Jay Often we have to scour the Web to find engaging and compelling online Flash games to feature here, and sometimes you do that for us by using our handy online game suggestion form. The following game was submitted so many times during the past couple of days that it wasn't difficult for us to decide whether to feature a review for it. And after playing through the game, I have to concur that it is indeed an excellent new puzzle game.

Bloxorz is a simple idea for a puzzle game that is beautifully executed. The objective is to tumble a rectangular block through each stage and deposit it into the square hole at the end. Using a series of bridge-opening switches, teleporters, and block-splitting switches, solve the puzzle each stage presents to move on to the next of the game's 33 levels.

Use the arrow keys for control to tumble the block around the play field, but don't let it fall off the edges. The round switches can be just rolled over to trip, but the "X" switches require a little more weight, so you'll have to stand the block on end to trip them. The 3rd type, the "[ ]" switches, split the block in two, which can then be moved independently from one another. This introduces an interesting twist to the tactics you will need to employ to solve these later levels. To switch between block fragments, press [space].

Each level provides a password that allows you to resume a game by loading the game from that point. It would be nice if the game just saved your progress along the way, but a password system is welcome in absence of an easier interface for accessing levels. You will find a complete list of passwords in the comments, thanks to reapaninja, as well as a complete walkthrough for all of the levels, thanks to firenz.

The trick to this game (esp levels like #11) is to:

look at where you know you absolutely have to be standing up or lying down to get to the exit and work logically backwards from that point (to get to here I'd have to be here first and before that here and before that etc. etc.)

Not sure if thats a real spoiler, but I figured its better to be safe.

This game is definitely challenging, but it never gets to the point where you feel like you will never get it. Right now, I'm stuck on Level 11 but know what I have to do to win. Isn't it always like this for good puzzle games?

You're definitely missing something.
hint:

You can turn it around on the lower "platform" and then get it back to the upper with the hole.

It sometimes helps to think "backwards". Like how is it supposed to lie to get past a point, and then count the road back to where it is.

Remember that you can roll it, when it's lying down. That often helps.

Great game. Simple and enjoyable with decent number of levels. As the game went on it would have been nice to see a few new floor tiles or possibly a larger block to control. I would love to see another version of this game but with an "L" shaped block.

For those (like me) who were having trouble with level 29:

A hint:

You have to get all three of the "X" pressure switches to finish the level

The solution:

Top left is Left 1, below that is Left 2; top right is Right 1, below that is Right 2, below that is Right 3, etc.:
Hit the switches in this order: Right 3 => Left 1 => Right 1 => Right 4 => Right 2 => Left 2

On 11

Go around the gap (NOT the one where you finish the other one) start at the bottom and then when you finish going around go backwards just a bit so you can change where the box will end, then go again forward and head towards the hole, you probably can figure the rest out on your own ;)

I need undo! I keep accidently falling of ledges, sometimes because my finger gets bored, or I have a brief brain-fart and realize what I've done 1/300sec to late to save the plummeting block!

kiki - you're right, passwords aren't technically a walkthrough, but they sure help get you through the game: if you get stuck on a level, enter the password for the next level and skip it.

I would love it if someone would come up with a walkthrough for this game, I'll add it to the section above along with the passwords. Anyone?

For 28:

Go down over the yellow tiles.. then to the right towards the teleportation Device.

Do not hit the button. Try to go around the button (clockwise.. and then go up)..
Go back towards your intitial position, and shift your position a bit, and come back. The idea is to hit the teleportation device from the top-left, not bottom. So trace your steps back from there to see where you have to be.

You can't get on that pad the first time you reach it. So go further.

Literally go as far as you can, all the way to the end of that crisscross part, and PAST it back to where you started.

You can't go far back where you started, but you need to reposition yourself to go back down the criss cross. Do it right, and you'll land on the teleport.

31...not that bad! It's just a matter of using the hard switches in the right order (and not hitting those soft ones!) With the right switch order it almost solves itself. Spoiler maybe later.

Level 33 was TOUGH! That level stumped me for quite a while. I would recommend just ignoring the buttons at first (go over them even though you aren't supposed to) and work your way backwards from the X to the beginning of the levels without hitting any buttons. That way you can figure out how to get to the X without hitting the buttons by doing it in reverse. Once you figure out how to get to the X without hitting buttons, it isn't very hard to get to the end of the level. Good luck.

Woohoo.. Great game - 33 is a real killer but I beat it by working my way backwards as said here earlier.
Finished the game in 3546 moves, 2.32.59 hours and had 86 attempts. Talking about having too much time at hand.. ;o)

I haven't needed help so far, but I am stumped on 31. This is the one where there are there are Two X's (top right & bottom left) on the middle platform but you can't get across the bridges they make because the soft switches destroy the bridges. Any hints would be appreciated.

Neo - for 33 don't bother trying to solve it first go. Just get yourself to where you can trigger the hard switch (hitting soft ones on the way, you can start again later) then work backwards.

Then just restart and you should have a decent-ish idea of how to get there, then it's a matter of finding the right path to the exit.

Howdy yall. Actually, IMO hardest levels were: 11, 23, 28, 30, 32.

My ultimate piece of advice, after finishing them all last night, is...

It helps to think of where you need to go to finish, but also think of where you CAN'T go, even if all the bridges are open. A lot of levels have red herrings, or paths that you can't choose because there is no possible way to fit your block through.

Trust me, 33 is NOT impossible. I have completed it but do not know the rought too well so I didn't note down the walkthrough for it. Here's a little hint about the buttons:

Imagine your in a mine field, if you hit any button you blow the bridge and you cannot fix it on your own.

If you hit a button then you have failed. Its as simple as that.

Good game, took me 5 tries to do level 33 but 10 minutes to do it. Just think about it.

I have looked back at level 33 and I have decided to let out some of the steps needed.

Only check if you are certain... Here are the 40 steps required to access the button on the right, the X button..Steps in groups of 10.

Hi guys,

The level 7 bridge is completly USEFUL. The trick is to get the block laying down (half on the bridge, half on the normal playing ground.) Then, you roll down to the one-lined ground and roll, up,flat,up,flat. You can figure it out from there.
