Sentry Knight 2

DoraThe original Sentry Knight was basically everything you want a defensive shooter to be... addictive, vibrant, simple to master, and totes adorable to boot. So with Sentry Knight 2 here from Justin Wolf, Tyler Myers, Jason Coates and tunes provided by Kat "Dloot" Angeloni, we had our fingers crossed for more of the same... and luckily, it delivers in spades. As before, you control a brave, cute little knight cloistered in a tower and armed with a bow and arrow, while goblins, skeletons, spiders, and all other manner of nasties will try to get close enough to attack, though some do ranged damage. If they topple your tower by destroying all your hit points, you're done for, so mouse over any red potions dropped to bolster your health. Your knight aims where you point your cursor, and will automatically fire. You'll also have several spells at your disposal, which, when activated using the [1] to [7] number keys, will be cast at your cursor's location, ranging from fireballs to pools of poison and more. Enemies destroyed drop gold that can be spent on upgrades to your knight or the tower itself, but also experience points, and whenever you level up, you can spend talent points on enhancing and unlocking new spells. Monsters eat your face off? Well, if you find yourself getting trounced, you might have to replay a few earlier stages to earn more experience points and gold, 'cause it's all about that grind, 'bout that grind, and levels.

Sentry Knight 2While Sentry Knight 2 has thirteen levels, seven more are only unlocked if you pay, as are three new spells. On the one hand, developers deserve to be paid for their work, and it's nice to see a optional package that really feels like it offers a nice, solid chunk of extra content. On the other hand, that chunk of locked-off content is big enough at nearly one-third the game's total size that the game itself feels a little chopped up, so you're paying for less "bonus" content and more "the rest of the game". That being said, if you liked the original, you'll still enjoy what you get with this one. Despite the same issues of repetition and grinding, Sentry Knight 2 is a very polished and very addictive little game, and the new art design is absolutely fantastic, adding a nice bit of charm and personality. The boss battles are a welcome break to the normal mindless rush, so it's a shame they aren't more frequent, but the challenge of dealing with swarms of enemies will keep you busy for a long time. This is the sort of fun, vibrant, easy to pick up yet hard to put down game that seems like a perfect fit for mobile devices, so one can only hope we have a version headed for our pockets soon. As it stands, however, Sentry Knight 2 provides more of the colourful defense action we've come to crave, and that ain't bad by half.

My problem is that their premium content is only available via online saves at ArmorGames.com. Sorry, pals, no dice. Compile an .exe version of your game then we'll talk.

You don't like armor, or don't want to play online, or...?

I don't like needing to create accounts for every game I want to play that happens to be partnered with different websites all vying for users, not to mention it sounds an awful lot like that premium content actually requires monetary support of the developers through Armor Games rather than just signing up for tracking purposes.

It's still fairly nice without the extra content though, despite the last few levels requiring some grinding (or foreknowledge of the 'correct' upgrade/talent build to get through the game easiest).
