You are Victor the Tenacious, bravest, strongest, and most intelligentest knight in the whole kingdom. You have been tasked with rescuing the fair Princess Sonia from the Black Dragon Urquel. Oh yeah, and you've let your faithful squire tag along for the ride too. Seriously though, he's not much of a squire: always solving puzzles and combining inventory items rather than smashing things gallantly. But hey, maybe he'll learn something... just as soon as you get across this moat. Urquel: The Black Dragon is a humorous piece of interactive fiction, designed in Twine by the most excellent David T. Marchand.
As with most Twine works, in each section you will be presented with a piece of text and one or more options to click to advance the story. As per usual, you may save or load the game by copying or pasting the URL of the current page. As will quickly become apparent, however, the twist is that while the narrator of the story is Victor the Tenacious, you are in fact choosing the actions of his faithful squire, actually doing most of the work. This leads to a hilarious disconnect, when the two are separated, and especially when the squire is considering perhaps being not-so-faithful after all. A few out-of-place swear words and some translation errors from the original Spanish version make for occasional annoyances, but overall, Urquel: The Black Dragon is short-but-funny interactive yarn that fans of fantasy humor like Discworld or Help the Hero will definitely want to venture through.
Great game !
I've found 4 endings, is that maximum ?
I've only found three endings
where you escape on your own from the dragon, where you kill the knight, and where you go home with them
. How do you get the fourth?
There are four endings, and which one you get depends on two factors. The first is how many times you choose a 'contrary' option. Choose none or one and you get branch A; choose two or three and you get branch B.
Branch A:
The second is whether you choose to escape or to fight Urquel.
Escape:
Victor is killed by Urquel. Sonia remains unrescued. The squire is haunted by guilt for abandoning them.
Fight Urquel:
Victor and the squire kill Urquel. Victor marries Sonia. The squire is made nobility and lives a quiet life.
Branch B:
The second is whether you choose to escape or to kill Victor.
Escape:
Victor kills Urquel, then tracks the squire down. Victor marries Sonia. The squire is executed.
Kill Victor:
The squire kills Victor. The dragon, in its gratitude, conquers the kingdom and installs the squire and Sonia as leaders of the new republic.
Glad to finally see this show up here!
