Primal Champions

Johnny123 Browser-based RPG games tend to be a bit of a click-fest. You're always clicking here to launch a fire spell and clicking there to use a health potion. Clicking, clicking, clicking, JEEZ where does it end?! Well Happy Ghost Studio has got your back with this epic new keyboard-only fantasy adventure game, Primal Champions, which plops you and your party into an action-packed adventure with no mouse required. Select your party of two adventurers and set out on your quest, moving to each dot on the map to do battle with hordes of goblins, pigs and general monstrosities. The game operates on a real-time combat system, having you choose targets with the [arrow] keys and press [Q] or [A] to launch your party members' basic attacks whenever their cool down counter reaches zero. Reflexes are essential, the tides of battle can turn quickly. A strong leveling system and some epic magic spell combos add to the frenetic joy.

Primal Champions Primal Champions lives or dies by its core mechanic. It can take some time to get used to. Keeping one eye on each of your soldiers' cool down counters while also choosing which target you need to kill is an exercise in multi-tasking, which can be extremely satisfying or frustrating, or both. Your characters are creatively designed and it's a lot of fun watching them turn into high-level killing machines as the game goes on. The map system also adds to the challenge of it all, having you decide whether to head back to the local health-restoring fountain or push deeper into enemy territory for one more good fight. The boss battles are excellent, a perfect final exam for all the skills you've honed on the way. The game occasionally feels a bit grind-y, but that's hardly a dealbreaker. At the end of the day, Primal Champions is a rock solid experiment in a new RPG formula, and a welcome vacation for your clicking finger.

Good idea, but lots of bugs. Several of the achievements don't properly record, but the achievements don't get you anything anyways. Other bugs:

There are bugs with some of the encounters that occur when you revisit a boss or the dwarf NPC.

As far as balance goes, the final boss was impossibly hard even after grinding to the max level of 20 (which doesn't allow you to complete your skills, by the way). Other imbalance issues:

You can revisit healing shrines indefinitely, and skip over incomplete encounters that border a healing shrine. You can revisit the dwarf indefinitely to refill your ultimate gauge. These mechanics make after-battle health and the ultimate "orbs" meaningless. You might as well just heal the characters after every battle and let the player use their ultimate once per battle, because that's the effect.
