Link Dump Fridays

JohnBMateusz Skutnik, the sultan of Submachine, the curator of Covert Front, has recently polished up a few of his older skill games and re-released them with better visuals, a high score system, and numerous tweaks here and there. Each one is a single idea carved into a deliciously challenging arcade experience.

  • icon_octopus.gifOctopus - The big mean octopus is guarding the treasure, and its your job to sneak past his tentacles to nab the gold. Move when its limbs are retracted, grab as many coins as you can, then high-tail it back to the boat to tally up your score.
  • icon_crazycruise.gifCrazy Cruise - Hold the mouse button to fly higher, let it go to sink lower. Keep bobbing up and down to avoid the rocks and make it as far as you can without crashing!
  • icon_twiceasbounce.gifTwice as Bounce - Two monsters, one red and one yellow, are bouncing on like-colored trampolines. The catch that one is on the wall, the other on the ground, and you must control both at the same time!
  • icon_deadlydash.gifDeadly Dash - Press the [up] arrow to do a small jump, the [spacebar] for a big one. Avoid the obstacles by skillfully linking jumps.
  • icon_zenplants.gifZen Plants - What? A non-Mateusz game? Sure, why not! Similar to Mastermind, Zen Plants charges you with raising a young flora by setting the light, water and temperature conditions to the right levels. Each turn you guess what number each should be, then find out if your guesses were correct.

Kind of early?

Just because it's not Friday yet where you are doesn't mean it's not Friday already someplace else. :p

Zen Plants is Mastermind with fewer variables and fewer chances.

Deadly Dash is really neat. With some proper ambient music, a slightly greater challenge (6 failures on my first try placed me 8th all time? too easy), and a longer campaign (perhaps a level editor, too?) it could be a GREAT game, even.

Deadly dash = fun and short-- the perfect game!

I love games I can beat.

Also, nice job harukio on getting (so far) an all time high score on the octopus game :P

I was hoping Deadly Dash would be like Diner Dash but with more violence. (Don't ask me how that would actually work...)

Anyway, Zen Plants really irritates me for some reason. The effect is like, the complete opposite of zen.

Deadly Dash is really cute.
I like the scoring system - it only takes away 1 point for each time you die. That way you can keep track of how many tries it took without getting TOO frustrated.

Deadly dash just got interesting... then it ended...

Ahhh twice as bounce is death to the brain.

Deadly Dash is kinda nice.

It's also surprisingly easy. It's a great game you could give your kids too play... if they can stomach seeing the bird turn into a bloody mess each time it touches the box, that is.

Deadly Dash needed "moving blocks" levels.
Excluding this it was really fun!

It had levels with moving blocks!

Twice as Bounce was a very interesting sensation. Having to perform simultaneous differential equations on two orthogonal axes was at first almost brain hurtingly uncomfortable, and then there was a little rush of endorphins. Kudos.

Heh, those Koreans really have time to waste...

I've reached 102 on Twice as Bounce and it was quite enough dual-axis multitasking for me, thank you. The Korean guys on the high score list are in 1000s... :)

Sweet. On Twice as Bounce I just made it to 10th all time and 4th for today with 253. This isn't really the kind of game I'd think of playing after a physics and a calculus quiz, though. Go figure.

I'VE BROUGHT THE TITLE TO AMERICA!! 1336 on twice as bounce. I was deciding whether or not to stop at 1337, but accidentally fell short lol.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

The trick is

to focus on more the red guy, keeping the yellow guy in your perpipheral attention since sideways gravity isn't what we're used to and it seemed that the red guy was more prone to bouncing from wall to wall whereas the yellow guy I could keep more or less vertical for the most part.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Maybe you could avoid getting robbed by shooting the robbers

"I was hoping Deadly Dash would be like Diner Dash but with more violence. (Don't ask me how that would actually work...)"

Or, the more time they waited the more violent they'd get, and when they got to 0 stars, instead of leaving, they'd kick your ass, and it'd be game over.

For anyone who liked deadly dash it's basically an easy boring ripoff of the old game city jumper

I was bounced when I came in here, I'm twice as bounced now.

Reply

haha i loved deadly dash, even it was very short. the "bullet time" like way to beat the last levels was really nice

Hey Jay, is that your score on zen plans? Well, I'm #2 (for the moment anyway...)

Great games as always.

I feel old... FYI, this Octopus game is purely a graphical uplift of an old handheld game (like a DS, but one that only plays one game - I had one, ~30 yrs ago). All functionality/gameplay was faithfully copied.

Is anyone else having problems playing Zen plants? The link just goes to a mochiads site that describes the game and doesn't have the game or even a link to it...
