JayEscape from Beginning RoomCreated by Bianco Bianco, Mystery House: Escape from Beginning Room is an unusual room escape game, but not a long one. Introduced in this game is the concept of "inspirations", which are actually little ghosts in the room you must collect to reveal clues that help you escape.

All the puzzles in this game are logical and there's no small pixel hunting. The game is relatively easy and all the descriptive text is also translated into Engrish, which provides clues to help with some of the puzzles. All things considered, it's odd, but enjoyable.

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

Good game. Let's have a go at making a walkthrough then...

Bear in mind:

Occasionally you'll see a little ghost floating about. These appear sporadically, and you can collect them by clicking on them. If you move away from the screen you're on before collecting the ghost, it will dissapear, but don't worry, there will be plenty more if you need them. There's a counter in the top right corner showing how many you've collected. Above the counter there's a button labelled "Inspiration". If you click this you will use one of your ghosts. You can use this to help you in certain areas.

Walkthrough:

  1. Turn left to face the cabinet. Click on the cabinet to zoom in, then click the right hand side. Get the stick.

  2. Zoom out once, then click the left side of the cabinet to find the match.

  3. Zoom all the way out and turn right. Click the cobweb in the top left corner, then use the stick on the yellow bit in the cobweb to get the screw. Notice that the stick now has cobweb wrapped around one end in the inventory.

  4. Zoom out and turn left. Click the table to zoom in, then click on the left hand side of the table. Click the plug to plug it in.

  5. Zoom out once, then click the Inspiration button. Now click the top of the lamp to see a pen move accross the desk.

The pen is writing some numbers, which are...

    683

  6. Zoom in on the left side of the left hand draw, and use the code the pen wrote on the desk. Zoom out and open the draw. Take the screwdriver.

  7. Turn left and click on the doorhandles to zoom in. Use the screw on the little hole in the handle, then zoom out and click the left door to open it.

  8. Go outside. Turn right. There is a little box on the corner of the wall. You can't walk over to get it, as the floor is rotting, so use the stick to get it.

  9. Examine the matchbox in the inventory by double clicking it, then open it by clicking it in the main window. Get the key from inside the matchbox.

  10. Go back to the main room and turn right. Click on the cabinet, and use the key on the doors at the top. Get the newspaper.

  11. Zoom out and turn left (or right) twice. Click the fireplace to zoom in. Put the paper in the fireplace.

Use the match to light the newspaper. Get the brooch when it falls from the chimney.

  12. Zoom out and turn left twice. Click on the cabinet to zoom in, then click on the box to zoom in. Use the brooch on the yellow circle on the box. Click the box to open it and get the key.

  13. Zoom out all the way and turn right. Use the key on the door to open it. Click again to exit.

And then you've won! Some other things I found on my way...

  • If you use an inspiration point on the mirror to the right of the door (while zoomed in on it) you see a shadow move and then a monster come towards you.

  • Click on the right hand side of the fireplace to see an axe. Use an inspiration point. The game will tell you about the blood on the axe.

There's probably some other places to use inspiration points in the game, but I didn't find any. Admittedly I stopped looking once I finished the game though.

Okay, i figured it out. I'll make an official walkthrough...

  1. Go to the scene with the lamp.

  2. click its surface so that you are gazing right at the desktop.

  3. Click the bottom left corner of the desk. You'll see an outlet. Click the plug to plug the lamp in. It'll comment on how there is no power.

  4. Go around the room until you see a ghost. Go back to the desk top, and use inspiration.

  5. Turn on the lamp, and pay close attention to what the quill writes. The code is

    683

  6. Use the code on the drawer below. Obtain the driver.

  7. zoom in on the bookshelf. Then click the bottom right and left corners of the bookcase to obtain the stick and match, respectively.

  8. Turn to the right once. Use the stick on the web to obtain the screw.

  9. Go to the doubledoors. Zoom in on the left door handle.

  10. there is a hole on it.

    you have a screw, right?

    Open the door.

  11. After entering, turn to the right. There is something on the sill, but the floor is rotting.

  12. How did you obtain the screw?

oh, give me a break, its simple!

oh, for the love of... the stick maybe?

  13. Go back in, and report to the cabinet. Look at the matchbox, and open it. Open the cabinet after acquiring the item within the matchbox. Obtain the newspaper.

  14. go to the fireplace. Place the newspaper in it, and then use the match.

  15. A brooch falls. This is interestingly deceiving due to its shape, but the brooch goes onto the yellow circle on the red box.

  16. open the red box.

  17. Obtain the key.

  18. What else is there to unlock?

  19. It is to the right.

  20. It has a nice shiny handle.

  21. It is called the front door.

  22. click key, click door. Escape

all done!

Pretty cool game. Looking forward to more Mystery House

The stupid mirror freaked me out... and I even knew it was coming.

Pretty good little escape. If you're not getting anywhere quickly enough:

You have to click the ghost inspiration button (above where it shows how many ghosts you have) in certain places. The major breakthrough I had was

turning the lamp on. Maybe the ghost helped, Not sure...

I may sound stupid, but I can't do anything except

find a match, plug in a lamp, and see a creepy vision in the mirror

can anybody get past that?

Power of the post! If anyone needs help, I'm finished now

Anonymous August 6, 2008 4:17 AM

I figured it out.

I kinda liked the ghost game mechanic...

Once I did this, I got through the rest:

don't forget to check both sides of the shelf

try using a ghost with the lamp and be ready to pay attention

Reply

Here's how far I've got..

find stick behind book case

use stick on web to get screw

plug in lamp, use inspiration when looking
at desk surface, switch on lamp.
Pen traces a number. Put number in draw
code lock, get driver

put screw in patio door

go out on patio, look right and use stick to get matches

find key in matchbox

key opens top of book case, get newspaper

newspaper goes in fire

That's all I got for now. Anyone expand on that?
I'm especially keen to hear where I can..

find a match.. is it in the log pile?
I can't click it.

If Gryphon could drop a hint please?
Also, I can't do anything with the red box.

Reply

Yep, nice and simple... but with some extra fun innovations in the form of apparitions, reminds me of that escape game with the oija board (but without the scary bits).

It is shame it ends, I would have like to have played an entire house of room excape games and clever plot. What the world needs is like 10 or so designers to team up and do a room each, based around a plot, and then combine them all into a super game...

aine morgan August 6, 2008 4:41 AM

Out! That was quite fun, although took a while to get used to the inspirations :)

Reply

Ok.. I'm out. Final spoilers..
Additional to my previous post..

match is behind the book case, click near the bottom left.

use match on newspaper.. duh.
Get brooch(sp?)

brooch goes in red box, get key, use key on door...

and that should be more or less a walkthrough.

Just a bit of pixel hunting here

Here is my first walkthrough. I hope this works!

Don't forget to collect the ghosts if you see them. They will help give you clues to solving the room.

Go left

There are some things to collect in the cabinet

click bottom left and collect the match

click the bottom right and collect the stick

Click on the table

click to the left of the table and plug in the cord

if you have collected some ghosts you should be able to use one now, if not come back when you have one

click on the inspiration box above the ghosts in your inventory, then click on the light's switch

you should then see a pen writing a code for the locked drawer

if you need the code for the drawer

683

Open the drawer and remove the

screw driver

Click around the fireplace

you should find an axe, you can't take it but you can use inspiration on the axe head

you can also look at the wood, nothing to do here

go back and left

you can use inspiration on the floor

and on the close up of the mirror

Go to the spiderweb

use the stick to get the screw

use the screw in the doors to outside

go back and through the doors

go right and take the match box

use the stick

open it and get the key

use the key on the cabinet

light the paper in the fireplace

put the paper in the fireplace and click on it with the match

put the "brooch" on the box in the cabinet

Oh, great the next one is gonna be in the

basement

If you use inspiration when going around the room,

you can see blood in front of the fireplace and the locked door.

cool game, but...
for the life of me i can't make it run for more than 2-3 minutes at a time.

I've crashed it 4 times in a row for reproducibility.
I find a couple items, use an inspiration once or twice, whatever, no problem.
But then i'll use an inspiration on:

the axe, desk w/ lamp, mirror, or floor

and it begins its animation, but then the entire flash window goes white and no amount of clicking brings the picture back.
i'm running firefox 2.0.0.12 in Ubuntu 7.10 x86_64 with x32 flash drivers wrapped... the problem's probably my side, but this is the first game on JIG that i've had any problem with.
it was actually kinda scary one time:

i looked in the mirror and used an inspiration, saw the shadow, then the monster flashed in the mirror for about half a second then the entire image went white. like above, it really reminded me of the game w/ the ouija board

Reply

Found a slightly different ending:

Check out the newspaper. After you get the brooch, look at all the inspiration points (floors and axe) again while selecting the brooch. The text displayed below will be different.

Also in this ending,

you can see how many "ghost" you've caught :)

BTW, I'm really troubled by the

logs beside the fireplace, which seems to do nothing at all.

I think I may be missing sometime here.... When I use a ghost I get "inspiration beginning" and then nothing! Not much of a clue!

Vogonviking: the trick is about *where* you click after starting the Inspiration.

Like... in mirror ...

... or on desktop, or on top of lamp

The author wasn't joking when he/she said about the poor English...

The "inspiration" is wrong translated, actually it means "spiritual sense" that the player has, by collecting the spirits around the player can active the "spiritual vision" and see what happend before and sense the other things...

if you examine it, the newspaper shows the house and says that 3 women were killed. i think the shadow/monster was one of them. the blood on the ax was probably theirs.
