mabye this new Half-Rabbit creation has something to do with Borris, Alice and Mary Ann, Hatter and this March Hare, and may reveal something like a memory, about the two at the start on the phone (well, one now...), and the Queen/King (because it DOES say it's a he)...

(P.S. I have nothing to do with the creation of Alice is Dead, I'm just sharing my thoughts for a maybe Alice is Dead 4)

Reply

For those of you having trouble with the keypad:

The penny thing definitely works, but just smashing the thing with the brick is easier.

On Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum:

Again, the mushroom in the drink works, but you have to poison the drink, then go back to the dumpster. When you go back to the nightclub, they're poisoned/dead.

The pipe is easier: brawn over brains any day.

@Acidifiers:

The appearance of the tapes are triggered by clicking on the TUBeVATOR, and you're told that you have to find the tapes first.

The pipe can be used to bash the Tweedles.

@Jay What do you need help with? Where does the walkthrough fall short?

[I was going by the comments from people still claiming to have problems finishing the game. That usually indicates to me that the walkthrough needs work. -Jay]

About the ending

Is this really the end of Alice Is Dead?!

Reply

Note: The tapes

are not always in the same places... my first tape was NOT where somebody else listed their first tape being.

Reply

loved the series! beautiful music, gorgeous artwork yay!! and love the creepy mystery. wish there'd be more elucidation on the

science-experiment-story-thing!!! and if mary-ann is alice, then who died in the rabbit hole...? @_@ who wrote the stuff on the wall??

ALSO

there have been some gripes about what the briefcase number is for. it dawned on me that IT'S FOR THE BRIEFCASE IN EPISODE ONE!!! i was so excited until i realized that you already know the combination in ep 1. i suppose the "it took me 3 hours to get my briefcase open" is a lol at all of us who couldn't figure out the sequence @_@ ahhah

Reply

Phenominal game, phenominal series. Looking forward to more in the future hopefully

Reply

Finished the game with the help of this walkthrough (only started the walkthrough halfway the game) and it was truly a gripping game! Thank you Mike Morin for 3 awesome installments :)

Aside from the other questions that others have posted - I wanna ask a few!

What do the symbols on the rocks outside the city mean? When I mouse on those it just says "Mysterious code..whatever"
Does it mean anything?

Also is there a good ending to this? What about the bell, can it be disposed?

Reply

I wished we'd gotten more answers, but I'm hoping for a new series following

Alice.

I noticed one problem at the very beginning of the game. If you look at the locked door before getting the item/s needed to get inside, you're stuck. There's no way to exit the screen.

Reply

Anyone try dialing 911 on the phone? It works, heheheheh...

Emma, I looked at the locked door before I found any items. You can get out of the scene by

touching the black club to the left of the keypad and lock

I was able to get the items I needed then and go back and work on the door.

I loved the song in the bar. I have been a fan of the grand mis Hania Lee for a few years and its so nice to see good singers and song writers do cross over for wonderful games like this one. I wracked my brain on it for a while but I loved it and when my brain wouldn't work I just listened to the music. My only wish is for more. I will await your next game on pins and needles as always.

Reply

I really enjoyed this series! I guess I would love another instalment, but for me, it's actually okay to leave things unanswered.

The creepiest part of the game was the Cheshire cat!!! After it's sudden appearance in episode 2... I was on the edge of my seat during the whole of this one, fearing it would pop up again! :(

I think that after finding out that

the cat and girl merged

made it even creepier...

But it was sooooooooo sad :(

And also so sad that

the rabbit died

I'm just wondering also if

because someone also wondered whether it was the cat that killed Dr Burr, was it the cat that killed the guards in episode 2? And if it's capable of killing, why didn't it just kill the Queen by itself?

To @_@...

I DID wonder briefly who the 'dead' Alice was... but OMG you made such a good point!! WHO WROTE THE STUFF ON THE WALL IN EPISODE ONE???! I'm kinda thinking now that it's the Cheshire Cat coz she kept saying that she felt sick!!!!!!!! And she said she'd been a bad girl and no one knows...

Game was brilliant. I have all the songs, inc hush, hush here comes the boogeyman, haunted melody and finally the awesome Let them into your mind by Hania. I Respect very much the fact that you would spend time on here answering questions and taking criticism (although there isn't a lot...) where most game makers couldn't care for what the audience thinks and can't take any constructive criticism. A point though, the story got a bit fuzzy, and although i know the story now, i had to read most of it here first. The bonus bit after the credits looked a bit rushed as well though. One question:

Why was cheshire cats name on the phone? did he have a company making them? he should of had a appearance.

Hania's song should be released on the public
for its awesomeness, it sounds like it should be in a James Bond film! You should be able to pay for it as well.

I'm defiantly keeping my eye open for more great titles from you in the future!

P.s Can't you continue it one more time? please?

Another Walkthrough, if the first is kind of hard to follow.
Credit to basseq for tape location information.

I have been a fan of the Alice Is Dead series since the first. I love the artwork and quirky world-building, with the more demented and assassin guild touch to the characters. :)

I thought the ending was abrupt but good enough for me. However, I did think that

the girl at the end was Commander Shepard (FemShep) suddenly showing up in her ME1 body suit and shooting the Queen. XD I love that it's Alice, though.

Reply

Is there a problem with the thermostat?? I can't get it to do anything!!

Just another person saying how much fun the game was.

I enjoyed the level of creepy - enough to be atmospheric and interesting without being over the top "I don't want to click anywhere!"

I liked the song that lady was singing in the club, it was nice.

Reply

Hey, I just don't get why everyone just keeps saying that the Cheshire Cat appear in the second episode! Where was it? I played that ep. over and over and over again looking for it, and I just can't find it!

Reply

Hey, where was the Cheshire Cat in ep. 2?

Reply

Game Maker Mike, I hope you're still hanging around, because I have a question for you. The one thing I'm wondering about (which really has nothing to do with gameplay)

Why do people refer to the Queen as "he"? Unless it's a Freddie Mercury joke?

Reply

To "Mike" and "Whatever"--

I believe it is the figure you see standing beside the tree. It comes closer for a few seconds, right before you see the password "OYSTERCLOUD."

Reply

so who was the dead person in the rabbit hole? it couldn't be alice or the little girl (as i believe the little girl merged with the cat) and the cat is still alive (was seen in ep 2). who was it i wonder?

also in the journal, when alice went missing, why didn't the hatter let the rabbit look for her?

i'm confused with alice and mary ann. we see a cut scene of alice and the rabbit fight and its believed she was dead, so how is she suddenly alive and well, why was she posing as mary ann?

ah so confused about a lot of things.

Reply

how did the rabbit get amnesia anyway, what happened to the chesire cat after the queen died? what was the hatter's part in all of this? the rabbit knew mary ann but didn't know she was alice? this is one confusing game....

Omg i love this game is there gonna be a rabbitt is dead series if there was that would be totally awesome i like the way it ended it gave room for another game.

Reply

very nice game, wish it was longer though, that'd be sweet!

question: in the opening, the hatter says that alice tried to kill the rabbit like she was told to and this caused the rabbit to kill her/loose memories, but alice lives. so who did the rabbit kill? someone posing as alice or did everyone just think he killed alice but it turns out that she lived? and who is dead in the rabbit hole?

good job on a good game!

Exceptionalist September 26, 2010 4:10 PM

About the writing on the wall

It does look like the Cheshire cat/girl was the one who wrote it, however the Rabbit's journal states that the Hatter brought them the invisible ink, making it more likely that Alice or Mary Ann wrote it.

Reply

WOW what a great game!! The 3rd one was very creepy, i even jumped a few times lol.

What's up with the crayon and ads in the 3 video? Still don't get it. Yeah why were we given the code for the briefcase if we aren't to use it. And what does the mysterious writing on the rocks at the beginning mean? I didn't like the ending cause what's the point in getting a gun and not using it? lol When the rabbit got shot I literally screamed out "nooooooo!" lol

Would really like a 4th one or a new series completely starting from another character's point of view maybe. ^_^

The Cheshire Cat

is in this game, though. Look at the fish market sign above and to the right of your hideout's door and wait a while.

Reply

a few things ive noticed that i dont think anyone has mentioned yet

the cheshire cat

is seen on the fish billboard by your hideout. if you wait long enough it flashes there. also during the second tape, i think i saw the outline of the cat when you hear the girl "fuse" with the cat

the tapes

the first tape seems to switch locations. ive seen it in the bathroom, kitchen, and bar. just look around.

also at the end the lewis carrol quote

begin at the beginning and go on until you reach the end. makes me think that you need to replay it or there will be a sequel starting over from a different perspective

Reply

I should mention the tape (well, the first tape) can also be found on the oven (?) thing by the slot machine in the kitchen.

I rather like the ending leaving so many questions for us. If I remember right, Alice in Wonderland ends with Alice finding the Rabbit's clock inside her dress, yet, this one ends with

Alice coming back and killing the queen.

Yes, they are not at all the same scenarios, but it keeps the utter mystery thing going and that's what Alice is all about.

One question that wasn't asked before: Were twedledee and twedledum naked? and if so, why ? >.> Also,I don't get the mushroom-in-the-drink part... Like you put the mushroom in, they drink it, and one of them gets a hole in his head with the other's leg in? o.O And I really hope there's gonna be a Rabbit is Dead series or something like that from Alice's point of view after Rabbit died... or any other type of sequel cuz this game is too awesome to end like this :P. Oh and for the dead guards in ep 2: if u listen carefully while you are in Lewis' stomach you can hear that Hatter has escaped and I supposed he killed all the guards...

I don't really understand it. I did watch the real ending

I like it, I really did. =) The correct amount of spooky and cool. However I had to turn off my volume to stop myself getting slight nightmares... XD

This was awesome, honestly. I love games like this, that have that "something terribly horrible happened here" but don't completely tell you what exactly happened, leaving the most horrid parts to your imagination. The only thing I didn't like was that (at least my first play through of it) it didn't specify what went wrong, and I had to read one of Mike's comments on what exactly happened.

Joker's Fangirl March 6, 2011 4:36 PM

Okay, so.. When you call

Boris, and you hear the music. If you remember from the first game.. It's the beginning of "Here Comes the Boogy Man." Strange..

And the womans voice is so.. B E A Euuu tiful. I have a feeling, it's talking mostly about the Chesier Cat.

And why is the Chesier Cat so mutated? (If you watched 'till the end of the credits on the first game.) Is it because it is the girl and cat mutated together? And if that is so, how did they get formed together? These are questions that I think everyone has on their minds. And why does the girl/cat mention ghosts? Curiouser and curiouser.

But, all in all.. It was a fantastic game. Just, so many questions...

And just food for thought...

Why does it have so many mentions of fish. You've got falling fish, tuna, and a fish shop right next to Rabbit's house. Is it because cats like fish?

Reply

Honestly, I loved the series.

My opinion on the

Fish:
Burr's daughter can be presumed to have fused with a cat in the OysterCloud Project. If you read the diary, you find out that his daughter played with Rabbit and knew the others, therefore, she would know who was involved, in one way or another, with the project. When she fused with the Chesire Cat, maybe it accessed her memories and sought revenge on all particpants, which would explain why someone wanted Alice dead. Also, Burr's daughter and the Cat, while sharing the same body, could've taken control over it while still maintaining the same obsession over finding the involved people. Maybe the fish are just its way of letting them know they're next. As for the tuna...

Maybe Burr was going to test on "people" next.

and the

Gun and Bell:

If you read the complete diary, Rabbit keeps saying how he misses Alice. If you remember the pictures from AiD2, you see Rabbit throwing a body into the pit. But from the secret ending of AiD3, we see that Alice put a wig on the body. Maybe they killed someone else and Alice went into hiding.

Alternatively, Rabbit thinks he killed Alice, and therefore has guilt over his past. The bell would represent that and his refusal to use the gun would reflect that he acknowledges that he has nothing (?) left to live for so he wouldn't fight it. To me, it seemed as if Rabbit knew he was going to die and he accepted it.

Great series, Mike! I honestly hope we get to play more in this universe like

this episode was all a dream? It would actually fit with Wonderland.

I'm glad I got to see this version of Wonderland!

Reply
Michael June 17, 2011 1:13 AM

Well, just throwing something out there, in Burr's lab in the third bathroom stall, you can see some test tubes with dead cats in them, and one of the tubes are broken, so that could have been the Chesire cat that got out during testing and that's how Burr's daughter got mutated with the cat.

Reply
Midwinterain July 9, 2011 5:49 AM

Someone commented on the fact that

if alice is mary ann, then who was the dead body in the first game?

Well, my theory is that it was

burr's daughter. All over the walls it was written 'I don't feel well', 'I'm sick', and she said that in the second of the videos found.

Hmm? >D

Reply

@ Midwinterrain and all the other commenters.

If you read Rabbits journal he keeps saying he ate tuna and that he is sick. He also talks about a special green ink. If you remember in the first AID when you had the monocle and looked for the briefcase code. You may have seen messages on the wall in GREEN INK saying I'M SICK. You see the same message twice. In his journal Rabbit writes that he ate tuna twice. We can already see that fish is evil in this game (something to do with the cats no doubt) my theory is that it was Rabbit (not Alice) who wrote these messages in the rabbit hole. He was trapped in there will Alice's dead body that whole time. He didn't even know his identity up until he found the mirror so he wrote Kill the Rabbit all over the place. Alice had no intention on killing Rabbit. That was her friend. He was insane and had lost his memory so he was his own worst enemy and at the end of the AIDs series he just gave up :(

Reply

Mary Ann mentions ghosts because once the rabbit finds the tape he see's Dr Burr (Burr is dead), IF he had lived he would have seen that she was really Alice (he thought he had killed Alice) or she knew he was gonna die and he himself was a ghost haha

The walkthrough says there is a pipe near the exit door. What exit door? The walkthrough needs to be more clear explaining where the pipe is.

Happy gaming!

Just discovered this series, but I was very confused the first time I played through because I didn't spend enough time in the second one looking through the hole in the wall to actually find the Cheshire Cat, which messed up the third one for me. I did find the Cheshire Cat, but I've already played through the whole series, so now it isn't as amazing.

Oh my goodness... The only thing to scare me out of this whole trilogy was the Chesire Cat at the end of episode 2. I just replayed them all, because apparently I missed him. Now, i'm happy I did miss him at first. Wish me luck for sleeping tonight.

Is it just me or does this game lag? I can play all the other parts of the series without any problems but when I try to play the third episode, the game (and the whole browser; I'm using Firefox) lags extremely.
The weird thing is, that I played it when it was released and I didn't have any problems back then.
Does anyone have this problem, too?

@Pluvia and Pola,

I found that using internet explorer solves the lagging problem.

Also, can someone please explain the reason the Queen was a man?

I just played through the other two, so I was really disappointed when I got to episode 3. It lags so horribly that I could barely do anything. Finally I just had to close my browser. Tried it again, lagged, made other pages lag so that I had to close the tab the game was on just to leave this comment. I don't know why it's so awful, but it's a real shame :(

@ DasChels

I'm not quite sure, but Boris may be a reference to an anime called "Alice in the Country of Hearts". In it, all of the main characters have names. For example, the March Hare is

Elliot March (The animals have their titles ("MARCH hare") as their last names ("elliot MARCH"))

and the Mad Hatter is

Blood Dupre

Of course, the Cheshire Cat's name is

Boris Cheshire

Also, the song that the girl sings in the club is called "Alice is Dead" by Hania.

Basically, she's talking about this twisted version of Wonderland where everyone is absolutely insane and make everyone else the same way (like in Lewis Carroll's version: "'But I don't want to be among mad people,' Alice said. 'Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here!' replied the Cheshire Cat."). The only reference she makes to the Cheshire Cat is when she says "Magic potions, grinning fur. It's all a blur. It's all a blur."

Here are the lyrics for anyone who wants them (and I got them straight from her page so they should be accurate):

(Alice is dead)
I want you to know
That you've fallen through a hole in the sky
The strangers welcome you (welcome you)
As you lose your sanity
They touch your soul
Let them into your mind
Let them into, let me in you...
I want you to know
That the smoke bellows out
The depths of the pipe
Caress you, it makes you believe anything
All the truths, all the lies
Let them into your mind
Let them into, let me in you...
Let them into your mind
Let them in too, let me in you...
Magic potions, grinning fur
It's all a blur, it's all a blur
Magic poisons, royal tea
Run screaming, run screaming to me
I want you to know (Alice is dead)
I want you to know (Alice is dead)
Let them into your mind
Let them in, too.
Let me in you.

Played the third game long after it was first released, and it was good, although I agree there was a lot left unresolved. I'd like to see an episode 4 someday, although at this point it looks like that isn't likely.

I think the point of the bell is that it has no point; it's a twist on the typical point-and-click adventure game logic that everything you can pick up must have a purpose, when wonderland is so infused with madness that many things have no point.

I loved calling the hard-to-read number 555-7321 from the middle bathroom stall and getting the march hare; awesome.

I am also still confused about who's who in the very ending. Alice has blonde hair in the flashbacks, and Mary Ann has black hair in the photo in the journal, and the woman at the very end has red hair... so who is who?!?

And does anyone know how you earn the secret medal from the Newgrounds hosting of the site? Is there some secret no one's found yet?

Alright, found the secret medal; you need to

win at the slots without first modifying the odds; just keep playing long enough and it should happen. Disappointing for a secret, but I guess it's not like we were really promised anything.

Also,

I suppose Alice was actually a redhead the whole time and only wearing a blonde wig? Because in the flashbacks in the ending it looks like she's first taking the blonde wig off of herself, then putting it onto the corpse. That's kind of silly, why would she do that, but it's something. But I still don't know what's up with Mary Ann: Was that her dead in the pit, and Alice was behind the texts that seemed to be from Mary Ann; or were they both alive and acting independently? Does anyone know if the game maker ever actually released a consolidated Q&A like he said he was going to, and if so, where?

I would like to point out that in the book,

Mary Ann is the name of the Rabbit's housekeeper. She is not described but Rabbit mistakes Alice for Mary Ann so it is possible that it was Mary Ann in the hole in episode one therefore Rabbit killed the wrong person and Alice was posing as Mary Ann (for what reason, I have no idea)

I played through all three games, but I still don't really know what's going on... T-T

It's a great game with a great atmosphere, but it was kinda spoiled for me by the fact that the game was very laggy, even when I played it on Kongregate. I'm using Google Chrome, does anyone else have the same problem?
