sg6

elleTateita hasn't been around as long as some of our favorite developers, but already has come to be known for making escape games that are short and sweet, filled with logical if not particularly challenging puzzles. Now, with sg6, Tateita brings that same short, sweet and logical style into focus. Here you're in small room with few accoutrements, very little to indicate how you can break out of here, and a rather lackluster view from the window. You'll just have to make good use of the bare minimum to find puzzles to solve before earning that coveted exit key.

sg6The usual rules of escaping apply here: point and click your way around, following the changing cursor, looking for clues and figuring out how to use items, open safes and unlock boxes. That's it. Therein lies the greatest disappointment of sg6. Although the name of the game is to escape, we'd rather stick around and play a while, especially when the puzzles are so casually enjoyable; it's just enough to engage your mind yet straight-forward enough that you can relax for a brief moment before moving along. We hope to see Tateita take it a bit further someday, treating us to a few more rooms and a bit more challenge. Until then, sg6 is a move in the right direction.

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

Walkthrough:

First, the green safe.

The three switches change between different shapes. Each switch corresponds to the wall to which it is pointing; look at the shapes of the walls.

Left: outward semicircle
Bottom: upward rectangle
Right: outward trapezoid (as in the window)

Next, the red safe.

You need a key to unlock the safe.

Click on the lower left corner of the window to find it.

Now, open the cylindrical box.

The combination is on the rear wall.

Crack open the hourglass with the hammer.

Use the sand from the hourglass on the painting on the back wall.

The direction of the numbers (vertical, upward diagonal, downward diagonal) correspond to the symbols in the math problem on the face of the box.

Now, the little pink safe.

You have, in your inventory, everything you need to open it.

Fully disassemble all parts of the cylindrical box.

You should have a red coin, a piece of paper with dice, and the larger part of the cylindrical box.

Use the red coin to disassemble the hammer.

Combine the metal part from the hammer with the large piece of the cylindrical box.

Use the hex key to open the safe. Press the red button you find inside. A section of the rear wall will open.

Next, the newly revealed yellow box.

Use the piece of paper with drawings of dice along with the game board

If you start from the position of the game token and move the number of spots indicated by each die on the piece of paper, what colors do you land on? That sequence of colors is the combination to the box.

Now, to escape.

Use the key from the yellow box to open the front door. FREEDOM!!

sg6 Walkthrough

  1. You're in a sparsely furnished, tiny room with oddly shaped walls. Turn all the way around to give it a good looksee. Then, zoom in on the green safe directly in front of you:

    • Change the buttons on the safe to match the shapes on the walls, keeping in mind the positions of the walls in relation to the safe.

    • SOLUTION:

LEFT BUTTON=Left Half of a Circle (matches left wall's curved niche)

BOTTOM BUTTON=Top Half of a Rectangle (matches back wall; don't let the shadows fool you)

RIGHT BUTTON=Right Half of a Trapezoid (matches the right wall's window)

    • The safe pops open automatically when correct. Get the...

      • HAMMER.

  2. Turn right to face the window.

    • Click on the window sill to zoom in. Get the RED KEY.

  3. Then turn left twice and zoom in on the red safe.

    • Use the RED KEY to open the safe and get two things:

      • An oblong TOOL HANDLE,

      • and an HOURGLASS.

  4. Examine the blue, oblong TOOL HANDLE in your inventory. It needs a three digit code to open.

  5. Look around the room for more clues. On the wall to the right of the window is a poster...

    • There's already some blue dust on the poster. Maybe if you put more on it...

      • Use the HAMMER to crack open your HOURGLASS.

      • Then use the BROKEN HOURGLASS on the poster to get a new clue.

  6. Now interpret the clues to open the blue TOOL HANDLE:

    • Notice the squares above the number input buttons? They slant different directions.

    • Match up the slant to the numbers on the poster and do the math.

    • SOLUTION:

      2 5 7

    • When the code is correct, the lid comes off and you can get...

      • a piece of PAPER with a clue on it.

  7. Unfortunately, the tool handle is just that. Where's the rest of the tool?

    • Look under the lid you just took off the tool handle:

      • get the RED COIN.

    • Examine the HAMMER in your inventory:

      • Use the RED COIN to unscrew the red screw on the hammer's head.

      • Then, put the blue TOOL HANDLE on the HAMMER HEAD to form a new sort of socket wrench TOOL.

  8. Turn to the wall with the window and examine the pink safe.

    • Use your new TOOL to open the pink safe.

    • Push the big red button that's inside and the other wall will open up, revealing a table.

  9. Go get the yellow box on the table.

    • Examine the top of the box and see you need a four-color code to open it.

      • Look at the PIECE OF PAPER in your inventory.

      • Then, look at the board game.

      • SOLUTION:

Count from the token on the board toward the goal. Do each number on the dice separately as if four different people were playing the same piece. This gives you the four colors:

        GREEN-BLUE-RED-YELLOW

      • Enter that color code into the box, open it...

        • and get the DOOR KEY.

  10. Turn around, use the DOOR KEY on the door, and leave!

Congratulations!

Short and bland. My appetite for escape is thoroughly unsated.

I think I'm getting the "JIG effect"; this game loads to 99% and freezes.

It was a great escape snack which is all I had time for today anyway. I'm all about nice graphics.

But it's a good trainer to people like me who normally need a walkthrough at some point. I managed to do this one without a walkthrough and feel triumphant. And that's encouragement to other people to try it too.

I must ask. Why on earth can't we use that nice 90 degree handle (aka, hammer)? It had to have been solid to break anything. And it's so much easier to turn things at 90 degrees than to twist the wrist.
