Owned By
What do you see when you look in the mirror?, Articallosaurus begins by asking us in an innocent-enough seeming question. You are presented with three options in the form of shapes, showing you a square, a triangle, and a circle. And as if to forebode something ominous, an eye appears on the screen, blood-red and boring into your skull in a somewhat less than friendly way.
You then set out in a desolate, two-dimensional world to look around, all the while a small band of circular, fuzzy entities chasing you down. Each time they manage to bump into you, another one of those eyes seems to follow you, staring at you in their creepy, unblinking unison.
Owned By is a fascinating game not so much about individuality but class, and the relationships that it creates. Eventually, it will force you to confront the question of what you are willing to do in order to make yourself "happy." Despite the slight façade at the beginning, Owned By doesn't really punish poor platforming, or your alter your choices of endgame if you happen to get caught a number of times. It does, however, create the aura of being surreal, thought-provoking, and just a little bit terrifying without any of the usual jump scares.
I got bored trying to find the white sparkly thing after about four times. I wish there was some hint which direction to aim for.
barbara, if you hold spacebar a directional arrow appears around your icon that points to the next sparkle.
Unrelated, but does this seem like a sequel to Loved to anyone else? Is it by the same developer?
