The object of the game is simple: maneuver your red triangle base throughout a dangerous mine field to collect blue energy pixels in as few moves as you can. To direct your base, just click wherever you'd like it to go and it follows. What's the catch? You can't hit the sides or obstacles of the playfield or you lose a life.
The three pixels that orbit the base expand and contract in relationship to how far you make the base move. Click too far ahead and the orbiting pixels will stretch well beyond your original trajectory.
There are two versions of the game to choose from—The 'Original Pack' and the 'Perfect PI Pack.' Each has six initial levels and as you progress through consecutive levels without losing a life, you unlock additional levels. The Perfect PI pack seems a bit more challenging but both versions offer the same great gameplay satisfaction.
And the gameplay is addictive. Once you come to realize that you have more control over the base than you initially realize, the depth of strategy deepens and exploring the possibilities of how distance and timing impact your moves is what makes this game so much fun to play.
The look and feel is still simple, clean and easy on the eyes. The pixels that orbit the base have an eerie magnetism that is perfectly accompanied by the soothing soundtrack by Kevin Macleod.
Tonypa has many other games on his site that are just as interesting and simple to play as Pixel Field. They're all free and just waiting for you to discover them. Keep clicking!
Nice style, but the slow "life lost" sequence feels like punishment.
Oh, jeebus. Does it really have to take 15 seconds from death to get back to the level choosing menu, and then another 15 seconds from that menu to playing again? That forced delay is so aggravating it makes the game practically unusable if you're not instinctively good at it.
No offense, but you guys are really exaggerating over the time between losing a life and restarting a level.
I have to admit after a few deaths I closed the game. The level wipe sequence looks nice but I don't want to watch it every time.
might be fun if it didn't take forever to restart when you die.
It's not a thirty-second turnaround, true, but it's pretty bad. I just timed how long it took to return to play after dying and it took a little over thirteen seconds. That's pretty long for a game where beginners can easily mess up over and over again.
I found a glitch on the level select area...
Click in the white space where a level would be to select a level not yet unlocked.
PLEASE, eliminate the painfully slow restart time, otherwise I can't play passed the first level (though the animation does look good).
I beat the first 7 levels without losing any lives on my first playthrough, but I then quit. It just wasn't that fun. Cool idea, but not really any fun.
But since I didn't die I can't comment on that.
Not one of Tonypa's best, in my opinion. Tried playing the first level twice and died both times. I don't mind a challenge but, umm, yeah, this wasn't my kind of challenge.
Thank you, nate8nate, I completely missed that bug. I have updated the game now, you should not be able to select those levels anymore.
Really fun game, as usual. I'd love new level packs for some of your other games too.
Thanks, Ben :)
I would love to make new levels too but when I look at my old games, I usually end up rewriting it for new version of Flash. So it takes practically same time as making completely new game.
