Carmel Games tends to be known for short, happily silly point-and-click adventures, but Skip Around the World - Finland was a surprisingly educational romp through actual real world locations that paid homage to local culture and landmarks while having fun with itself. Skip Around the World - India has now arrived, and a familiar fellow has just landed in the country and is desperate for a taste of some local cuisine from one of the best restaurants in the area. Too bad he ignores the sign out front and winds up getting the owner's samosas eaten... and those samosas were to be presented to the Prime Minister! Skip promises to set things right and save the owner's reputation, and he's off looking to gather all the ingredients to make new ones. If only the markets weren't all closed...
As usual, just click on things and people to interact as you move around the map. Your cursor will typically change whenever it passes over something useable, and don't forget to try combining items in your inventory! Skip literally needs to trot all over the country looking for the ingredients for those precious samosas, and in the process, you'll visit a lot of iconic landmarks and learn a little bit about the country and its culture. Skip seems to know the bare basics, so you'll pick things up through him as you go, as he learns about various Indian foods, spies some famous Bollywood actors and actresses (and helps out a fictional one), and more. Most of the puzzles simply come down to figuring out what somebody needs and bringing it to them, which isn't particularly difficult once you've visited everywhere you can go. Where Skip Around the World - India stands out is in its presentation, as it weaves in tidbits of knowledge throughout the gameplay that highlight pieces of Indian culture and history, while also having some lovely scenery to boot. You'll have to look up a lot of the terms and locations if you want to learn more about them, however, since the game tends to just toss out names and places without much else, and it's still on the short side, and players looking for more involved puzzles might be disappointed. But for a brief, fun, lighthearted visit to another country, Skip Around the World - India is worth a play, and hopefully not the last of Skip's globetrotting adventures we'll see.
Quite frankly a mediocre and ignorant game, perpetuating stereotypes of snake charmers (illegal in India) and wandering cows.
Hi there! Sorry you didn't like the game. Are you sure about snake charmers being illegal? I did some reading, and it looks like while it was made illegal to own snakes in 1972, the government has recently begun to try to work with snake charmers and animal rights groups to train snake charmers to be caretakers and educators. Additionally, at least as far as I can find, it seems like a limited number are permitted to perform at tourist sites, which would actually fit with the location the snake charmer is seen in this game. :) I do think the developer has made an effort to try to showcase the culture of the country, though some stereotypes have clearly crept in, and hopefully that's something the developer will consider going forward with this series and do better.
Note that the previous installment was just as chock-full of stereotypes... about Finland. The difference is, it's not considered politically incorrect to propagate stereotypes about Finland.
I got the
everything but the potato,
and gave to the girl at the restaurant. I also have the
Lassi

Hi there! Have you
Gone to the movie studio yet? Someone there might find lassi refreshing.
I've gone to the studio but the only ones who are there are the
guard and his elephant
and neither will take the item in question.
Sounds like you need to get inside.
The guard wants clothes for his elephant. Can you find something that might sufficiently cover one?
To get inside, plainly put,
take the carpet from the restaurant and give it to the security guard. He'll let you in!
Thank you! I didn't even notice you could take
