Pixel Quest: The Lost Idols is a retro-themed platform adventure starring Rex, an adventurer who wears a spiffy little hat. Finding treasure is his favorite activity, and today he's on the hunt for the Golden Frog idols. It's your job to keep Rex alive as you dash through several dozen levels, each well-stocked with falling spikes, lava pits, and traps that come out of nowhere. You know, standard treasure-hunting adventurey stuff!
Our well-dressed hero has plenty of moves he can pull off in this pixellated world. Move with the [arrow] or [WASD] keys, and tap [W] or [up] to jump. You can crouch and move to crawl, as well as double jump, wall slide, wall jump and even dash in mid-air! Which methods you use to work your way across dangerous zones is entirely up to you, but keep in mind that dangerous things can and will happen, and you'll need to be able to react immediately or face an unseasonable death.
Each stage has plenty of treasures for you to collect, and if you want a perfect score, you'll need to do some acrobatics in order to nab them all and make it to the exit. Each level has three skull tokens, several triangular gems, and keys that unlock doors you'll need access to in order to leave. All of this is stashed in a relatively small space, but you can't just grab it in one run. The levels in Pixel Quest allow you to take many different paths, some a little more dangerous than others.
Pixel Quest: The Lost Idols is a lengthy and moderately challenging platform game that's great for a quick fix. It gives you plenty of freedom to do things your way, whether that be dashing in mid-air to grab skulls over a burning pit of lava, or sliding down a wall to pick up a few gems. As long as you stay alive, you'll have a great time!
It would be nice to have a button to continue talking in the cutscenes, rather than having to use the mouse, or accidentally skipping the entire conversation while trying to find a button for 'next'.
I've found a bug, in level 8, if you go under the moving platform you can slip out of the level which freezes the level. Restarting fixes it.
Why don't you try...

Can't play the game at all - a "Sponsored by FOG" logo appears over the game and I can't interact with the underlying game.
(Firefox 8, Flash 11.1r102, Windows 7)
[There should be a "Continue" button that appears on that screen. Sometimes it's in the top left corner, sometimes in the top right. If you don't see it, try refreshing the page? I'm fairly certain they mess with the button (and maybe not even display it sometimes?) to get you to click on their logo and visit their site. I call shenanigans on them. -Jay]
Aside from an incredibly buggy double jump mechanic whenever you try to double jump while moving hard left or hard right, this is a really solid game. But because the double jump is so unpredictable, it makes stages like level 16 needlessly frustrating. If that issue could be resolved in an update, I'd have no complaints!
So you die when you touch a spike from the side. This doesn't make sense to me and adds an unnecessary difficulty to the game.
It's a really good game with tight controls.
My only problem comes from attempting to jump off of walls in the opposite direction, which is really tricky to do under the control system.
Good game, mind.
For anyone having trouble with double jumping, it is because it recognises you falling off the ledge before doing the first jump, and once you fall you can only jump once. To avoid this, jump a bit earlier, the jumps aren't so hard that you have to be pixel perfect.
I ragequit after attempting uselessly to wall-jump in one of the first tutorials and failing the level everytime because I wasn't able to wall-jump.
Chris: I found it much easier to leap off of walls using a gamepad as opposed to the keyboard.
Oh my, that double jumping is awkward. No Super Meat Boy.
This is as good a page as any to say that the "turn lights off" feature is GREAT. Thanks guy.
Oh my gawd level 46 was awful, finished now with all idols. I am proud lol.
Uber fun, but a little buggy. Freezes in a couple spots. I even fell through the bottom of the frame?
Got to level 56, the temperamental nature of the wall-jumping maneuver has finally reduced me to tears of rage. Shame, because apart from that, it's a great game.
