Weekday Escape

elleI almost forgot it was Wednesday! I got a little too caught up in something new I've been trying: "being in the moment." Apparently, people who study these kinds of things have come up with the idea that all this modern lifestyle—internet, phones, social media, and the like—have abbreviated our attention spans and evolved our brains to constantly need new stimuli. That could be why stories like Cheryl Strayed's Wild are so compelling; staking out a "peace" of the wild, escaping the trappings of modern life, is not an uncommon dream although fewer do it than dream it. Still, who wouldn't feel a little anxious leaving home without a phone in hand? How comfortable would you be without internet for a month? Sure it's important to be aware of surroundings and appreciate a slower pace. Yet, as I'm always saying around here: Escape games? They're the good way. Folks who escape-the-room on a regular basis, you're used to looking closely at your surroundings, noticing small details and perhaps even a few clues. You already have immense appreciation for a more relaxed, touristy pace through life just as you usually prefer relaxing, mediative games. So it's okay to get lost in thought as you play these next three escapes from Tototo Room, FunkyLand and No1Game. There's no hurry, no time limits, and no finish line: Just an open door into the world...

Fruit Kitchens No.18: Pomegranate RedFruit Kitchens No.18: Pomegranate Red - As you can infer from the title, seven pomegranates are your key to the door key in this latest from FunkyLand, who eschews the usual overabundance of whimsy for a scene right out of House Beautiful. While the lovely red "rock apple" fruit is aesthetically pleasing by its own merits, this kitchens charm is less effervescent. Mostly a straight-forward endeavor, the challenge relies on subterfuge: a couple necessary items are well-hidden while, without a changing cursor, it's a bit harder to figure out how things operate around here. More and more I long to see what FunkyLand could create on a larger scale but, meanwhile, Pomegranate Red is a pleasing sojourn whether you rush through in 60 seconds or spend a leisurely coffee break on it.

Find the Escape-Men 141: EM Bucket ChallengeFind the Escape-Men 141: EM Bucket Challenge - In this latest hide-and-seek-with-green-guys from No1Game, you have been issued a dare of sorts, the baton has been passed to you: Fill a bucket with ten escape-men to complete the challenge or your buddy will never let you hear the end of it. And so, trapped inside a rather banal room, you're to search it for out-of-the-ordinary clues and any other suspicious area where escape-men can hide. Here you'll find many typical No1Game idiosyncrasies with a bit of No1Game uniqueness in the puzzles; they feel a bit more inventive, the presentation is creative and requires a bit more than simply finding a code as you must think about how to use it as well as how to best employ your inventory. As always, there is a jovial story to tie it all together.

Button Escape 30Button Escape 30 - There is a certain offbeat jubilance found in playing a Button Escape by Tototo Room. Perhaps because of the hand-drawn graphics or the characters who are now becoming familiar to us. And it's fun to seek-and-find the eleven hidden buttons while solving codes and completing a slew of adventure-esque tasks. This episode is exactly as you'd expect if you've played these before. Although some discomfiture comes in an inconsistency (if it's not edited out) regarding how you acquire a certain item. At the time of this writing, there's two ways to do it. One way might leave you clueless about the kitty in the tree. That's as much hinting as I can give. So if you also get stuck, restart or try checking here for a few more clues.

Hmm. I'm playing the EM Bucket Challenge, and I've got

seven Escape Men and an empty bucket. I cannot for the life of me figure out the glow-in-the-dark code on the XYZ poster. Anyone got a hint, please?

The code has two separate parts. Realizing that will make solving both parts significantly easier.

Try looking for something red that you can interact with like the plant, and then think about how the letter Z is connected to the number 26.

EM Bucket Challenge Walkthrough:


Time to set up a bucket challenge! I wonder if escape men are cold.

Looking Around

The door view contains what looks to be an escape man sign that you can't reach, a red mat, and a strange plant.

To the left, there is a TV and a safe that wants a three digit combination.

Left again, and there's another safe that needs a key, a small mouse hole, and a strange picture hanging on the wall.

The final view has a fridge and microwave.

The Fridge

Open up the fridge to get a banana. No reason not to eat it, so look at it and click on it to get a free banana peel.

The freezer is locked for some reason. But there's no keyhole or combination lock. So there must be somewhere we need to look to find out how to unlock it.

Check the right side of the freezer and hit the switch. Then grab the frozen EM. I guess this one's cold, at least. Unfortunately, it doesn't count to your total like this.

That microwave might be handy.

Stick the frozen EM in there and turn it on. Spin around the room a bit until you hear a loud noise, then investigate. But where did the little guy go?

Click the plate a few times until it breaks, and grab Escape Man 1.

The Mouse Hole

The safe view has a suspicious mouse hole to the left side. But it doesn't look like you can inte-wait was that?

If you wait long enough an EM will run out of the hole! You can't catch it with your hands, so you'll have to find a way to trick it.

Drop the banana peel in front and wait. Once it slips, look at the left side of the safe and grab Escape Man 2. Notice the hole he leaves in the safe.

The Big Safe

Take some time to look around the safe.

Grab the screwdriver from the right of the safe. Did you notice the hole on the left? If not, you should investigate the mouse hole.

Click on the hole a few times and break the safe apart! Grab the bucket.

What's in the bucket though? Why, it's Escape Man 3.

The Painting, Part 1

So what's this painting about? It has the letters X, Y, and Z on it, and each letter has a series of green dots suggesting a direction to draw something.

This is referring to the plant by the door. There are nine leaves, and if you imagine laying the letters on top of the leaves...

Starting with X, follow the green dots in the order given. If it helps, imagine the leaves like a phone keypad, and press them in this order: 753, 158, 971. The bulb at the top will open up and reveal Escape Man 4.

The Painting, Part 2

I wonder if there's anything we can do with the plant bu-whoops. There's the light switch.

Look around to notice that the painting now has some stuff on it that wasn't there before! But what does it mean?

The trick is to work out that the numbers at the bottom and the red circles are related to two different puzzles.
The red circles:

These seem to be like the green circles from before, but they won't work on the plant. Maybe there's something similar you could manipulate instead?

Try the mat in front of the door. You can fold up each corner, so do it like with the plant. The order is upper-left, lower-right, upper-left, upper-right, lower-right. Get it correct and Escape Man 5 will be waiting for you under the last corner.

The Numbers:

The blue question mark suggests the blue numbers on the wall safe. The Z means 26, so what could X and Y mean in relation to that?

It's their place in the alphabet! X is 24, Y is 25. 24x25+26 gets you 626.

Grab the Miracle card. It promises you two for one! Try putting an Escape Man on the left, and like magic, watch Escape Men 6 and 7 appear before you! Make sure you get all three EMs off the card.

The TV

At least the TV turns on without a remote, like all good TVs should. But it looks like you can't actually watch anything until someone pays their bills.

Good thing we have our phone. Call the number and get them to take money from... someone's bank account. Maybe yours, maybe not. Now reach into the TV and grab Escape Man 8.

More Escape Men, This Time On TV

The news is boring. Let's watch something else.

Turn the TV on (if it's still on the news, turn it off and on again) and watch the shopping channel. Once the clip finishes, grab a neat Escape Man 9.

The Escape Sign

That Escape sign above the door seems like it's missing something. But you can't seem to reach it...

Did you get the bucket? Try flipping it over and placing it in front of the door. But you can't interact with it...

If you have the screwdriver, unscrew it and find out why the sign seems so empty: Escape Man 10 is slacking off!

Your Fifteen Seconds of Fame

Usually this is the point where all the escape men combine, but not this time! There must be something else to do.

Well this is the EM Bucket Challenge! Grab the bucket if it's still on the floor, and dump the escape men into it!

I love how every Fruit Kitchen game has

an entire fruit in a can. Nothing else in the can, no juice, just one entire, unpeeled fruit.

Okay, I cannot for the life of me get the "human" clue in Button Escape 30.

korvar - me, too. I think it must have something to do with the fact that

if you remove the "human" part of the kanji symbol for 6, you get 1.

But that is not helping me much.

Ah, the Power of Post! And some random clicking :)

Although currently I'm still confused about "human" :)

Assuming you've opened the top safe...

On the view with the table and the sleeping friends, click the wooden slat indicated in the picture in the top safe. Huzzah!

That slat unfolds to make a little bridge that helps you rescue the cat. Which gives you a key.

Opening the glass cabinet thing gets you... actually, I'm not sure what that is. But it lets you untie the string of the rolled-up banner. And that gives you the clue to open the lower safe.

Read the left-hand side from the bottom up - 十日 and the right-hand side top down - 三日. Then look them up in the handy-dandy table on the wall.

Korvar, you've certainly got the approach correct. The reasoning behind it is...

...when you unroll the banner over our two sleeping friends, you read the two symbols on the left of the banner from the bottom up and that gives you "10th" (as per our translation sheet on the table); and you read the symbols on the right from the top down - but notice there are three symbols on the right. You have to ignore the symbol for "human" which is the lambda-looking thing, and then they read "3rd". Then going back to the corn harvest chart, the tenth harvest is 95 and the third harvest was 15. Giving t you the four digit safe code.

Button Escape 30 All Answer walkthrough
Sorry for chinese in the walkthrough

Suit lock (colour lock)

Get a paper cutter and a clue for wood plank

Saving the cat

Click the second rectangle from the left in the room scene (scene with scroll and table)
Click the plank in the inventory
Click the plank to flip it over
Click the wheel part
Use it to the cat
Get the key from the neck of the cat

"早春"early spring scroll --- The blue locker

use the Key to get the cutter
Use the cutter to cut the rope tied on the scroll
For those don't know how the human works

if you remove "人"from "春" you can get "三日" / day 3/ 3rd day

For those don't know the whole puzzle works

For the left hand side, if you read the word "早" from bottom to up, you can get "十日"/day 10/ 10th day.
And for right hand side, if you remove "人"from "春" you can get "三日" / day 3/ 3rd day

check back the corn harvest board, you can get 95 for "十日"/day 10/ 10th day and 15 for "三日" / day 3/ 3rd day



Get the extension wire and see how the oven works...

Cook the popcorn

Use the paper cutter to open the papercard box
See the gift card on the lower right corner
Get the popcorn on upper right
Connect the extension line to the microwave/oven
Put the popcorn into the microwave/oven and close the door
click the buttons to cook the popcorn with oven for 12 minutes

Upper left, Middle, Bottom*2

Get the cooked popcorn from the oven
Put the cooked popcorn on the table

All button locations

6. behind the paper on the table(need to move it to see the human first)

11. After putting the cooked popcorn on the table, click the giant button.

Finally, click the open and then click the door twice.

For some reason it just WILL NOT let me open the 4 colour safe, despite having seen all the clues.

Not sure why.

Who keeps whole pomegranates in a can? Not even any juice. Completely defeats the purpose of a can :P


I've never had trouble with these fruit escapes. I'm embarrassed to ask, but

how do you open the cabinet that is missing the knob?

My inventory is full with everything having been used, so I'm not sure how it is possible.

YES!! A green-man and a button game in the same week!!


I enjoyed all of these! For the Button Escape, I definitely think the "human" puzzle

had a case of too much information? I was expecting to have to add something to the number given on the sheet hanging on the wall, but it seemed to just be there to inform you that the symbol meant "human". I don't know anything about writing in kanji, so I don't know if the human symbol was needed (for grammatical purposes I guess?), and the dev added that hint to give some explanation to non-Japanese speakers... or if it was something they added to make the puzzle seem less straightforward, in which case it felt unnecessary! But that's my only qualm with the game, I do love the Button Escapes.

Oh, and the ending for Escape Men was hilarious!


I feel proud! Pomegranate Red is the first escape game I've ever finished without any hints! Yes, I know it's a tiny, simple game, but still... I feel warm and glowy inside. I *get* to. (smiles)
