JayFree the BirdFree the Bird is a Flash point-and-click game similar to a room escape game except that the objective is to, of course, free the bird instead. Now if you're at all familiar with Bart Bonte's previous work, Bonte Room and Bonte Room 2, you may be scratching your head wondering why on Earth would anyone want to let that annoying bird out, other than perhaps letting it go free; it has a spine-tingling screech that doesn't take long to dislike very much.

Submitted to our game design competition in August, Free the Bird is a simple puzzle game that offers a satisfying reward if you solve it by yourself. The game features the same pleasing minimalism artistic style that Bart is noted for, and it is of clever design, too. Just enough for a midday break.

Walkthrough Guide

I finally got the hang of it!

Spoilers:

Note the time on your computer.

Duplicate it to the clock by pulling the 4 "tails" below the clock.

Right lever activates the cuckoo bird

Left lever.... positions where the bird will appear (4 positions)

Time and tide waits for no man. If the cuckoo does not appear, check your clock again. Perhaps 1 min has passed.

You should activate the Left 4th lever and click repeatedly on the right lever.

The cuckoo bird should bite the string and release the bird.

AWESOME! Fun and simple

I bet the clock needs to read a certain time before the little Cuckoo pops out....

the weights on the left of the clock control the hour hand, and the weights on the right control the minute hand

by the way I love JAY IS GAMES!!!!

the other switches do something too just not sure what

I did it! I'm so proud of myself! I do these all the time, but I'm not very good, so I enjoyed an easy one.

I could have sworn I originally played this here many months ago. Is this the second time I seen this here? Maybe DeJavu from playing somewhere else. That's what happens when you play around on the net a lot.

Urg. when first out in the comp, I was stumped. when you post this, it just clicked, and took less than a minute. reminds me of that three scene escape the room one.

Reply

Ha! Got it. That was pretty clever. Kind of satisfying at the end, if you know what I mean. :|

I dont know what to do. I know the levers control the minutes and hours, but thats all.
Could someone please give me a hint?

thanks =D

Awesome, I found this one a lot easier than Bonte Room 1 and 2... finally did a point and click without hints!

And btw, Jay, love your site man. Been visiting here every day for almost a year now. I don't know how many hours I've wasted playing flash games :P

hmmm ok.....

you say i should add the time shown to my windows clock right?
the sum was 7.29pm ... but the bird never comes out :/
is my clock broken or why does it not work?

Reply

Finally, this one has been bugging me for ages!

Reply

Not add, *set*. And I think Jay mentioned already that this was one of the entries in the recent contest, hence the feeling of deja vu.

I keep trying to set the clock to my computer clock but it doesn't work. Then also my computer is set to the time in France but I'm not in france. My internet connection is set to another time (when I go on the net the time it says is the time of the place where I am not the french one). The game works on the computer time no ?
Thanks !

Irashtar, do you mean ESC? I liked that one too, finding the red block in the chair was my only problem. BTW, this game TOTALLY stumped me. I could NOT solve it without a spoiler.

halloween is coming, and to celebrate my love
of computer games, I will be the dreaded BSoD!!

finally got it.pretty easy, just did'nt know what the levers did.LOL

Reply

the very first time i played the clock on the game

was exactly the same as my computer time straight away

so i randomly clicked levers and got it straight away

Reply

Even a stopped clock shows the right time twice a day! =)

Reply

my problem with this game is I thought the trees in the picture

indicated what position to set the clock. I had the darn clock set for 12:10, which looked like the position of the palm trees.

but i guess game designers, especially ones this good, are alowed to be tricky!

Wow. Die, parrot, die! Don't worry folks, he's in a BETTER PLACE now.

hmm.. how long do i have to wait? minutes and minutes passed, and it still doesnt come out.

Cool game u just have to

make the time on ur windows in the game and click the right lever

Reply

if the cuckoo doesn't come out, you might also want to check your windows time is the right time for your timezone. So basically, you need to have the windows time for your timezone

Walkthough:

Try not to click on the parrot. It is very annoying. :P

Okay, so here's what you do:
Look at the time. See the clock on the wall? Adjust the dangly-down bits to make the time (in GMT) appear on the clock. Hopefully you know what GMT means, because I cannot spell the G :P.

Second:

See that there are two sticking-out bits next to the face of the clock. Click the left-hand one and make it go down to its extent. Click the right-hand one. It will sart breaking the rope that holds the parrot. Do this five times, not including the one that i just told you to do. Turn down your headphones/speakers, whatever before you do the last cuck-oo. A big clatter. Well done!
