Weekend Download

JohnBYou wouldn't forget a thing like me, not even if you caught me red-handed in the crime zone. If you did, I might run away, screaming AAAAA until I managed to escape.

forgetme.gifForget-Me-Not (Mac/Win, 5MB, free) - You played the iOS game by Nyarlu Labs called Forget-Me-Not, correct? Now you can enjoy the same hyper-difficult arcade-meets-roguelike-RPG action on your Mac/Windows computer! Run around the Pac-Man-esque mazes as you pick up dots and shoot enemies that get in your way. Get the key, go for the door, and try to collect everything you can along the way. It's a good old-fashioned high score challenge, and the smart enemies combined with the wealth of in-game events makes it a fresh experience every time you pick it up.

crimezone.gifCrime Zone (Windows, 2MB, free) - This game... is an experience. It's styled like a classic adventure title, but the content is something almost completely different. Each screen puts you in front of the streets as a different cop. You're working hard, checking out strange happenings, patrolling like a boss, and then you change locations and thus shift personalities. Some really odd things happen in the Crime Zone, and you find yourself being drawn to a strange hotel. Also: what the heck is going on?

aaaaa.gifAAAAA (Windows, 2.4MB, free) - You like demakes? This little release from a GameJolt demake competition simplifies and flattens AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! A Reckless Disregard for Gravity, turning it into a pre-8-bit diving game. Hop from the building and float left and right, passing between barriers and aiming for the colored rectangles sitting in-between. It's surprisingly difficult to navigate safely as you fall from the top of the tower, even though there are only two dimensions you have to worry about.

Note: All games have been confirmed to run under Windows 7 and are virus-free. Mac users should try Boot Camp, Parallels, or CrossOver Games to play Windows titles, Linux users can use Wine. If you know of a great game we should feature, use the Submit link above to send it in!

Just one thing to say, John.
Every time I see the images for the downloads, all of the games look fun.
And then I look at the platforms:
It turns out that, almost 70 or 80% of the time, the games are only for Windows.
Forget-Me-Not does still look fun, but I would be really happy if you could be a little more Mac friendly. :)

Thanks,
Vince

@Vince:

It's not John's fault. Indie developers of games featured here on Weekend Download are predominantly Windows developers, there just isn't a similar community of indie developers on the Mac.

The beautiful thing about Macs is that they can run Windows, which means you never have to worry about a game not running on your computer. All you need is a copy of Windows. If you're serious about playing games on your computer, then you really should install Windows on your Mac.

I don't have a Windows-only PC, I just have Macs. And I haven't had a Windows-only PC for years now and still I am able to play all games, and I'm able to test the site in all browsers on both platforms.

Complaining that you can't play Windows-only games when you have a Mac is futile and silly, because, in fact, you can.

I'd like to know what demake competition AAAAAAA is from, so I can play more games of it! It's not Ludum Dare or TIGSource, so I don't know what it is.

Oh, I think I remember that, I kind of forgot it though!

Oh, terribly sorry, Jay. I wasn't aware of that mind you.
Thanks for letting me know :D

Now... Where can I get myself a copy of Windows...?

Reply

Vince: If you've got one of the newer Intel-powered Macs, you can buy a copy of Windows from Best Buy or wherever and install it, then use a program on your computer called Boot Camp to run it.

Speaking as a Mac user, however, I find the concept of putting Windows on there a bit distateful...kinda like doodling on the Mona Lisa with crayons. But that's just me. (My own personal solution: Buy a PC separately to use for gaming purposes.)

Crime Zone is incredibly cool. The description is correct that you really must play it to appreciate, as with any game as surreal as this one.

Also I am a Mac user, and while I love my Macs at home, they are old and do not support Intel. However since we cannot afford to get a newer Mac, we have an older PC laptop that run XP so we're set as far as casual gaming! I understand how Mac users may feel it is "distasteful" to install Windows on their machines but I see it as adapting to the times. If I'm not mistaken, on the newer Macs you can choose to boot between whichever OS you want, so as long as you have your Windows antivirus etc in place you can have the best of both worlds!

(Sorry for the "derail." Resume normal gaming functions!)

I just played Crime Zone. Surreal it is! I'd like to hear more feedback on it from players. I need more info.
