Daydream

JayI think it was just yesterday that I was looking for a new point-and-click to post following a string of arcade-type action games. We like to feature a broad range of game genres to satisfy all tastes, and yet many times we are limited by what's becoming available. Thanks to the very busy folks at Gotmail in Japan, we have a brand new escape game to play today and it's available in English, too.

The Daydream starts off with a familiar text message from your son to come play hide-and-seek in his room at the top of the building. "I want you to find me," he writes. But when you get there the room seems different, and he doesn't seem to be around. You turn to find the door has locked behind you(!) Is this a new twist to the game, or something else...? It's time to escape from The Daydream!

Play The Daydream

Kind thanks to master_flea for word about the new release! =)

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

I have already completed this one, with the help of FunnyMan and Sara (in the site's IRC channel). I've got a walkthrough prepared...

The Daydream Walkthrough

NOTE: This walkthrough contains game spoilers. If you would rather have gentle hints and nudges in the right direction, check out pineapple's "hint-through" below.

  1. Click on the right set of face boxes. Click the right/top one to open it. Click inside the drawer to look in side. Click the front of the drawer to close it. What's that beside the drawers? Get the tank.

  2. Zoom back out and go right until you've got the red table centred. Click in to the plate. One of these things is not like the other. Get the sandwich.

  3. Investigate the sandwich. What are those red things? Get the 3 Tarot Cards.

  4. Investigate the Tarot Cards. Click the tank card for a cut scene to tell you what to do with the tank. Go do it.

  5. That means put the tank on the shadow next to the toybox and click it. Watch the cutscene. Take note of which drawer gets hit.

  6. Click on the tank and open it's lid. Get the skeleton Keyring

  7. Go to the drawer that got shot and open it. Get the robot within.

  8. Go right until you have the table centred again. Look at the window in the top left. There's something hanging there. Click it. It's a chain. Hang the Skeleton there. Click it and watch the cutscene.

  9. Go to the hidden compartment (under the TV) you've just been shown and get the next robot.

  10. Go back to the table and move the twinkies on the plate. Get the memory card. Now move the plate and get the cable.

  11. Click on the chairs. on the very top of one of them is the mobile phone. Get it.

  12. Put the memory card in the phone.

  13. Go to the cabinet under the TV. On top of it is a cradle to put the phone into. Put the phone there. Connect the phone to the plugs at the back with the cable.

  14. Click on the phone and start the game. Click to fire.

  15. Click the screen and be told you might be able to move it. Start clicking the base of the tv until it moves. Get the key.

  16. Use the key on the rightmost cabinet to get the last robot. Investigate the robots and click each to make them transform. Combine them.

  17. Use the digger to the right of the toybox. Click it. Get the dice it digs up.

  18. Investigate the dice and rotate it. Notice anything strange? There's two fives and no four. Click one of the middle dots of the fives and one will come off.

  19. What was that noise? Sounded like a phone. Go check it.

  20. An email tells you to look at the window. Check the window near the toybox. You should find a mark. Put the sticker there. Click it and watch the cut scene.

  21. You've got the dice back. Investigate it. Now go look at the door. Click the sign to go to amazon.com

  22. Now use the dice on the lock until something falls.

  23. Go look at the light to the left. It turns. Turn it. Now click behind it. Get the coil of wire. Use the wire on the dice. Get the device.

  24. Use the wire on the hole at the back corner of the device. Now it's a key.

  25. Use the key on the door and escape.

Hint-Through, Part 1: Getting Familiar With the Room

Play hints that are general to this game:

  • When something is completely used, it "greys out" in your inventory. This is helpful two ways: you know how many empty spots remain, and you know when you have or haven't used something to completion. Keep this in mind.

  • Not everything that yields a clue, yields it immediately.

  • This hint-through assumes that you will click and examine everything that can be examined or explored, as you first enter a scene. Also, this hint-through assumes that you will examine an item when it enters your inventory.

The Wall With Smiley-Face Drawers & Colored Cabinets (First View)
The Smiley-Face Drawers

  • Examine all the drawers, natch. (Wonder why that one won't open? Doesn't seem locked.)

  • Did you look into all the drawers you could?

  • Spy anything while you were looking?

  • Specifically, after you closed a drawer?

  • If you look in the drawers and don't find anything, you might still spot something you couldn't see before.

  • Something to the right of the drawer unit.

  • There's a toy tank on the ground.

The Colored Cabinets

  • Hmm. Mostly empty. One locked.

  • Find some gadgets on top of the cabinets? Wonder what those are for.

  • What is that above the cabinets? Some sort of screen? It's enormous.

View With Table and Chairs
There are many directions to look here. Be thorough.
The Table

  • Hmm. Plate of food. Can you get any of this? You'll need it for Energy Points. Just kidding, that's a different game genre altogether. :)

  • What can you take? Did you examine it?

  • How closely? Did you examine it closely enough?

  • Are you sure?

  • You'll know when you're done examining the sandwich. There will be an indicator.

  • So, if the sandwich is still "lit" in your inventory, look at the sandwich again. Closely.

  • The sandwich produces

  • three tarot cards. Did you examine them? They have a message for you.

  • Each card correlates to something you can see in the game.

  • The message from the tarot cards seems to start at the window.

  • You can go directly to the window if you want (See hints at "Reading the Cards", but be sure to come back to the table. There's more to a meal than just a sandwich!

  • Anything else here?

  • Did you check out the plate fully? There's more to do here.

  • Nice buns.

  • Look under all the buns.

  • Is that it for the table?

  • Are you sure? There's something else here. Rhymes with "table."

  • Look under the plate.

  • You should have a red memory card and a black TV cable by now.

The Chairs

  • Those crevices on the backs of the chairs are odd.

  • Deep enough to hide something.

  • Something you need to take.

  • There's a blue cell-phone on the top of one the chairs.

  • Of course you examined the phone closely, right?

  • And found... a slot for a memory card.

  • Wonder where you can get a small memory card?

  • Uh, that would be your inventory. (or, if you don't already have a memory card, go back to the table.)

  • Phone plus memory card doesn't seem to do much, does it? Maybe there's another application for these items.

View With Box of Toys

  • Lovely view. Doesn't seem like there's much to see here though.

  • But look closely.

  • Are you holding

  • three items from the table yet?

  • The tarot cards hold a message that will help you here. If you don't figure it out, check out the hints at "Reading the Cards".

The Wall with the Door

  • If you click the sign on the door, and something pops up, don't worry.

  • You don't need that website for the game.

  • Examine the door. Don't you want out?

  • Someone who really wanted out would try the door handle multiple times.

  • Click the door handle repeatedly. You'll get a message.

  • Did you find what fell? It's down there, somewhere on the floor around the door.

  • Examine the light.

  • Look behind the floor light next to the door.

Hint-Through, Part 2: Solving Puzzles

Reading the Cards

  • So you found three tarot cards: Sun, Tower, Chariot

  • Did that Chariot look like anything familiar?

  • It was a drawing of a tank, with a red circle around the cannon.

  • Do you remember how the scene changed in the game when you found the cards?

  • You were shown the window.

  • Specifically, a glowing spot on the window.

  • Shaped sort of like the sun would be if it appeared right there in the sky.

  • And it beamed light onto a "tower", of sorts.

  • Which seemed to reflect light on... a spot on the floor.

  • So maybe the "sun" and the "tower" were pointing to where the "chariot" should go.

"The Chariot"

  • So, you've put the tank on the spot on the floor where the light beamed.

  • If you can't remember that spot exactly, click around in front of the toy box.

  • When the tank is in place, take a look at it.

  • Something happens! The tank does exactly what the card conveyed.

  • Surely that kind of pounding would have some effect on the drawer.

  • Especially a drawer that was really tight before.

  • Look inside the drawer.

  • You should have a new item in your inventory now. And you know what to do with new inventory items.

  • Cool! A Transformer.

  • Wonder if there are more drawers to be shot up by the tank.

  • Are you sure?

  • But, if you were done with the tank, I wouldn't be asking, huh?

  • Find something else?

"The Chariot Driver"

  • So, you've got a skeleton keyring.

  • Too bad it doesn't have a key on it, huh? Since you've still got a few locked doors.

  • What does one do with an empty keyring?

  • You could hang it somewhere.

  • There was a hook.

  • If you didn't see it, maybe you weren't looking closely enough.

  • In all directions.

  • If you go back to the table and chairs, and look in all directions...

  • ...specifically, up...

  • You'll find a hook on a chain.

  • The Chariot Driver has a message for you. Examine him. Watch him.

  • His eyes will light up and show you something.

  • On the wall under the big screen.

  • Examine that.

  • Cool! Another robot. And you know what to do with robots.

Taking Inventory

  • So, that TV cable must do something.

  • Where could it go?

  • Don't make me spell it out for you.

  • L-O-O-K U-N-D-E-R T-H-E T-V.

  • A gadget with three sockets? A cable with three prongs?

  • Not much happened, huh?

  • The cable should probably be plugged into two fully functional gadgets.

  • That front gadget seems empty.

  • Like it's waiting to cradle something.

  • Like a cell phone.

The Mini-Game

  • Now that the phone is in the cradle, you've checked it out again, haven't you?

  • Seems to be "working" a bit better than before.

  • Shall we play a game?

  • The video game appears on the big screen TV above you.

  • Try not to lose. If you do lose, play again.

  • When you win, it tells you "game clear." And gives you a message.

  • A pretty explicit one: "maybe I can move this television." So, go for it.

  • You have to click all around to get the TV to move.

  • When it does move, it yields an item.

  • Taped to the back.

  • When the TV flips around, there will be a key taped to the reverse.

  • Where could you use that key?

  • The front door is still locked, of course.

  • But that would be too easy. Where is another locked door?

  • The cabinet under the TV.

Transformation

  • So you've now found three robots.

  • And examined them to see what happens.

  • Do you remember the Transformer toys?

  • What did they do to get you to buy more of them?

  • Yep. The smaller Transformers could connect to make bigger robots.

  • Play around with the three small robots until they make one large item.

  • Cool! A digger. What can it dig?

  • There's no dirt here. There's certainly a pile that could be dug through, though.

  • Use the digger on the toy box.

  • What does it find?

Roll the Bones

  • So you've got a purple dice. (Technically, a die)

  • Where can you use that?

  • Can't find anywhere to use or place the dice? Maybe something is wrong with it.

  • Examine the dice closely. Does all seem to be in order?

  • It's not.

  • The die is incorrect. Check the numbers (did you know those dots are called "pips"?).

  • Check the five.

  • Or, "fives" plural.

  • The center pip of one of the fives is actually a sticker.

  • A small, round, sunny-yellow sticker.

  • Which probably goes somewhere small and round.

  • Like that spot on the window.

  • You have to do something to "unlock" the spot.

  • An item in the room will deliver a message to you. Then you can use the sticker.

  • Check the phone again. And get ready to pay attention.

Hint-Through, Part 3: The End-ish.

Warning: Stop right here if you didn't just "place the sun" and watch the results. You aren't ready for the final puzzle.

Did anything unusual happen? (You know, other than puzzle pieces parachuting from a UFO that just slid through a building.)

Look around.

Interesting, why is the dice back in your inventory?

And you still haven't used that wire.

Use the wire on the dice.

Okay, another device. What does it do?

And why do you still have the wire?

Use the wire on the device.

A key! What remains to be unlocked?

I seem to be stuck, I have

memory card in cellphone in cradle, a sandwich, and a tariff card.

I just can't seem to find or be able to do anything! I never was very good at point and click games...

I got a few things more.

a TV cable
a skelleton

i didn't find anything like that.
But there is a link to amazon.co.jp

OK. I'm really, really confused.

The unused stuff I've got right now is:

The skeleton keyring and a red, transformed robot

I've managed to use the cellphone to

play the mini-game and get a message saying "maybe I can take the TV with me" but nothing seems to affect the cellphone/cable/memory card anymore.

The only thing left in the room that seems to respond to anything at all is the light in the corner. Help!

Reply

I'm in a similar position to Gryphon...

Got 3 tarot cards... they have shown me places, but these places do not seem to respond to anything... argh

Reply

the skeleton can be used ...

you have to hang it up somewhere

Do you know where you get the sandwich?
click on the plate

Hey, paranoid...I've got everything you have, with 2 exceptions:

I don't have the TV cable; where did you find it?

and

I have a small piece of wire that fell out of the door.

Reply

where do you hang it up?

Reply

the tv cable

is hidden on the table
but how did you got this small piece of wire from the door?

Reply

Piece of wire:

You click on the door handle until it says something fell. Then click the light on the floor until you see the shadow. Click behind the light to get the wire. I don't know what you do with it, though.

Reply

ok, i found the wire

for the skeleton:

you have to look closely on the screen with all chairs

its in a high place ;o)

I'm having trouble finding the cord and I have no idea where to find the skeleton! Help please?

All I have left usable is the two robots and the peice of wire and now I'm clueless.

Is there nothing in the box of toys and/or behind it? Or are my clicking skills deficient?

Ok... finished it... not bad... stupidly frustrating... For some reason when you click on things at some points it does not do what it is meant to, and then you try again a few minutes later after frustratingly trying everything else and it works... I'd love to play an escape game where main antagonist does what you'd expect him to do instead of refusing to...

how do you

move the tv? no matter where i click on it, it just says, "hmmm, maybe i can move the tv."

Reply

It's probably due to all the puzzle imagery, but I can't help but think back to Banjo-Kazooie. I keep expecting to find an actual easter egg with a question mark on it at some point.

Reply

Yep...these are the items I have gotten and used

dice (where I got the sticker), cell phone, memory card, three tarrot cards, the finger sandwich, all three robots (turned them into the digger and got the dice), the key, the skeleton, the tank, and the cable.

the only things I have left are

the wire and the sticker from the dice

mixedmetaphore:

Click repeatedly either at the top or the bottom of the TV (the gray areas) and it should flip around

I finally beat an escape game with minimal help XD I should warn, however, of a game-ending glitch I encountered toward the end:

When the UFO takes off in front of you, do not try to move away from the window! If you do, the scene will change accordingly, but you'll miss another cut-scene that's vital to finishing the game. Luckily I'd saved before answering the phone and I could restart easily.

Another great game by the Gotmail group; I always look forward to their enjoyable puzzles :D

Deimos:

the dice has one 5 to much. but could one of them be a 4?

for those, who are stuck with the sticker in their inventory...

Don't you know the shape of the sticker from somewhere?
Maybe a window?

Reply

Hey - I finished the game last night -- for the first time EVER, I beat a Gotmail game without a walkthrough! I owe most of it to luck....
Anyway, when I completed it, I still had two spaces left open in my inventory, which I think are supposed to be

the two puzzle pieces you see parachuting.

Anyone get them? Is there a different ending?

Reply

I cannot find the two robots, the skeloton key and I am stuck could anyone please help

Reply

More on the sticker...but the shape is only part of it...

mobile devices are great for taking quick pictures

Reply

ok i finished it. cant wait for the ending to come out.

Reply

Wow, I really didn't like that

you couldn't put the sticker on the window without looking at the phone first. Not logical at all.

I never would have guessed that without spoilers.

This is fun, but I cannot find the skeleton, and have only found the blue robot. Can someone give me a hint?

Reply

Where's the skeleton?

I clicked all over the toybox and nothing is happening there.

Reply

Linda,

Have you found the tank?

if not....

Be sure to open and look INSIDE every drawer, then try to close them...sometimes opening and closing stuff gives us a different perspective on things

if you have found the tank...have you figured out its role in the game?
if not...

some games come with instruction cards that when we look at them closely, we can better learn how to play (and solve) games

then look at the tank again...closely

Jason Harper February 13, 2008 11:37 AM

I just rated this game a "1"...

when I realized that there are at least two positions of the dice in which you can see the sticker, but the one I found first arbitrarily disallowed doing anything with it. If something I'm supposed to take is IN MY HAND ALREADY, then I should DAMN WELL BE ABLE TO TAKE IT!

Maybe some day Gotmail will realize that it takes more than beautiful visuals to make a playable game...

Reply

I am just starting the game, so I'll work on a hint-through alongside, unless someone else already has made one (if so, please comment here and let me know so I don't waste time! thanks!).

[Edit: I'd love to have another one of your hint-throughs, pineapple! :) In fact, for each one you do for these point-and-click games we feature from time to time, I'll reward you with a free game from Big Fish to sweeten the deal. -Jay]

Reply

For those just starting

Things in the room and things in your inventory have multible uses. Be sure to use your items until they turn grey.

you will use the sandwich three times

Reply

how do you

turn the robots into the digger? i got all three

Reply

nevermind i got it xD stupid of me

Reply

So, the "third one" is behind the locked drawer? That would mean that there are two others that are hidden.

Also, will the "opening and closing" hint take ten seconds straight of frantic clicking, as the door did? (Already being angry when starting the game didn't help matters)

Reply

Possibly spoilerish warning:

the "Tank" involves a terrible pixel hunt, possibly involving a lot of clicking on the same thing over and over again. Check around the drawers with faces on them

Reply

On the opening and closing....

All opening and closing does is let us see things from a different perspective...that is why you have to look IN each drawer

nothing is going to fall out of a drawer from opening and closing. And it will not take "10 minutes of frantically ..." doing so.
BTW Folks,
Other than one little snafu at the end of the game

having to do with a pesky sticker and a cell

, I think that this is the most playable and logical game of the entire GotMail lineup. And is not a pixel-hunt click-fest. Comments?

Frustrating. Very little logic involved in this one. You have to pixel hunt a few times, which is terrible. The ending is terrible as well.

Reply

How about a couple hints for those of us just starting?

Here is what I have:

I have the tank, the memory card, and the sandwich.

And I have tried:
With the Face-Drawers

opening them, looking in them (though only the ones on the top can be looked in) and opening them in pairs (both of each color without opening another) . . .

And also tried opening the doors of the cabinets. Nothing inside. Yet at least?

Reply

yea, i found skeleton and all thre robots........... but dont know what to do with them

Reply

quite frankly, this game stinks. too much pixel hunting just takes all the fun out of anything. and there really isnt any logic to any of it. and why the heck does the game start by saying that her sons room has cars lined up everywhere and cans stacked on each other if there arent any actually there. or are the cans the boxes? if so they should really hire a translator.

Reply

I found the sticker and the ufo came etc and I saw the parachutes but now I have no idea where they went

Reply

tv question

So, uh.. the shiny greyish square in the blue cabinet *is* the tv, right? 'Cause I've been clicking all around it like crazy, and I'm not getting anything..

Reply

Hint-Through, coming soon!

Reply

Oh. Nevermind.

I don't know what the shiny thing in the cabinet is. The TV is the thing that I thought was a chalkboard. Seriously, what?

Reply

ok now i have pin and dice left, and where is the sticker

Reply

Hmmm as far as Gotmail games go this was a bit of a dissapointment. Short and easy. But! As I only had half an hour to spare before I got ready to go out this was a perfect time filler. Oh and I played it with my 5 year old son watching and he loved the tank and the digger. Anyhoo back to the monotony of everyday life.... if only someone would lock me in a room with weird clues, I'd be in heavenly bliss..... (drifts off into a daydream).

Reply

O and keep an eye out for pineapples hint-through if you're stuck.... pineapple did a superb hint-through for vision last week. Better than a walk-through any day.

Reply

Agreed, hint-through was awesome (even though I saw it only after I finished the game, it's way cooler to not get spoiled completely, but just a little hint where to look).

Reply

Still can't find the skeleton or figure out the tank's role in the game.

Reply

Woah, woah, WOAH!

I'm quite disappointed with some of the comments that people have left here. I mean, being frustrated with a game is fine, but blaming on the game is a bit too easy, when it could just as well be one self not having grasped the concept of the game, or only having spent 10 seconds looking. It honestly seems like that from some of the comments.

First of all, those who have played a few room escape games, know that one of the first rules of any such game is to look everywhere. Absolutely everywhere there could possibly be something hidden. This ISN'T supposed to be like real life, or realistic necessarily, it's a game. You can push some boundaries with a game. So having to look through all the drawers makes perfect sense, you end up doing that anyway whenever you play a room escape game, if you have some experience with them.

Second of all, there is no pixel hunting in the game at all. Look at the word, pixel hunting. There is no place where you have to click a certain pixel to go to another screen or point of view. All the things you can click on, have a big area to click. And as for the tank, that just goes along with the aforementioned rule, look everywhere.

Third of all, not putting the sticker on the window until you've answered the phone, also makes sense. You hear the phone ring when you look at the sticker, so of course you'd check what you got on your phone right away. And then look at the mail, you will have a better idea of what to do at the window, because you might not have zoomed into it previously.

As for the cans and what not, read the introduction, then play the game. Does it seem like everything is normal? I mean, are UFOs an every day occurance? Maybe (which I guess we won't know until the next game) that isn't the son's room. Maybe the UFOs changed parts of it. And considering what you find behind the TV, I'd say things are definitely not normal in that room. I can see that it could also just be a mistranslation, I just find that highly unlikely.

As for the dice, it does in a way make sense to me that you need the sticker on top to be able to take it, that's how it's like in most games. Besides if you click on the sticker in the only other way of seeing it that I've found, it just turns over to the top, and then you can take it anyway, so it's really not a big problem.

I agree on one things having been said though. Like sillybuttons said, this is rather easy compared to most other Gotmail games.

A, if you mean the blue cabinet with the yellow handle, I don't think it's anything. It just seems to be the back of the cabinet being lit up by either the sun or one of those floor lamps.

Meugh, you raise a good question. Although I'm not sure there's supposed to be anything at those two spaces, I can ask around about it.

I really liked this one. The only downside was...

spending forever trying to figure out a relevant secret from the other website only to discover there wasn't one. Just an ad I guess.

Why, oh why do point and click designers insist on revealing items only by clicking on some object in the room several times?

I'd find a stupid piece of wire on a door handle wihtout having to mess with it a few times

The logic to this game was pretty bad once again. I wish gotmail would be a little more realistic in how to view places in the room, and interact with objects. They clearly have the talent to make challenging games without having to resort to random clicking.

I had to get quite a bit of help to finish this one. I have to admit that I'm always disappointed in room escape games when

...you have to click on something some arbitrary number of times for something to happen without any feedback. Leaving aside that the TV looks like a chalkboard (esp. given that there's no picture on it except when you zoom in), how the heck should I know to click on it a zillion times? "Maybe I can move it" indicated to me that I can, not that I have to click it a bunch without response.

It's certainly gorgeous, though!

Reply

I'm not really a fan of Gotmail, and this game is no exception.

By clicking on the sandwich I had found two tarot cards, clicking ten more times revealed nothing more, so I was of course stuck at a certain point. After reading the comments here I knew I needed a third card (which I already suspected). But it really took like twenty more clicks before it showed up. That's just not funny anymore. Same thing goes for the door handle.

The rest of the game was pretty easy though. But polished graphics alone don't make it a nice game.

Where
is
the
skeleton??

I have "looked" and "clicked" ALL over the chair screen and there is NO skeleton there. I looked up "HIGH" and found a chain hanging down .... w h a t .... yank it?? How? I have tried to hang everything I have in my inventory and NOTHING hangs on or comes from this chain thing.

So far I have:

the cell phone and memory chip and tv cable - used memory in cell phone and cell phone on holder and cable on that thing behind the cell phone holder.

Who would have guessed that the HUGE thing on the wall is a TV!! I thought it was a large chalk board. I am humbled.

I played the game on the "chalk board TV thing" (so far that has been the fun part) saw the message about moving the TV chalkboard and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked all over that TV chalkboard ... and finally got a key?

I used the key on the cupboard that required unlocking and got a blue robot?

I have a plastic sandwich - not used - or maybe the robot eats it?

I found the tank right away. It has been the easiest thing to find so far but use it where on what?

I also found some kind of wire thing that is straight with a coil on one end. Found that by getting frustrated and clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking and ... okay you know... the door and something fell out and just by pure luck I clicked on the right place on the floor and light and there it was.

What is the purpose of the toy box. Yes I have clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked .... oh never mind - not because I figured anything out but because I have just about given up on this game.

Don't you just hate the "never mind" people? You know the ones who ask about something the same something you are desperately wondering about and the next message is.... NEVER MIND I FOUND IT and that is it???

Oh well. Deep Subject. But don't never mind.

walk through - please?

Tank?

Skeleton?

Can you look inside the bottom drawers?

I hate room escape games, they are incredibly frustrating, I'm no good at them, but I still have to try. I echo the "multiple clicking = annoying" comments and usually find that things are hidden in places I've tried to look but not found the right area (The left button on my laptop is broken from all the clicking on these games, I had to swap the buttons over)

@ 4red3s: Your comments echo my experience with this game. I am currently sitting at my work desk, and the game made me return gladly to my work after playing three or four minutes and finding an equal number of items. That is either a huge compliment to the enjoyability of my work (er, not really) or it means that the game is not very enjoyable (all right, I'll add "for me, at least").

Hey it is a game about a daydream, so having

UFO's and Parachuting Puzzle Peaces etc…

is kind of funny. I didn't like having to click

the door over and over again to get the wire.

Only found it by accident. I really liked

the dice, you could easily miss the extra dot.

Maybe this one was easier because I happened to "get" a few of the clues quickly, as well as they always have

a chip to put in the phone etc.

At least they didn't go the way of holding a switch open with a huge beetle! It was fun, free and a great way to spend some time over coffee

My frustration did not get the better of me ... yet

About the skeleton...

Well, I looked at what stuff I had and when I got to the sandwich I got hungry. It may be plastic but it looks pretty good. I wondered what was inside it?

Someone had mentioned earlier that the sandwich is used 3 times. So maybe there are three ingredients in it?

The stuff that looks like it might be meat or bologna might be something else.

It isn't bologna. It's Tarot cards - 3 of them and you find them one at at time.

Click on the Tarot cards in your inventory and you will see three cards I can't remember the first one, but the second one is "The Tower" and the third one is "The Chariot". I don't remember exactly how but I think I clicked once on each card and suddenly there was a little cut away that ended up in front of the toy box looking at the floor. Then the game came back with the focus on the chair and table area. So I hit the arrow button to go to the toy box area and there is a shadow on the floor that I don't remember being there. So I started the clicking thing again. Noooooo. But I stopped when I realized that I still had the tank - unused and wasn't the third card The Chariot with the picture of the tank?

Maybe put the tank on the floor.

at the point of the shadow...

This only happens once so I am trying to get this in order...
As soon as you put the tank on the appropriate place on the floor, another cut away scene and the tank shoots the little drawer that is stuck and it gets "X's " for eyes and everything turns black. The scene ends I think and the tank is still on the floor. Now what?

Is there anything in the tank?

Who or what guided the shooting?

Maybe open the hatch? (The door on top of the tank)

Oh my stars a poor skeleton soldier. He looks awful.

Quick take him to the chain hanging in the window beside the chair screen. Yes he hangs there. He is a key chain and this makes sense to me. :D

I am a little fuzzy here because so much has happened since the sandwich. But I think there is another cut away scene.

The skeleton eyes start glowing with lasers pointing to the left.

When you back away from the skeleton soldier and go left there is a new lit up square shape on the wall under the TV Chalkboard. Click on it. Oh my goodness a robot.

Oh and remember that little sad faced box that was stuck and would not open? Well, since you blew it up maybe check it again. It looks pretty good after getting blown up.:)

Anyway, hope this helps those of us that get frustrated at the over clicking and the Never Minders.

Reply

Didn't like clicking on that a bunch of times, either, did you? Is that the best they could do?

Reply

Okay, it all came together in the end. still not keen on room escapes, this one looked stunning, nearly as good as the one a while ago in the hairdressers (never did finish that one - even with the walkthrough).
Puzzles were okay, it was just that I couldn't find the one item that had me stumped.

and the fact I thought that the room behind the tv was going to be significant held me up as I couldn't move the tv again to get to it :(

Reply

This is the only thing I hate about GotMail games: they have very weird navigation. I expect to click and hunt for objects, but not to move or look. Right now I can't even look in every 'box drawer' that I open. Is that intentional?

Reply

Just one more thing and then I have to save and leave...

I am going to RESIST looking at Pineapples hint through (Bless you Child)

And thanks to gladi8or2 for the helpful tip that I didn't see until after I had spent way too long writing out my adventure of "where is the skeleton?"

Reply

I've played just about every room escape on "Jay" so far, and the GotMail ones have been among the best.

If you have all three robots think about how they might go together. What do they create? What could be "moved" in the room to find something else?

Transform each robot before putting them together to create the digger

Use the digger on the toybox. Get die

Take sticker from the die.

Take cell phone from cradle and check your e-mail.

Go to window and place sticker over outline.

Click on die and use pin in hole where sticker came from.

Use the pin on the new device to create the key. Leave the room.

I'm playing this game but I found myself unable to really concentrate on it - it just lacks something that could catch me. Something, I don't know what, that Vision, for instance, had, something that tied me to the screen and kept me wanting to go on. Here I don't feel like that. The game is the usual good GotMail quality, but still... :(

Reply

It kind of annoys me (not that that's bad, I love gotmail games!) that Gotmail prefers to create new games over translating old ones to english ("The Scrapper" is a good example). While I have successfully completed the games not translated, I feel cheated out of the experience of playing the game in my own native language because of the fact that there might have been hints in the text of the game that I may have missed due to not knowing the language. In fact, I resorted to walkthroughs to figure out where in the game to go next. I do understand that it takes time to successfully translate games, but it's been months (with three games released) since "The Scrapper" has been translated.

However, there's always the fact that Gotmail is releasing new games already translated for both languages at the same time, which wasn't always how Gotmail used to release games. I do understand that there are people that don't speak either language, and I'm not trying to offend anybody by saying that english can be translated easier than Japanese. It's not a matter of the words are shorter or have more exact definitions, but a matter of only Japanese keyboards can type Japanese. Many other language-specific keyboards can type english (mainly because they use the same characters)

I just have one question: why is "JAPANESE" in the beginning in english? shouldn't it be in japanese? A sizable majority of people with a native language of english who don't learn other languages don't know what "ENGLISH" is in japanese, so why should the japanese be forced to learn a word in english?

I hate how a simple little idea of mine turns into a huge rant. Oh well.

Reply

@ EMDF: Nobody is forced to do anything. It's a game people play out of their free will... I don't see how Gotmail "cheats" anyone by not translating older games - if you don't like the Japanese version, don't play it. Apart from the fact that it is definitely not logical to put "Japanese" in English, it is clear that most Japanese internet users know the meaning of the word.

Well, I made it OUT!

I did resist looking at Pineapples hint through until I had finished. But I had lots of help from everyone here. By the time Pineapple had written the beautiful hints I had gotten past my worst part.

However, if you are just starting this game, I highly recommend Pineapples well written and intuitive hint through. It will remove a great deal of frustration and sore mouse hand from desperate clicking.

Thank you Pineapple.

I HOPE there is a sequel to this. The whole point of playing Hide and Seek is to find what you are seeking and the son is still out there ... somewhere.

P.S. I really wish we could go into that room that is behind the TV Chalkboard. That happened so fast, I really didn't get a good look. :)

A couple comments about the walkthrough. If someone else has already pointed this out, I apologize: I haven't read all the comments on this thread.

You don't need to follow the link to Amazon. I have pop-up blockers and hence never went there and I was still able to win. Of course, I suppose it's possible the game still pays attention to whether or not that spot was clicked... Also, you don't need to use the dice on the door to make the wire fall. I got the wire before I got the dice just by clicking on the door a lot.

Yay, 27272th to finish!
Got to love gotmail. Always so...abstract.

*er-hrm* I did finish the game, and it turned out that the only part I had trouble with turned out to be the tank, after which everything fell into place. While not "clicking on one pixel", it was concealed innocuously, it didn't stand out from anything else, and I was frustratedly clicking elsewhere, trying to solve a puzzle that did not exist. While it's a moderately good game for GotMail standards, one should not start it while already angry.

I ended up opening, then closing and opening again, all those drawers with the faces in whatever order I could think up, assuming they'd left an obscure, not-too-logical sequence... and then I suddenly spotted what turned out to be the tank off to one side. I didn't know whether to curse at the game, myself, or in general.

A little late but gonna go in for a taste...

Tried to void reading the comments but saw one that said this is too short. I hope not because GotMail has been teasing this game for seemingly ever.

Really happy to see another point and click/escape game on the site though! I may have come to the genre late, it seems like these games are losing favor. I'm still in addict mode, finding games that didn't make Jay's cut where and when I can.

Reply

that was fun!! I've been waiting for a new point-and-clicker adventure so thanks jay! I played exmortis for the first time (even though it was featured on jay's site a while ago) and it was too spooky to get past the 3rd scene for me so playing this one with the toys and bright, cheery room was just what I was looking for!

The thing about gotmail's games is sometimes there's a scene that's relevant (clue finding or what have you) and sometimes.. a scene is just a scene, just a pretty picture if you will. That's the puzzle I guess and I love that!

3 cheers for Gotmail for the great work and pineapple fot another well-made hint-through! :D

I have the dice but I can't find the wire to combine it

Pineapple, you are a star! I would never have managed without the hint-through, but your hints were great and it didn't spoil the game in the way that a walkthrough sometimes can.

Thank you!

I found this one more pixel-hunty than usual. Even when I KNEW where to click, I often had to click wildly in the general area before randomly hitting the spot.

On the plot side, kudos to GotMail for giving a plausible setup (plausible within the realm of fiction), instead of just "you're in this room for no reason."

Another complaint about the excessive clicking on this one: when you are furiously clicking away at some object and manage to find something, the game tells you what you found. However, when you click again, the message goes away. I missed the message for all the tarot cards and the taped key because i was still clicking around when they were found. Fortunately, none of the messages I missed was important, but if you click too much and miss the message that tells you

to check your cell phone after you find the sticker

you will probably end up frustrated.

ALSO, maybe this is my computer and maybe it was a bug, but after I placed the digger, the game froze for about a minute and a half before the cut scene played. I came back here and started reading the discussion board when suddenly the music kicked in again. None of the other cutscenes had a problem.

actually, behind the tv:

theres an adult. Hes wearing glasses and is bald.

So im guessing its not the son.

Ya know, I didn't really click with this game. It was unusual for a Gotmail game and a bit easy. I felt a bit cheated but it's been on my mind there or there-abouts since I played it. I couldn't work out why so I just had a peek in to see what others thought of it, to see if it was just me, and i find a lot of comments on the pros and cons of the game. And I'm thinking..... well it's not so bad after all. It's had a lot more constructive critisism than most Gotmail games and surely it's a good thing when it gets fans of the genre discussing it so much. So in hindsight I think saying I was dissapointed with it was being a bit pessamistic. I was seeing the flaws such as it being too easy for a Gotmail game rather than thinking of it as more of a game for would be fans to see if these games are for them. It does have some frustrating things but hey, point and click games can be a pixel hunt or have an item hidden that only reveals itself when something is clicked a fair few times. I'll bet most Gotmail fans got that pesky wire without any hints and I'll also wager a lot of newbies to the genre did too. Why? Because who hasn't went to the door when they are stuck and clicked the handle a million times while chanting "why wont you open". Its one of the first things I did when I started playing room escape games, shucks its basically a primal instinct to a point and clicker. Anyhoo the reason I'm sharing this with you is because have been trying to get some people I know into these games for ages. They just can't make that jump from finding objects in plain sight to actively hunting objects. They seem to think the clues will be obvious rather than a vague hint. This game has a certain blend of easy and hard, blatant and shrouded that can help an amateur step up to the next level. Im not saying they will be finishing My Diamond Baby in record time in the near future but it's nice to know that I've set them on the first rung. It gives me a warm feeling inside.

I thought this game was great! I used the hint through several times but was able to figure the bulk of the puzzles out. There were way less of those "what?" moments than in other GotMail games, the only time I really felt frustrated with pixel hunting was

when trying to move the TV, I would have been stuck but good if not for pineapple... by the way I'm really curious what was in that other room!

The music was - uh - annoying to say the least, I think it's going to be ringing in my ears for days. I know that's why they have an off button but I like some tunes with my game experience if it's not - uh - xylophone. What's next, bagpipes? :-p

Great job by the way, pineapple, and great move on your part sliding Mr or Ms pineapple some free games for his effort. The Hint through was nearly as enjoyable as the game! I kept going back to it after I figured out stuff just to read how the information would be meted out. It was like squeezing your cards at a Three-Card_Poker table!

So my verdict is excellent, I hope there is a sequel or another game from GotMail in the very near future.

PS -

I did miss the message to to

check the cell phone

,
this is another time I would have been hung up without help, and again it was really nice to get a hint instead of just instructions what to do.

BTW - all you people who keep posting how these games are "too easy" are starting to give me a complex! I am not known as a dull witted guy, and one thing most of these games aren't is "easy"!

And you know, it's been at least three days since a game was posted where someone started keeping a diary and then was violently murdered... what gives?

Are those bagpipes I hear?

Reply

Jac, same here -- until I saw someone mention here that

the phone rings, apparently, after you find the sticker,

I would never have thought to check that and just assumed it was sort of arbitrary.

(also, thanks! glad to have helped)

Reply

hi ! where i could find the pin & wire?

Reply

A hint - don't turn the sound/music off.

I was clicking around the room looking for the next clue when apparently it was to answer the ringing phone. I missed this as I had used the game's mute button.

Reply

how do you combine the robots?!?!?!?!?!

Reply

Nothing happens when I click on the sign.

Reply

How oh please how do I move the tv?!?!!? I feel like I've been clicking around the edges for ever and all I keep getting is the "Hey I bet I could move the TV message". Argh!

Pineapple, you rule btw! Your "hint through" for Vision made the game. And Hooray Jay for rewarding Pineapple. I hate using the walkthrough when all I want are a few hints, so this is perfect

Reply

LOL! Of course, as soon as I post - I get it :)

missed the room though :(

Reply

Nothing happens when I click on the sign.

I could not seem to be able to put the tank down, no matter how many times I clicked. Am I doing something wrong??

Reply

This is the FIRST Gotmail game I completed without help. The Transformer was a nice touch.

This was awesome!

I just wished there was a sense of closure...

Serendipity February 19, 2008 10:10 AM

Do certain things need to be done in a certain order? I saw what I needed to do with the tank, but when I do it nothing happens. When I proceed to pick it up or re-examine it, the screen goes black. Any ideas??

Reply

I was disappointed, only because something like

clicking the door handle over and over

or

clicking all over the TV

aren't things I generally find intuitive to the game. Also there were very few actual puzzles, it was mostly just a guide to the end. Also, as I've noticed with the Got Mail games, the room movement is often confusing. Not one of my favorites, I'm sorry to say.

How do I combine the darn robots?!?!?!

one queston
WHERE IS THE SON?!?!?

Reply

The last couple of Gotmail games all took a month before they were released after one another. I hope there's a new one coming soon!!

Reply

This one was okay. I have to admit though, it started getting fanciful when

the tv flipped to reveal another room,

and it got really weird when

the ufo whizzed by with puzzle pieces in parachutes.

These gotmail people don't really like closure, do they? In Nigepico, who knows what happened there, and now we don't even

have a hint about the son's whereabouts!!!

UGH! THIS IS

really

FRUSTRATING!!!

No seriously. I can't figure out how to combine the robots. Can someone tell me how? Do I drag and drop? Click around? spin? Help me out!

Reply

Excellent little game, completed it in just under half-an-hour. I disagree with people who say it's too much of a pixel-hunt/not logical - the puzzles really flowed for me, it's one of the only point-and-click adventure games I didn't had to resort to a walk-through to solve! Although maybe I'm becoming more skilled...or, more likely, less tempted to use walk-throughs.

I'm curious, when is the new Gotmail game coming?

Reply
deafdudette May 5, 2008 8:33 PM

I know, I know... I'm such a scaredycat... but whenever room escapes use cutscenes or moving stuff, especially with a "mysterious" theme... it scares the "whatever" out of me... Yeah. I hope this game is not sound oriented, too.

Reply

What would I have done without Pineapple's hint-through? I'd be stuck with a tank, and that's about it! Thanks SO much! (P.S. Your "Vision" hint-through was amazing too.)

So does anyone know if there is going to be a sequel?

how do i combine the transformers?!?

Reply

I can't combine the robots either! Has anyone figured it out??

Reply

Because some have problems with combining the robots here goes:

Start by examining the red robot, click it so it transforms. Do the same for the blue and yellow robots. Then examine the yellow robot, click the blue robot on the right, and then click on the yellow one again. Now click the red bot and click the yellow with the blue on top.

Has the sequel come out yet? Any news about one in the works?

Reply

The ending fell flat & disappointing - made me feel as though I'm missing something for a good end. Any other endings found?
