Surreal Escape

GrinnypAs a room escape fanatic, you inevitably see certain things over and over again. What happens, though, when you begin to get just a little tired of escaping from various rooms, restaurants, and underground spaces? Do you stop escaping for a while, or do you long for something completely different? How about trying to escape from a Dali-esque landscape where coin-operated washing fish fly by and friendly skeletons reward you for cleaning their tombs? Welcome to Surreal Escape, from the twisted mind of Frederico Rutenberg of Esklavos fame.

grinnyp_surrealescape_screenshot.pngSurreal Escape is a mini-escape that takes place in just two scenes, but what scenes they are. At first the puzzles seem very random and completely Dada, but eventually you will begin to see the internal logic as you escape the madness using whatever random items you can find laying about in the beautiful landscape. The controls can seem a bit clunky with needing a separate combine tool to mix together some of the strange, strange things you pick up, but it is essential as most of this point-and-click adventure can be solved with some (okay, rather a lot of) creative merging. It's time to try something different, unique, and definitely off the wall as Surreal Escape is a singular and refreshing way to take a mid-week break.

Got a walkthrough, pretty short but sweet

Surreal Escape walkthrough

  1. Get the two dark green leaves.

  2. Go to the other screen (with the skeleton). Get the other two dark green leaves.

  3. Get the feather on the rooster-man's head and the stick protruding from the green vine next to the skeleton.

  4. Combine the feather and the stick to get a bow.

  5. Get the scissors from the skeleton.

  6. Get the bottle.

  7. Go to the first screen and use the scissors on the end of the green vine with stuff dripping off of it.

  8. Combine the drips with the leaves to get the menthol candy.

  9. Go to the other screen and give the candy to the elephant head. Get the blue key that he head drops.

  10. Fill the bottle with water from the elephant head.

  11. Use the water on the mound of dirt behind the skeleton. Get the fruit.

  12. Go to the first screen. Use the bow on the violin.

  13. Quick! While the head's mouth is open, cram that fruit in. Get the red key and the arrow.

  14. Combine the bow and arrow.

  15. Go to the second screen and shoot the sun with the bow and arrow. Pick up the coin.

  16. Go back to the first screen and use the coin on the "Washing-Fish." Click the fish again to pick it up.

  17. Use the fish on the tomb to clean it up.

  18. Go to the second screen and click on the skeleton. He gives you a skeleton key.

  19. Go back to the first screen and use the skeleton key on the tomb.

  20. Click on the newly opened hole to receive the seed. Click a second time to receive the grey key.

  21. Plant the seed in the pot, obviously.

  22. Clicking the butterflies causes heads and eyes to appear, and rotate. The second butterfly in each row changes head shape, the third changes eye shape, and the third rotates the head entirely.

    • Check out the second screen for a hint on shapes: Dog with narrow eyes facing left, Human with triangle eyes facing left, and a fish with circular eyes facing right

    • Top to bottom = Right to Left

    • The correct code is, starting from blank with all the heads facing left (yes, they rotate even if they're not visible):

      1. Two clicks on the second butterfly in the top row;

      2. Four clicks on the third butterfly in the top row;

      3. Three clicks on the second butterfly in the middle row;

      4. Three clicks on the third butterfly in the middle row;

      5. Two clicks on the first butterfly in the bottom row;

      6. One click on the second butterfly in the bottom row;

      7. One click on the third butterfly in the bottom row.

  23. Collect the gold key.

  24. Go to the second screen. Match up the keys with their respective, same-colored, keyholes on the portal. The End.

Where are the hints supposed to be for the butterfly tree? I did everything according to the walkthrough, being left with only the bow and arrow, and the scissors, both been used.

ThemePark:

at the second screen there are 3 heads, starting from top-left: dog, human, fish

Not really.

On the left screen there is a crow, a fish (which is no more since I used it on the tomb) and a human head. On the right screen there is an elephant, a skeleton and a rooster. I can't see a dog anywhere.

ThemePark:

The dog is on the sign on the cloud, and the head and fish are on the columns, above the keyholes.

How do I combine things?
