Link Dump Fridays

DoraIt's you! I thought you'd never come! I was just sitting here, all alone, and I was like, "When is that person going to come by? That person is just so incredibly froopy, and talented, and the way the sun sparkles off their hair when they smile over their shoulders at me in Copper's Field makes my breath catch in my throat!"... uh... maybe not that last bit. But you're still here, and that's still awesome, so the least I can do is provide you another batch of games to start your Friday off right! Let's... let's just pretend that didn't get all awkward, okay?

  • Tobe's Hookshot EscapeTobe's Hookshot Escape - If Zelda has taught me anything, it's that hookshots are awesome, especially when used irresponsibly. This little arcade platformer game features hookshot use under entirely merited conditions, but it's still fun. Climb up through an endless cavern, avoiding the unseen horrors that lurk beneath the Bottom of the Screen (aieeeeeeeee!), and other perils while you leap for little glowing thingies and a high score. If you want more adventures with Tobe and his rockin' fluffy hair and you have a Windows 7 phone, you can check out the mobile version or keep your eyes peeled for a commercial release coming in June!
  • StarcedeStarcede - How I wish I was a starfighter! But since everything electronic I touch dies with a little digital squeal of pain and betrayal, it's probably best I live out my hopeless dreams vicariously through vertical shooters like this flashy little number. Less "bullet hell" and more "why, yes, these bullets are quite ripping today aren't they, old chum?", it's a simple but well done little blaster with upgrades and a pleasing amount of things that go boom.
  • Pogo RampagePogo Rampage - Pogosticks, like the hula hoop, lawn darts, and razor scooters, are one of those childhood toys I just somehow lacked the basic coordination to make work, so this little arcade game about mindless pogo-related violence is extremely cathartic. Pogo-dominate helpless pedestrians and heavily armored vehicles dressed like Lee Adam Harold's Butch for points to spend on various upgrades. Also just for funsies. Now, of course, any kids out there in the audience should never, ever do this sort of thing even if you manage to get your hands on an experimental government pogo-stick, but for the rest of us? Hey, we're adults, mass destruction with children's toys is totally our basic instinct, and we'll get to it right after we stay up past our bedtime and have ice cream for breakfast.
  • Shiver Me PiecesShiver Me Pieces - Isn't it nice that we can play puzzles in our browser now and not have to deal with pieces going missing down the couch or being eaten by the family cat? (I try not to blame him; it's not his fault his brain works like a Rube Goldberg machine that breaks halfway through.) Plexus brings us another sea-farin' installment of jigsaw goodness with this slightly more challenging arrangement of pirate-themed pieces. Unlike a regular puzzle, the pieces are cut out all willy-nilly with little apparent rhyme or reason, and you can't smoosh them together to make them fit. Maybe that'll be a feature in the next one?
  • The Blocked TunnelThe Blocked Tunnel - For years, I hated pickles. Then last year I had what might have been Zeus's own Cuban sandwich at a festival and my feelings changed. Then yesterday I played this odd little point-and-click puzzle game with a withered little protagonist that looks suspiciously like a creepy, mobile pickle... and I think I've been put off them again. But that's not to say you shouldn't enjoy the sketchy, appealing art style as you guide out hero through this short little game to solve the mystery of a blocked tunnel.

Oh god this pirate puzzle.

I've finished it now except for one piece and I have no idea where the hell it goes. The pieces are really just crammed together, there are tons of white spaces all throughout the thing. The ship fits together pretty well, I liked that part, but for the rest... it's like someone just drew a few pirate objects independantly of each other, and cut them out and just randomly stuck them to each other without worrying about them actually interlock.

This plexus puzzle is quite a bit different than the previous ones. Unlike before where things with a roughly similar theme were all rotated and smashed together into a cube, this one has all the elements being part of a actual feasible standalone picture. This makes putting things together much less guesswork, but it also makes quite a few things less... elegant. Some pieces have very identifiable rough ridges where the artist cut along to make the pieces, and there's also places of white space inside the picture.

Overall, this seems less like a jumbled mess that happen to fit together nicely like the previous puzzles and more like the end result of a magazine after a run with a kid with a pair of scissors or the lasso photoshopping button.


Starcede is a very nice shooter! Well done!

I usually really like the plexus puzzles, but this one was a bit iffy. There's too many blanks spaces in between the pieces.


Shiver Me Pieces took me a little while to do. Especially when I didn't realize you could press the arrows to turn the pieces.

Some interesting combinations you wouldn't think of.

Nice little puzzle game.

Everything, *everything*, except that lamp.


I was surprised I was able to finish Shiver Me Timbers without any help. One thing I found trickier about this puzzle than other Plexus ones is that there is a definite use of white space within the puzzle - not all pieces fit all the way up against the others!

Uh... correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Blocked Tunnel is impossible to do with a touchpad. Or at least, I am not able to get all the lights on the control panel lit at the same time.

Hi guys, and thanks for putting up the new Plexus Puzzle, Jayisgames!

Wanted to say- the white spaces were enitrely intentional, as they make the puzzle more challenging.

Compared to some of the older Plexus Puzzles 'Shiver Me Pieces' incorporates some different techniques when it comes to trying to figure out how to put it together.

Something about the art in the last scene of The Blocked Tunnel reminded me of Dr.Seuss. I can't quite place it but I think it was a Dr. Seuss book that had trees with berries like that or maybe I am just crazy:) Fun little game.

Sorry but I don't think it was the best method to make the puzzle "more challenging" and I can't seem to figure out what different techniques you're referring to. Near as I can tell, this puzzle worked the same as all the others, except there are white spaces for some of the pieces this time. And there-in lies the problem, the ship goes together seamlessly, which sets us up for the wrong expectation as it relates to the rest of the puzzle. I still haven't fit the whole thing together yet, I have ~4 pieces left, and I'm quite annoyed. I usually like your puzzles, not so with this one.


I did the puzzle without any help, but that puzzle was ridiculous.

If you are playing the pirate puzzle in a kind of silent environment, remember don't that there'll be a sudden BANG! when you finish it. It can give you a small shock... especially if you are neither prepared for it, or wide awake.


I'm stuck on the first scene in The Blocked Tunnel. ;A; I am so pitiful. Can someone help me please?

This is a tough puzzle, hang in there :)

Besides, just think of all the exhilaration you'll feel when you finally solve it! : )

Earlier Plexus Puzzles relied solely on matching up the shapes of the piece edges.
"Shiver Me Pieces' includes this challenge, but also requires you to match up the color pattern of similar pieces. Furthermore, there are some subtle contextual clues inherent in a few pieces which enable you to place them properly.

Maybe this needs to come with a warning, as I suspect there's a bunch more who are ready to throw their mouse (and maybe some other things?!) at me...

I'm feeling obtuse, but on level 3 of The Blocked Tunnel:

none of the symbols on the towers match the symbols in the box, except for the yellow one and it's only a vague match at best?

I even went to the walkthrough *gasp*, to make sure I wasn't crazy, and apparently I'm doing the right thing, but am either thinking too hard or not hard enough. . .love the music though.

I really liked The Blocked Tunnel, too bad it was so short. More gorgeous point-and-clicks!


I enjoyed the 'The Blocked Tunnel', short, and surreal, and Salad-Fingers-esque...I hope to see more from Bertil soon.

I'm in the middle of 'Shiver Me Pieces' right now, and it's quite possibly the most frustrating experience I've ever subjected myself to...and yet I cannot stop.
