The Happy Escape 9

DoraHands up those of you who would love to take a vacation in an "Escape Hotel", especially one designed by Tesshi-e? Well, as luck would have it, that's exactly the premise of The Happy Escape 9, and if you can find all the coins hidden around the room, well, who knows what wonderful things might happen? To play, after first switching the language to English on the main menu unless you can read Japanese, just click to move around the room, use items, or zoom in on things... don't forget to be diligent, since no changing cursor means you'll want to click everywhere so you don't miss something you can interact with! Oh, and whatever you do, no matter how relaxing everything is, and how comfy that bed looks, do not lay down and go to sleep... we've got Happy Coins to find!

As you'd expect from a place that calls itself the "Escape Hotel", every surface of your oh-so-cozy room seems to be covered with puzzles, locks, codes, and items of all kinds... and because it's a Tesshi-e game, you know it's going to be lovingly crafted with care. It's not just that the game itself and its atmosphere is beautiful, although it definitely is with that chilltastic atmosphere, beautiful furniture, and warm, inviting hues of orange and gold. It's that Tesshi-e knows exactly how to make puzzles whose solutions hide in plain sight without being obnoxiously vague or obvious, while also offering up conundrums that will require you to really think things through. The Happy Escape 9 is a little bigger than you might expect, with a lot of ways to view and move around the room, so that it might be easy to miss a few things your first time around. You may actually want to jot down certain clues and information as you find it, to make it easier to keep track of things and work certain solutions out. There are a lot of layers going on here, and it's easy to get overwhelmed by all of it, though once you slow down you'll realize most puzzles aren't as complex as they seem. The Happy Escape 9 isn't going to shatter any records for lengths or complexity... it's simply as solid and enjoyable an escape game as fans have come to expect of Tesshi-e's talents, making it the perfect escape from your own daily drudgery. Now... where can I make my reservation for that hotel?

Yay! A new Tesshi-e!

And, of course, I'm stuck. I have a handle, a screwdriver, spade and triangle shape keys, and a balloon. I've used the spade key, but can't find anything the triangle key unlocks. Just aimlessly clicking around now.

Guzzle August 11, 2015 12:30 PM replied to Thorzdad

Where did you find the balloon?

You can attach the handle to a new place:

On the side of a big piece of furniture, using the screwdriver...

Reply

Balloon is behind the loose painting with the clickable corners. The triangle key is used in a place you haven't yet unlocked.

Reply

Found where the handle goes (there are some very dark shadows) and things started falling into place after that. I now have 9 Happy Coins and am once again stuck.

I've used all four keys and the two Mr. Birdies. Used the balloon. Used the knife. Did the Escape lights. Kind of clicking around again. I'm wondering if the Mr. Birdies get re-used?

For the coin you probably missed:

I love tesshi-e escapes. And getting out without hints is always so satisfying!

One thing I got through guesswork but don't actually know the reason for:

For the shaky painting, what indicated that you should use the octagon from the idol head clue?

VoxPopuli42...

Notice the shape in the painting itself, made by those black corners and the sides of the painting?

Actually, it does (though the access card is called an "escape card" in that section). Make sure you've opened all the sections fully!

I found the navigation rather frustrating.

Typically the "Happy Escape" series features only one ending.

Once you get all 10 Happy Coins... you get the one gold Birdy Coin and the exit Heart Key.

Have you wondered why you need the Birdy Coin, when you can just end the game and escape with the Heart key?

I notice the Birdy Coin ...

can be used to turn on the water in the toilet. But why?
I find it curious why the developer included the Birdy Coin... perhaps there is more?

Out! No hints, with the Super Happy Coin! Another stellar outing for Tesshi-e.

Reply
JetSetVegas August 19, 2015 7:37 PM replied to MeowMeowMan

The Super Happy Coin is simply your final reward for finding the ten smaller Happy Coins and knowing where to use them. I found it a nice touch and a sly wink to the other Tesshi-e games that require you find the Happy Coin to get the best ending.

JetSetVegas August 19, 2015 7:38 PM replied to jem99b

If you found the Super Happy Coin it's the only ending you need. You did find it, didn't you?

It is a nice touch of logic that the symbols on the clock correspond to the months that each zodiac sign represents.

Am I just way off base or is this a really bad walkthrough? E.g., info given on what to do on the deck way before the deck can even be reached, explanation as to what to do with the water balloon with no indication how to get it. Sorry if I am being jerky but it seems like these things should have been obvious.

Reply

I'm wondering why would anybody complain about walktrough to the game not available from April 1, 2019. Do they have some secret ways how to play it? Tell us, please!
