Weekday Escape

KarmenOnamis seems to be a portmanteau of the French words for "friendly" and "one". As soon as you are trapped inside, you might start to wonder just how friendly people really are. There you are, with no map, no guide, and no inventory. Onamis4.jpgYou don't have the ability to turn around or look back. There's not even a clue. Well, except that scrap of paper on the floor. Maybe someone was being friendly, after all.

After the first Onamis escape game left us wanting more, the second Onamis game had the distinction of being in the first-ever link dump. Unfortunately, while the second installment was well-received in the comments, Onamis 3 slipped underneath our radar screens. Now, as a fourth game joins the series, the mystery of Onamis seems to be getting deeper.

Onamis 4 invites you back into the shafts of an abandoned power plant. Your only chance of escape comes in the form of scarce clues and codes. If pieced together correctly, and entered in the right place, you'll find yourself closer to escape—or closer to the core of this mystery. As gasses hiss from every vent, you'll need to solve puzzles that will seem quite elementary, at least after the third or fourth try.

Each of these games is deceptively simple. With clean, white walls and lack of inventory, it is easy to be fooled into thinking the solutions will be neat and easy. However, without paying close attention to detail (read as: blatant pixel hunting) and careful written notes, it is easier to get stuck than to move ahead. As you ascend each level of chapter 4, there is no obvious way to return to previous levels, outside of restarting. Even the most careful escape artist may need to try more than once. Alone, Onamis 4 is perfect for a coffee break. Together, the chapters are a challenge. So, if you happen to have a weekday free this week, fill your holiday with the entire series.

Jeu! That is,

Play Onamis 4

Or, if you prefer, start at the beginning.

Cheers to Laynix for suggesting this one! =)

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

Walkthrough:

Room 1

Start off by either taking a screen shot or sketching the card on the floor, the one with the faint background image with a line running through it.
Now write down the long number that's on the paper on the floor, it's

5276448731902

and write down the 5 digits on the wall

KQPVT

Now let's get out of here, take a look at the numbers on the card on the left of the door. Each series of numbers are part of the code, all you need to do is add the digits between the decimal point for each of the three series in order to determine that the code is

9
7
14, which you will enter as a 1 and a 4.
Code = 9714

Click on the center of the doors, just above the middle, and enter the code, the lock will disengage and when you go back to the main screen you can click on the doors and they will open. Now shut off the valve and click the top of the ladder to go to room 2.

Room 2

Once again, either take a screen shot or sketch the tile on the floor. This room is very easy, just look at the pad on the wall on the left, click on the letters in alphabetical order, noticing that the leter "G" is the missing letter in the upper right hand corner. Once you have entered in the code correctly click on the ladder to rais it, go up the ladder into room 3.

Room 3

Start off by, you guessed it, taking a screen shot or sketching the tile on the floor. Now take a look at the cable on the floor, it says "HNMSQ" The code from room one says "KQPVT" Notice that the letters from the code in room 1 are 3 letters past the code from the cable? Following that logic the code to get out of this room must be 3 letters beyond the code for room 1, try

NTSYW

Click on the right of the screen to enter room 4

Room 4

Now you'll need that code from the floor of room 1, in case you forgot it's

5276448731902

Enter the code into the pad by making sure all the numbers are touching. You'll see that "527" runs vertically from the top of the box, "644"next to it, etc. Just enter in the whole code and the fan will stop spinning. Now click on the lower middle of the fan to remove the first blade, then click on the next three blades to make room to leave the room, but don't leave just yet. Look at the first fan blade you dropped on the floor, there's a code on there, take a look at it. Either take a screen shot or sketch the images from the fan blade, they tell you the orientation and order you'll need for the final room. Leave through the opening in the fan blades and head into room 5.

Room 5

Last time, screenshot or sketch the tile on the floor and then take a look at the keypad. I took each of the shots and put them into photoshop, where I put them in the correct order and then rotated them as necessary to get the number sequence. The number sequence is found by following the line and seeing where it starts, changes direction twice, then stops. This gives you the four digit code as it would be keyed in on a 1-9 keypad from top to bottom. The codes, in order are:

2985
1567
4529
3548

Once you have entered in the codes in the correct order the bars will slide open and you can leave!

no idea where to begin...

Reply

I'm stuck on room 3.

I have two 5 letter codes from the first and third rooms, and a panels which seems to want those codes, but neither of them do anything. What simple thing am I missing?

Reply

Nevermind, I just figured it out.

Reply

i found a spot to enter numbers , but....

it only has 4 digits

Reply

This game makes me feel stupid because I have no idea what to do.

Reply

i agree what the code to the first room?

Reply

For the first room:

There's a plaque with 3 lines of numbers that look like IP addresses. If you look at them carefully, you'll notice that each segment adds up to the same number on each line. So, using 36.72.54.81 as an example, 3+6=9, 7+2=9, 5+4=9, and 8+1=9. That should give you the code.

Reply

i give up. i can't even get past room 1.

Reply

JR, that should give me the code but it isn't. I'd figured that out and it gives three numbers of the code, and I assumed the 4th number was

adding up all the numbers from the sheet on the floor and getting the number 4

but it wasn't. So far I have a partial code that even if I were to enter three of the 4 numbers and continually guess on the 4th, I have no idea how to open the gate.

Reply

I'm having trouble with room 4:

I have all the drawings from the different rooms, which seem to indicate the codes that need to be entered on the keypad, but none of them work. I've tried entering them in reverse, rotating the image and entering the code that way, nothing seems to work. What am I missing?

Reply

Username:

I don't know if the numbers that make up the code are persistent or random, but when I did it, the first line was 9, the second was 7 and the third was 14. That gave me a 4 digit code.

Reply

Okayyyy..... Understand the "ip address" code thing - I get

9 7 14

that's nice....

but put it WHERE??? I have had a click fit fest (i dare you to say it really fast 5 times) and there is NO place to put those numbers!!!

Reply

adding up the numbers in the first is the first digit, the second row gives you the second and the third row gives you the third and fourth since its adds to two digits.

Reply

4red3s - try clicking right in the center of the gate.

Reply

Ahh, the numbers are consistent from game to game, I was just

adding up to 14 and then adding the 1 and 4 and coming up with 5, thanks for the hint.

Reply

room three, i need help

i have the two letter codes and there are two letters difference between the codes, not sure what else i'm missing

Reply

I don't why my comment double posted? I only clicked preview and then submit.

Anyway, since we now know what the correct number code is.......

Where Do You Put IT????

[Edit: It wasn't double posted, it was just a hiccup in the Ajax code. Just reload the page. You'll see. -Jay]

mike_311 -

The code is the next iteration of that patter. HNMSQ -> KQPVT -> NTSYX, if I remember right. Just put in KQPVT and click each letter 3 times.

Reply

For all the people having trouble finding things in this game

TAB is your friend

Reply

TAB
OH

So it won't say nasty things when I push the TAB key? That's nice.

Reply

I can't find where to put the numbers

Reply

Jr

room 4

i entered the long code from room 1, i started at the top left and clicked the numbers as they occurred in the code to right and snaked my way down and then went back up, not sure where the pattern comes from, i think i just got it randomly

Reply

I meant to say room 5, not 4. Sorry. I've been trying to get this right for like 20 minutes and I just can't see what I'm missing.

Reply

Thanks for the TAB hint.

I made it all the way to -------------- room 2! I find that I am too stewpid to go any further and break is over. I hope others here will enjoy their break time.

Reply

Room 2 is very easy, don't over think it. Just

press in the letters in alphabetical order, you'll see which one is missing when you do this.

Reply

im stuck on room 5 too...

Reply
Russell Scott November 26, 2008 2:41 PM

lol, in room 4, if you use tab to

select and remove the fan blades

they keep spinning around the room!

Reply
Russell Scott November 26, 2008 2:47 PM

hmm...looks like doing that messes up the game, cuz after i

stopped the fan

i couldnt click anything

Level 4 is killing me, I've entered in the code

5276448731902

every way I can think of and no joy. I'm hoping I didn't write it down wrong, and there's no way of revisiting old rooms unless you start the game over, which seems to be a flaw to me.

Reply

Having a terrible time with level 3. Found letter code. Doesn't work... didn't write down stuff from previous levels... doh.

Reply

Never mind, I figured out the code entry for level 4

You'll see each grouping of numbers in a row, 527 is in a row, 644 is in a row, 873 is in a row, and 1902 is in an upside down L-shaped row.

Reply

Room 4 code

you have to enter the code on room four with all the numbers touching. There is only one way to do it. so start with the first.. then the second number has to be next to the second... and so on and so on.

Reply

4

If you start at the 5 in the top row, (or 2nd row, I forget now) you'll see directly below it is a 2 and directly below that is a 7. Then to the right of that 7 is a 6. Below the 6 is two 4s. Then to the left is 8, 7, 3 and you can figure out the rest from there.

5
I am completely stuck. I tried

Hitting buttons based on the pictures I copied down from previous rooms, but no luck

Reply

Anybody making any progress on level 5? I have tried everything!

Reply

Room 4:

The code must be entered in order, contiguously (e.g., all the letters touching one another, like in Boggle).

Reply

Level 5 is the last one, I'm out. I had to start the game from the beginning and

take screen shots of each of the tiles in levels 1, 2, 3, and 5; you also need a screenshot of the tile order and orientation from the fan blade in level 4. I took each of the shots and put them into photoshop, where I put them in the correct order and then rotated them as necessary to get the number sequence. The number sequence is found by following the line and seeing where it starts, changes direction twice, then stops. Reply

Oops, the last code on level 5 is

3548, not 3458 like I said in my previous post

Too much math to be enjoyable.

Corona, the only math involved in the entire game is simple addition, that's it.

Wow. I missed the first 3 installments of this game so i gave them a try. Funny to see part 2 having like 10-15 seconds of loading time for every click - kinda kills the fun of the game :D

Reply

Oh, my, Part 3. is tough. I like the challenge, though.

Reply

Oh, man, Part 3 was a killer. And all in the best sense of the word... Great one.

I guess I should go to bed now and take part 4 only tomorrow...

Sadly I am finding this game too difficult as an habitual weekday escaper I think that this is one of the hardest since weekday escapes began. Then again I'm not particularly good at these games.

Reply

Ugh, room 3 was the only one I could get by myself. I did like the puzzle designs, as it looked to me as if it was thought up by taking a simple idea, then adding a complexity to it. My main problem was how most of them (slightly in the first two, but most definitely the third) were alphanumeric cryptograms with the atmosphere being for atmosphere's sake, not a hint or anything to suggest the mental connections to anyone.

The final room, though... It just felt kind of risky.

If anyone had missed any of the designs in the previous rooms, they were effectively hosed. Hitting "reload" kinda ruins the atmosphere. Also, I only had a hard time with it because I tended to follow the lines back to front, unable to see which point was the starting one. Besides, all that for "Congratulation" singular? The designers must have been rushed for time if they could only offer one at the end.

how come i cant see spoilers?

Finished it, but had two questions:

1. Do the red valves change anything (other then letting the ladder go up in the first room).

2. Did anyone use the code on the bottom of the ladder that comes up in room two

Reply

Well, I felt determined enought to enter Part 4. I'm determined to go without the aid of the walkthru as far as I can - but room 1 is already beating me... The main problem seems to be that the hints all seem to refer to different number of letters(?)/numbers. One seems to refer to 12 items, the other to 13. The third one, I think, to 9 and lastly the lock asks for 4.

I likr this kind of ultimately stripped logic puzzle and this pin in my head is of a sweet kind - am I a masichist? :)

Reply

Masochist...

And forgot to mention that the 9 item hint really seems to be a 4-out-of-9 hint...

Reply

Oh, and almost forgot the fourth hint with 5 items...

If I ever find out the pattern here...

Reply

hey, can we get some walkthroughs for the first three games?

Reply

Wonderful what logical connections the brain can discover given ample time to do so...

Have you noticed that in the second row of those IP-adress-like rows of numbers, if you take away one from each two-digit number you get four numbers each divisible by three? Now I know it has nothing to do with the real solution, I just liked it :)

Reply

Shame for the extreme pixel hunting part in room 3. Not a very fair thing to include it in a game that's so NOT pixel hunting type...

Never had a chance to discover that info...

Reply

Oh, man... After seeing the "public" parts of the comments I thought level 5 would be the ultimate blow - and that one proved to be the easiest...

Out - with the only help I needed was to find that heavily pixel hunting hint in rom 3.

This was a good game. Hard, but was worth each grey cell lost in the process :D

Waiting for #5.

PS: Anyone who says there's too much maths in it... Well... C'mon... If addition is too hard for you...

Reply

Man that was tough! I had a real problem with the

KQPVT puzzle

but otherwise I enjoyed the game.

Sorry, Onamis isn't a portmanteau of "on" and "amis". The french word for "One" is "un" and "amis" is a plural form : "des amis". So, where this tittle come from? Mystery.
A french reader, not really good in english.

Reply

YES PLEASE I need help with the 3rd Onamis game. I imagine by now, you all don't need too much help with that one, so my "here's the code to the door's left to undo the lasers", which is as far as I am won't help.

Please, anyone?

Reply

Ahhhhh I finally found one on another site for Onamis 3. The puzzles were KIND of straightforward, but they were just....too different without any explanation for me. Kind of odd, but still good.

Reply

Hey Jacob whats that site your talking about?......i would get an account at jig but i wanna stay Onamis

Do not read this if you want to do room four on your own!

Press tab a few times and it will outline the center of the gate. Click on it. Enter 9744 in the holes and Presto! You open it.

Reply

This one was clever but I pretty much instantly hated the fact that I had to

Keep track of information from one level to another without being allowed to backtrack. If you're going to make us write it down at least let us go back in case we missed something!

OK, that's not really so much of a spoiler but I think it's worth putting there anyway. In any case, After starting and then having to restart a game, I got a little disillusioned with it, even if it was a little easy to redo. Poor design, I say! Otherwise I liked a couple of the puzzles, and the atmosphere is certainly nice, but I think it's a pretty so-so room escape.

Hi ! Being also French, I can tell that, perhaps, there is a portmanteau : "on a mis", which means "we have put" - which doesn't mean anything much, because "qu'avez-vous donc mis ?" - "what have you put on your back/bones/umbrella/etc. ?"

Huhuhuhu ! (French kind of grin).
