Wild Heroes

KimberlyThe magic castles of the realm must be protected in Wild Heroes, a tower defense game of heroic proportions from Global Pixel Studios. It's left to the bravest among us to face the foe and declare victory! If you've played tower defense games before, you'll be familiar with the basics. Instead of towers, you'll have heroes from among the animal kingdom to choose from. Click to select the hero you want, then click anywhere except on the path to place him or her. You'll find the occasional highlighted red spot which increases the power of the hero placed on it, and blue spots which increase range. By clicking on a placed hero, you can upgrade, sell, or choose a target priority. Heroes can be upgraded three times, with the third upgrade triggering the wild ability. The wild upgrade adds a special attack (above and beyond the standard attack) that occasionally triggers which really helps keep the monsters at bay. Each hero has unique abilities and strategic placement is key to beating back the enemy. In between levels you can use stars earned to upgrade a variety of things, as well as get more detailed information on your heroes or enemy units in the bestiary.

While not terribly innovative, Wild Heroes offers a solid tower defense game. It has all the amenities a good defense game should have: A fast forward button, three difficulty levels, a large map, achievements to be earned, and unlockable heroes and spells. So settle in! You've got some castles to save!

Wild Heroes Strategy Guide

Upgrades

Powers

  1. Arrows: Rains poison arrows on creatures that you target. Damage is spread between all enemies in range of your target. Costs 10 mana.

  2. Healing: Will heal your castle when it takes damage. Costs 20 mana.

  3. Ice: Use to freeze enemies then click on the frozen enemy to destroy it before they unfreeze. Costs 25 mana.

  4. Lightning: Tap rapidly on the screen to cause a vicious lightning bolt. The faster you tap the strong the bolt and the longer the duration. Costs 45 mana.

  5. Fire: Drag cursor (or finger for mobile version) over the enemy you want to burn. Does lots of damage. Costs 65 mana.

  6. Black Hole: Will place a black hole on the battlefield that sucks in all enemies within range. Doesn't work on bosses. Costs 100 mana.

Skills

  1. Mana: You can increase the amount of mana you will start the round with.

  2. Fruit: This will increase the amount of fruit you will start the round with.

  3. Defense: Your castle will become stronger and thus will be able to avoid damage when hit.

  4. Mana Regen: Increases the rate at which your mana will regenerate when in combat.

  5. Extra Range: Gives a wider range boost for any tower placed in the blue range circle.

  6. Power Boost: Makes the attack boost (red circle) stronger for any tower placed on it.

  7. Fruit Drop: Increases the chance an enemy will drop fruit when killed.

Towers

  1. Dog: Melee, uses sword. Cost: 30 fruit, to upgrade: 20 fruit.

  2. Cat: Ranged, uses bow and arrows. Cost: 20 fruit, to upgrade: 13 fruit.

  3. Tortoise: AOE/splash damage, uses cannon. Cost: 50 fruit, to upgrade: 33 fruit.

  4. Snake: Poisons foes. Cost: 60 fruit, to upgrade: 40 fruit.

  5. Penguin: Freezes enemies. Cost: 40 fruit, to upgrade: 27 fruit.

  6. Abyssal: Lightning bolt, electric shock. Cost: 70 fruit, to upgrade: 47 fruit.

  7. Salamander: Ranged, throws fireballs. Cost: 100 fruit, to upgrade: 67 fruit.

  8. Dragon: Ranged, energy beam. Cost: 150 fruit, to upgrade: 100 fruit.

Bosses

  1. Golem: This creature will ressurect after you kill it, but will only start back up at half health the second time around.

  2. Minotauro: Heavy hitter but will go down fairly quick.

  3. Triton: Comes from ponds and goes down fast.

  4. Troya: A Trojan horse that once you get the health down far enough will release a barrage of attackers.

  5. Cyclops: Will grab trees to beat your castle with, hits very hard.

  6. Yeti: Only seen on icy fields.

  7. Grifo: Cares not for paths and will fly straight for your castle.

  8. Dragon: Breathes fire.

  9. Dark King: Final boss, will revive a second time even stronger than his first form. In first form he will summon minions to attack and stay in one spot the duration of the fight. In second form he will move and place a black hole on different areas.

Tips

  1. The red circles are for boosting attack power, while the blue circles are for boosting range.

  2. To switch things up, placing your dog or tortoise in the blue circles will allow their hard hitting attacks to extend further.

  3. Your cat (ranged) already has a great range so putting it in the red circle to boost the attack, while strange, can help down enemies at a more rapid pace, especially once you have obtained it's wild ability (multi-shot).

  4. At later levels, after you have obtained the dragon tower, you will be best served by waiting until the middle half of the round before purchasing it. The attacks, while very strong, are also slower and less efficient than buying faster dps such as the cat, abyssal, or salamander. Put down the cheaper, faster hitting towers before spending the 150 fruit to purchase the dragon and the extra three hundred fruit to upgrade to the wild ability.

  5. The penguin is very valuable, not only for slowing enemies but also for its wild ability which will freeze a target. Once a target is frozen in the solid block of ice click on it to decimate it. This does not work for sub-bosses and regular bosses.

  6. The lightning spell and the healing spell are two of the best to have full points in. Healing because it keeps your castle alive if attacked, lightning because it has a great duration and can move based on where you click.

  7. The black hole spell is good for groups of enemies, but isn't worth the cost if you have less than ten to get rid of.

  8. The various skills available each have their benefits but some are easily better than others. Your towers are already very strong so the range and attack power boosts are helpful but not so badly needed that you have to put points in either.

  9. When making your groups it's easier to get all cats to wild level quickly because of lower fruit requirements. They are also very effective because of multi-shot ability along with great range.

I'm mostly loving this game, so I'm curious if anyone else has seen this happen--in the middle of a wave, my heroes stop fighting and just watch one of the bad guys bang his head into the castle. Is that supposed to happen?
