Reader reviewDr. DokkoyThe following is a reader-submitted review by Beth:

I am a big fan of point-and-click games and recently I enjoyed playing the escape games from Aztec. Now, as luck would have it, a sequel to the previously reviewed Escape from Octlien has only just been made available. The game is called Dr. Dokkoy and it is just as satisfying as the first game. It has the same simple controls that the other games have, and answers more questions left from the last game. Unlike most point-and-click games, this game has an engaging story line. If you haven't played the other games first, it is recommended that you play them in order:

  1. The Shrine
  2. Escape from Island
  3. Escape from Octlien
  4. Dr. Dokkoy

Like most games of its type, items are still found throughout Dr. Dokkoy, but it does not need the disclaimer that you may break your mouse from pixel hunting. I have searched other game sites and this has not been posted anywhere (yet). Therefore, there is also no walkthrough (There is one now! Thanks to Radamanthys!). So, let the discussion begin!

Complete Walkthrough! For you!

  1. First get the rope from the tree just to the right of the "private, keep out" sign

  2. Head north, and west. get the kite.

  3. Head back east, then north, then east. Click the tree. Grab the acorns that fall.

  4. Go north twice, then east. Use the acorns on the hole in the tree to get the squirrel away. Grab the key.

  5. Head back west, use the key on the door behind the well.

  6. Inside that room (go north), there are three items.

  7. Next to the cat is a rock under glass, click that twice to pick it up,

  8. Behind the box under the table is a lens. Pick that up.

  9. In the desk, there's a cord. Pick that up. Look around the room for some story elements.

  10. Head South, East, North, West, North, East. Click the rocks in front of the tunnel. One moves to reveal a Magnet. Pick that up.

  11. Go North once. Use the kite on the thing hanging from the telescope. Something will fall. Click it and you'll get a pully.

  12. Go North once, into the observatory. Behind the chair is a semicircular cabinet. Open that to get a battery.

  13. Click the chair, pick up the matches behind it.

  14. Use the lens on the telescope. When you look through it, the Kunai (the arrow) is missing from the graphics, click where it usually would be to leave.

  15. Head back. South, then west. Watch the cut scene. Oh no!

  16. Head South, east, south, west. Use the pully and then the rope on the well.

  17. Climb down the well and grab the necklace. Climb back up.

  18. Head south. Click the right tube, next to the open door thing. Use the battery on it.

  19. Enter the portal/door/glowingtubething. Open the panel and use the cord to fix the broken wire. Head back through the portal.

  20. Head south again. Use the necklace on the statue.

  21. Head west, and use the matches on the red bush (it's called a burning bush, I think. Clever) Get the iron pipe.

  22. Head East, north, north, east, north, west, west, west. Use the pipe on the boulder. Go through the door (north).

  23. Go west. Grab the bucket.

  24. Use the magnet on the 'thing sticking out of the rock' to get the ice pick.

  25. Head east, south, east, east, north. Click on the hot springs/ pool of water. Quickly fill your bucket.

  26. Head south, then east. Someone's homeowner's insurance is going up. I don't think most companies cover 'damage by huge boulder'.

  27. Right under the boulder is a power strip (looks kinda like a mousetrap on screen). Grab it.

  28. Head south, west, south, south, west, south. open the treehouse thing. Enter.

  29. Use the bucket on the thermometer. Leave.

  30. Head North, east north. Click the shiny thing at the end of the rainbow... you'll eventually find a key there.

  31. Head north, then west. Use the key on the gate to get the fireworks.

  32. Head east, east, north, west, west. Put the "ancient rock" that you got from the doctor's office on the dark rock inbetween the emitters. (They look more like surround sound speakers to me). Turn them on by clicking them.

  33. Use the icepick on the ancient rock. Pick up the orb of fox.

  34. Head east, then north, near the hot springs. Just above the dark rock to the right of the screen, use the fireworks. Boomsplat. Get the antenna.

  35. Head south, east, south, west, north. Back to the doctors office. Click the wastepaper basket to the right of the table to reveal an outlet.

  36. Use the power strip on the outlet.

  37. You may have to flip the switch on the side wall, but use the antenna on the table to weld it back together.

  38. Head south, south, south, east, south, east. Put the orb of fox in the offering bowl. Crafty... like a fox. (you knew it was coming)

  39. Head west, north, west. Climb the tower.

  40. Use the antenna on the little platform to the right of the button. Raise the lever. Push the button. Bam!

  41. Enjoy, you've finished! Fried black robot for dinner tonight!

Great game, so far. A couple things that were not too obvious, at first- stuff I didn't think to click on at all. I'm finding myself rather stuck, but isn't that really the fun of these kinda games, in the first place?

I love Aztec's work, and luckily, I just replayed Escape from Octlien randomly two days ago... go figure.

Reply

i dont know what to do after you get the fireworks out of the locked door.

Reply

I'm hopeless when it comes to point and click games.
So far...

Rope, Kite, Acorn, Key
And as far as I can tell there is only one locked door and they Key wont work!

Reply

on the part where thers a whole bunch of junk lying on the ground, theres a tree to the right and theres a hole in the tree where a squirrel is, give acorn

Reply

I hit a bug. After collecting about 10 items, I looked through the telescope and the game just hung on the image. I could still look at items but could not get out of the view screen or continue.

Reply

slgalt, you have to click the bottom portion of the screen where there would be an arrow.

right now, i have all but one of the items. the latest thing i've done is

used the necklace on the statue and raised the platform. at the top, i can see the robot i released in the distance, but i don't know how to operate the machinery. the one item i have left is the fireworks, which i can use on the cliff to the right of the windmill. i can keep uing it, too, which makes me believe that i'm not using it quite right.

Reply

where did you click on a bug, and what are the last five items

Reply

Redken:

There's a tiny door that's rather inconspicuous because it doesn't make the mouse turn to a hand (if i remember correctly...) If you still can't find it, here's another spoiler!

It's one screen east of the other locked door you mentioned.

Hope that helps!

Reply

about the fireworks

you need to use the fireworks on the antenna by the hotwater spring; then fix the antenna in the room by the will, i beleive we need to use it on the right side of the windmill but can't do it just yet

Reply

josh,

the items i have are (from left to right in your inventory): a rope, iron bar, kite, acorn, key, lens, blue wire, moon rock, magnet, pulley, battery, match, key, cord, bucket, _blank_, fireworks, orb, pickaxe, and necklace.

does anyone have any ideas on where i should go from here? i'm still stuck.

Reply

What is the second to last item, and what is the pick for?

Reply

oh, ok so put the rock between the two blue boxes on the stilts, and turn them on, then off and hit it with a pick

Reply

John, here are a few

orb-on the statue where you found the kite; matches-light the leaves on the right on the 3rd screen from the start; kite-use on the hanging pulley from the telescope on the top of the hill, use rope and pulley on the will to get the necklace; use iron bar on the boulder

hana,

i've got all of that. the most recent thing i did was raise the platform after putting the necklace on the statue. now i have the fireworks, but can't seem to use them on the antenna like you suggested. i am also still missing one item.

Reply

oh ok i just couldnt figure out how to get the satellite thing

Reply

John,

Use the fireworks just above the dark rock to the right of the screen, by the hot springs

Reply

thanks radamanthys. i wasn't putting the fireworks in the right place. got it.

pretty cool game, although i haven't played the earlier ones.

Reply

Yea, that's what got me the most 'pixelclick' type of stuck. Everything else was pretty straightforward, as soon as I reasoned it out.

Definitely play the rest of Aztec's games. There's a whole story, with continuity and everything. They're fun, too! I like them in that reason, and examining everything, is the key — not having to click the tiniest pixel... especially since I keep my resolution at 1600x1280...

Great game, but I can't get the antennae to sit on the 'platform' to see the end play :-(

Wow... this game is really hard (at least for me... :-/ ).

Great game, none the less.

Saludos :)

Reply

well, it would be a good game if

the antenna would go on the tower

Reply

Radamanthys, on your walkthrough, (which is very helpful up to now) I have gotton the fireworks
and you're directing me west into a wall...
Hmmm

Reply

In fact, towards the end, you seem to confuse west

Reply

The first two games in the series were my favourites. This one was fairly confusing, both in terms of "Where do I find/use these things?" and "What just happened?". I ended up trying to click the kite on everything, but failed to click it on the thing I had to click it on.

Was the point of the game just to blow up the robot? It didn't really do anything, except when the volcano hit it over the head with a rock. Still, Foxbot was cute and destructive simultaneously.

Reply

Wow, that was a great game. My favorite part was

the key at the end of the rainbow.

Very creative.

Reply

See what I get for going to bed early, I missed the posting of a new game!

I'm going to try to avoid using hints at all this time... I'm already stuck but I'm sure it's only temporary, I just started...

Wish me luck!

Reply

A little easter egg, don't know if it affects the game at all but two east of where you get the ice pick, on the empty ledge, if you launch the fireworks you get an animation of a spaceship launching off behind a mountain in the distance.

Reply

I found this one quite tricky in a couple of places.

I did not "get" that the fireworks is a bomb and a launching tube, and that it's going to shoot. As a result, I spent a lot of time placing them stupidly.

At the beginning:

I totally missed that rope there. Good thing there was a walkthrough!

Also, for kira:

Did you remember to weld the antenna back together in the room with the cat?

Reply

ROBOT BATTLE! *nothing happens* *clicks harder* ROBOT BATTLE!!! Mwahahahaha!!!

Reply

giant robot battle, lol, that's just so Japanese :)

sorry for making it a stereotype, but hey, everyody loves giant robot battles anyway :)

Reply

For those having trouble with the explosives/fireworks, you can pixel hunt or ....

place the explosives above/near the RIGHT ARROW in the robot/water/attennae room

Reply

I don't think this particular episode was as good as some of the previous games (seemed less logical), but it was still fun.

It looks like no one has pointed out

the second use of the fireworks

where you can fire it (but only if you have not used it for its real purpose

on the volcano

) at the distant rock ledge on the seemingly pointless screen 2 positions right of where you get the ice axe

It makes a rocket ship fly out of the ground. That's it.

Reply

There are a few west-east mistakes in the walkthrough,

Head west, west, north, east, east. Put the "ancient rock" that you got from the doctor's office on the dark rock inbetween the emitters. (They look more like surround sound speakers to me). Turn them on by clicking them.
Needs west and east swapping, as does another but I can't see it now.

When the huge fox appeard all I could think of was Transformers.

Reply
andy the gamemaster December 2, 2007 10:09 AM

wait, that giant fox was a robot? i thought it was the foxgod or something.... anyway, i cant beleive that

that the cat was a cyborg cat! thats so awesome!

Reply

You know people it's easier to say to aim the fireworks at the volcano on the right side of the screen instead of the dark rock on the right side of the screen. I spent 2 days trying to do that on the rock.

Reply

hey would anyone be interested in spelling out the whole story thus far from "Shrine" to "Dokkoy". i'm a little lost as to what's happening.

Had to check the walkthrough a couple of times (thanks Radaman) but I really enjoy this series. It seems to hold its own story whether you understand it or not.

Well done

i love all of the aztec games, and this one is no exception, there also the only point and click games and can solve with little to no help

What I want to know is...where's the cat?

Reply

Aw, kitty...OK, I'm happy now! ha

Reply

This is a pretty poorly constructed game, rarely ever do you know the reason's for what you are doing. the fox orb, use of the lasers, telescope scene. It makes no sense, leading to a very poor story line. Ha, if you want to call that series of random animations a story line. At no point during the sequence do you find out your relationship to the terrain, the robots, or the reason your running around. Its not an "escape the room game" its a waste of time game with no known direction until the very end. The items collected rarely resembled anything close to what they really were. A bomb and rope on a tube are fireworks? Fire works! and why did we have to place them to the right of the screen to use them, so they could magically shift over to the left with no rhyme or reason? From now on any designer or programmer who isn't professional enough to finish his/her work just explain so in the introduction, so we can all save ourselves a little time. Oh boy! I love clicking on random pixels until things that don't make sense happen. Its great, and I love wasting my time on pointless poorly designed games. All in all this game is a waste of time for anyone who plays it.

Reply

I thought in all these games. the kitty was his "signature".I was disappointed it was a robot. I finished the game. Now I was thinking of a paradox it created.

If I didn't explore, would they have sent the robots. Then we wouldn't need the Foxbot.

ANYWAY,GREAT GAME!:)

Reply

Have now played all the four Aztecs.

Can someone please tell me what the story actually was?
It isn't obvious... and I really do not understand where the cat went after we put him into our spacesuit, then fly away, then in the next game, there is magically sitting on a sideboard... or are there multiple cats?!

Sigh.

I have been really disappointed recently with point-and-click escape games. I want one that keeps going and has a lovely ending. Is that too much to ask?!

I'm still waiting for Trapped part 3 ;)

I think lean lark was a little over-the-top in their rant, but I do completely agree about how it isn't at all logical. Especially the fireworks!! WHY would fireworks move themselves over the screen? Surely if that is the place they are supposed to go to, then why not just let us put them there in the first place!

ALSO!! Why in hell was the ending that we blow up the black robot?! He did nothing to hurt us! In fact, we were the ones who made him come alive (in the previous game)?!

So PLEASE, someone, write down the full story of the Aztecs.

Reply

Another inconsistency

Why do you need matches to burn the tree, but you don't need anything to light the fireworks?

-Grr+1

Reply

the most difficult part was

placing the antenna on the tower

which was actually

somewhere on or above the ladder

It took me nearly as much time to figure the end out as it did to play the rest of the game! and the ending was..interesting, if not necessary

Reply

I didnt see the

Giant fox gundam robo thingy

Reply

I love the little kitty

Reply

Maybe it's just me, but did anyone else...

... get the idea that the kitty was a robot from that piece of paper stuck to the wall? The one that the kitty was pawing at?

If that's the case, I find that very amusing.

Hooray! I didn't have to use the walkthrough hardly at all! Usually I end up using the walkthrough for almost the whole game, but this game I finished in 31 minutes with minimal help! :D

I really like this one. It's my favorite in the series so far.

I never thought of the game that way..... but you're absolutely right. I still had enjoyed the game, though.(even though it really had no point. I mostly looked at the walkthrough just to finish it.

Re: Fireworks.

It took me a while to figure it out, but where you place the fireworks is where you *aim*. Not where the fireworks sit. So in that sense, the player doesn't have to calculate any trajectories.

Good game October 8, 2009 2:56 PM

Great game. Hadn't a clue what I was doing or why I was doing it, but it all seemed to work fine. Most enjoyable escape game for ages.

The one small snag for anyone reading this with problems...

You get right to the end and then it throws you an absurdity which forces you to find a walkthrough, just when you thought you were going to feel chuffed that you did this bizarre puzzle all by yourself with brains and stuff.

Blowing up the antenna is virtually impossible to guess at and has no link to using your skills to figure it out either.

10/10 up to that point, then it drops to a 5/10 right at the end for spoiling an otherwise great adventure into the unknown.
