moonmasterrahkon.jpgPatrickMoonMaster: RahKon is the latest from Lost Vectors, creator of BowMaster Prelude. Gone is the resource management and medieval setting, but in its place you'll find a space-themed setting along with a similar physics engine under the hood. You play the role of a ball on the moon shooting rocks and a UFO with your lasers. Simply hold the left mouse button to fire and use the arrow keys to move around. The goal? Try not to get smashed to pieces.

Physics are the central focus of MoonMaster, and you'll spend most of your time fighting with them to reign control of the ball. Any object that's bigger than you will damage you, as will bombs, fire, and lasers. Crushing rocks that are smaller than you causes you to grow, keeping your delicate core safe from harm. Then, just stay alive as long as you possibly can.

Analysis: MoonMaster: RahKon is a pretty solid pet rock. However, I kind of wish there were more to this game on the high-level, the same way BowMaster Prelude allowed you to improve your castle defenses over time. Having advancement based on timing is also kind of a drag on the game's pacing. Instead, you should complete a level when you score a certain amount of points. Tuning up the rate at which obstacles fall down would make the game run at a brisker pace as well.

Keep in mind that MoonMaster: RahKon is still in early beta, so changes and improvements will likely occur over time. Until then, have fun bouncing and shooting!

I really like the gameplay of this game however I agree that it has some pretty big problems with pacing. After you beat the one alien on the stage you are pretty much left with nothing to do but roam around and get bigger. Once you reach the size cap you are forced to just wait until the timer runs out. Often, you don't even have to move, you can just sit in one place and absorb all of the rocks that fall.

I hope they fix this in later versions of the game because the physics are very responsive and the overall idea of the game is fun. I like that objects falling from the sky can benefit you instead of just harming you and I like that you can capture the individual aliens for a bonus.

Overall this game has good potential and I the programmers are able to get some good feedback from our comments.

Not a bad concept, but it took a little too long to pick up speed. Just when it was getting challenging, I was suddenly "blown out of orbit."

Yeah, the "blown out of orbit" thing kinda threw me. It would have helped if there was a warning meter or something.

You break away from gravity after 3000.....whatever units they were using. I can't really remember. Anyway, when you fly offscreen, there's an indicator showing how high your position is at the top of the screen. That's how you can tell if you are gonna fling yourself too far. You can stop yourself from going up by pressing the down key to fall faster.

hah! I got to level 5 before I had any idea that you could shoot!

Game was decent for a few minutes...then I was "blown out of orbit" which I had no idea about.

A big problem with this game is the "suns" are highly destructive and are randomly placed on each level - including directly under or even on top of your starting position. The second problem is that once you lose most of your mass, it is painstaking tedious to try to regain it in the later levels. Other than that, a fairly interesting design that is good to spend some time with.

Didn't you look at the screenshot first?

Quite fun, though I agree there should be a score based level up system rather than a time based one.

Is it possible to get more than a 2 times multiplier? I keep getting knocked back to normal by random lasers and hitting tiny bombs.

It is pretty difficult. I made it to level 23. I didnt think about recording my score until i had closed the window, but it was around 230,000.

Jason is currently working on Bowmaster 2. He came out with Moonmaster 2 as a way to practice his skills and keep us entertained while waiting on Bow 2. This wasn't really designed to be an "awesome" game.

How are you folks not figuring out the "out of orbit" thing? Don't you people TRY to read the instructions before starting?

When I got thrown out of orbit, it happened faster than I could react - literally from ground to loss in less than a second.

Great feedback people :) I plan to finish up development and address a lot of the issues you have touched on, as well as some additional features not yet seen in this version. Stay tuned! And thanks Jay for reminding people that it's still "beta."
