Daring, dazzling, and adventurous... who wouldn't want to be jo99's Miss Libellule? She's dealt with The Queen of Snakes and The Earl Octopusor, and now in this latest surreal point-and-click adventure, she's tackling The Mother of the Bird Men. "But Dora," I hear you whiffle, "birds are cute! How dangerous could this possibly be?" Well, maybe the budgie you make cute Vines with is harmless, but when you're journeying to the Valley of Despair, chances are these ain't your average parakeets. To play, just click around to interact with things and explore, but beware... only "easy" mode, which you can choose when you first start the game, will give you a cursor that changes to show what's interactive and what isn't. Many items can blend into the stylistically busy environments, so try clicking on everything, and keep your eyes peeled for symbols and clues. Place your cursor over the symbols on the right side of the screen to open the menu where you can save or load you game, or change the audio. Objects in your inventory that have already been used will still appear there, but their icons will be darkened and unselectable. Don't forget to try combining items you're carrying!
jo99 is one of those developers whose games are always immediately recogniseable thanks to their distinct visual style. While the sheer amount of surrealistic detail in each scene can make picking out what you're supposed to interact with difficult, they feel vibrant, alive, and unique in a way few other games can match, with their riot of colours and abstract imagery. Like Miss Libellule's previous adventures, playing The Mother of the Bird Men is part trial-and-error, and part cryptic clue-spotting. There's a lot to be said for the way jo99 can really make you feel as if you're stumbling your way through the ruins of an ancient civilization, trying to decipher strange mechanisms and puzzles, but the game does occasionally feel like it swings towards a little too obscure, especially given how many items it weighs you down with. But while it's easy to get overwhelmed by everything you see and are given, once you start moving methodically room by room and really taking note of your surroundings, you'll find the information you need is often hidden in plain sight. With an eerie yet beautifully atmospheric soundtrack by Kronsilds and a ton of surprises and mystery, The Mother of the Bird Men is a wonderfully weird adventure that's worth every moment of your time. This may very well be the last we see of Miss Libellule, but it's far from an unhappily ever after.
Play The Mother of the Bird Men
Thanks to Questioner and Nico for sending this one in!
I managed to clear the whole thing on Normal, completely unassisted. It was certainly... something.
Argh. I have the
red/blue arc + tree
, which is, I think, close to the end....but no idea where to use it.
Nevermind, figured it out.
I'm stuck in he same place, rainmist -- where did you use it?
@Billy-o,
did you manage to get to
the room where the 3 crystals are?
i have no idea what color combination i should be looking for to solve the puzzle behind the tree. i assume it contains
the piece that will allow me to cross the river.
it's either that or get past
the bird vortox.
i currently have these active items:
-the book
-the green and red crystal scrolls
-the red semi-circle
-the left half of the green square
please help
@Krizpy: yeah, this one's a little tricky. You have to
reuse an item. Can't figure out where? This is a huge hint, so open with caution:
the location is a reuse as well
Hi, Coffeeteamix! Do you mean
the room with the tree, the bird throne, and the... chandelier?... where you can place three gems and enter three shape codes? If so, yes, I can access that room. I've placed all three gems in it, but the blue one is not yet activated.
@Billy-o,
OK, yeah, activate the blue crystal first. It's in
the fish room
You are already better than when I first played. I didn't notice the arrow to get to the crystal room. Had to check a forum.
When all else fails. Yes, of course! Dora said, "don't forget to try combining items you're carrying!"
!!!!!!!!!!! thank you SO much
also, i found a glitch that lets me into the room behind
flying lizard man before you solve the puzzle. there's a clickable patch of pixels to the bottom right of it
how do you get into that room
where we gotta keep the gems? :( and i got all of them activated... weird, right ? i just cant find the room and i've been searching for it for the last half an hour!
Before clicking into the red or green looking rooms to your left, use the "down" arrow on the page.
thank you ! :3
Do you mean the flying lizard man that looks like a cross between a fish and a lizard? He is standing to the right of an impossible puzzle with six spinny parts with six buttons that spin two at a time. I hate these types of puzzles.
Can you be more precise about location of Pixels?
Thanks!
I finally had to give up. I managed the flippy spinny fish lizard puzzle. I made it all the way to where the gems are charging and the symbols match with the clues. I put together the red on one side and blue on the other side ring thing ... but it won't let me place it on the middle part where the amulet with the tree goes. And I pressed the black and white spiral button.
I have no more room in my inventory. There are six items in inventory that can still be used. The clues for charging the crystals - 3 of those, the red blue ring, and two round amulets one of which is the tree amulet that goes in the middle of current puzzle.
I spent many hours on this one. I gave it 5 stars anyway because it was fun until now. Apparently I am the only one with this problem and this game really deserves 5 stars.
It never fails ... Before I closed the game that I had invested so much time and enjoyment - I located a site that had a lot of clues (even though I should have figured this out myself from here ....
If you get the point in the game that I was - don't give up yet.
Earlier someone mentioned combining things in your inventory... click on item one and find the second item and click it too. This will very quickly make a new third item.
I mentioned that I had the red and blue ring thing - that I had because I combined a red half ring with a blue half ring...
Combine one more time with the other thing...
Combine the red blue ring with the tree amulet
that was soooo much fun! normal mode, no hints, glad i played it when i had some time otherwise i would have gotten a wee bit frustrated... love love the graphics and the general bazzarro atmosphere! thanks for a great game :)
I can't find
the red crystal scroll
It's in the room
with the flame on a pillar to the right and a bird godess perched on the corpse of a man.
Just below the pillar.
And where is that?
It's the furthest point of the red area.
Past the room at the top of the stairs.
You'll need the first hint of the book to get there.
The room has one mirror, add the other.
You also need to get light from the bird.
If you don't have the torch from the top of the stairs, you'll need to get it.
@Coffeeteamix My trouble is how to
reuse an item. Once I use it once, it becomes inactive so I can't select it to use it a second time. What am I missing??
Ah I see
you need to pick it up again
