Number two is here!
Kagi Nochi Tobira—
Still just as orange.

(Psychotronic)

Back to the basics again with Kagi Nochi Tobira 2, the simple and original puzzle game sequel to the very well-received Kagi Nochi Tobira from September of last year.

The objective is very easy to understand: find the key, then find the door. How you go about doing that is unique to each level.

There's not much else to say other than the raw creativity and sense of discovery in these simple puzzle games create an exceptionally engaging and appealing experience. Similar in concept to the Hoshi Saga series. Another example of why simple ideas are often among the most fun!

#7 has me baffled.

All I can do is get the mice to squeak (very annoyingly) and change positions. They seem to have only two positions each.

For #8:

when you have grabbed the rectangle, position it over the larger rectangle and then click and hold. You'll see something happen, and then release. You may have to repeat a couple of times to get both the key and the door.

Stuck on #16, #17 & #20.

For #7, which stumped me too:

The mice (are they mice? devils?) dart out of the way when you left click on them. How can you get around that?

For #8

You can pick something up. Try doing different things with the mouse and mouse buttons once you have the tool.

My thoughts on 20:

The two greyed out pictures on the bottom resemble the maze, perhaps they're connected in some way. The maze spells out "KEY, except the bottom stem of the Y is missing. Perhaps that has something to do with 20? I can't seem to make any progress with it.

The number appears to be for #20, not #10. If you have the key, you need to find the door, which is at the end of another corridor in the maze. You've probably already seen it, but may not have noticed it, as it's just the little doorknob shadow that gives it away. If you still can't find it:

To get the door, use the code that you got from level 10 (14134 in my case but could be random. Don't know how to get the key

Reply
Dan Someone March 14, 2009 6:57 PM

#20:

The code changes each time you quit and return, so you have to keep going back to the maze. Also, if you enter the code, the door comes up, but then the code buttons no longer function, so presumably the key is achievable some other way, or you have to get it first.

Level 20:

First go to Level 10 and complete the Y in the word "KEY" spelled out by the maze. There is a button somewhere on the wall that opens up the stem of the Y. There will be a five digit number written on a note at the bottom of the stem. Write down this number. Go to Level 20. In level 20 there is a square with circles on it in the center of the screen. Click on the panel to zoom in. Click and hold the bottom left circle to make symbols appear on the panel. Each symbol corresponds to a typical number on any number pad (i.e. telephone) The shapes correspond to the 5 digits you found in Level 10. Zoom out from the panel and click the @ symbols to scroll through the symbols, putting the 5 digit number/symbol in order from left to right. A door should appear on the left of the screen.

The key to the door is on the right side of the panel. Click near the right edge to go into a side view of the panel.

Maybe the key to 20 has something to do with the previous game and the fact that the rooms formed a key and this forms a door.

A better haiku for level 6 (courtesy of the other walkthroughs' solutions) would be:

A haiku to summarise the game:

Love it, almost all the levels are really clever, except for 17, which is just obnoxious.

Here's a trick you can use if you're sick of waggling your mouse like an idiot, just to fail in the end:

After you get the propeller spinning enough that you can see the key, right-click your mouse. That brings up the Flash menu, which effectively pauses the game. NOW you can go click on the key at your leisure!

Oops, nevermind about #16. Sorry.

@queen-of-diamonds
a haiku is basically a poem that has a pattern in the number of syllables for each line. The most common one is 5-7-5 (five syllables on the first line, seven on the second, five on the third).
Using one of Tom's examples (where each syllable is in brackets):
[the] _ [ot-][her] _ [walk-][throughs]
[bet-][ter] _ [des-][cribe.] _ [You] _ [have] _ [to]
[move] _ [the] _ [mouse] _ [real] _ [fast]

Where exactly in level 10 is

the switch that opens the bottom of the "Y"? From what others have said, I think it's right where the stalk meets the rest of the Y, on the south or north wall. I haven't been able to locate the switch in either of those locations. Do I need to keep clicking, or am I looking in the wrong spot?

Reply

Nevermind, got it

Level 10:

Location of the switch:

Starting from the top-left of the Y, go down 3 spaces, right one, then face north. The switch should be right there. Then you can go down the middle of the Y.

This is a great game. The tiny window we have to play it in keeps screwing me up. I had to redo level 5 at least 4 times because my cursor kept leaving the window and the puzzle would get stuck. And now I'm wiggling my arm off on 17 and the propeller keeps losing speed because my cursor leaves the window. And now my shoulder hurts. :(

Here's how to solve rooms 10 and 16 in excruciating, non-haiku detail.

10:

Imagine you are in a maze, a 3D maze with walls around you. On the left side of the screen you have a view of the maze as you see it, as if you are wandering in it. The maze has orange walls and black floor.

Click the forwards arrow to move forward one space in the maze. Click the backwards arrow to turn around 180 degrees on the spot. Click left and right arrows to turn 90 degrees left or right.

As you move through the maze, you will notice the small black arrow on the right side of the screen moving around. This side of the screen shows you a top-down birds-eye view of the maze. The arrow represents you (your position and direction you're facing). Each orange box that appears represents one "square" of the maze that you can travel through. In gamer's language we would call this a MINIMAP.

As you continue to explore the maze, you will notice that the Minimap appears to spell out a word - KEY. You started in the bottom left corner of the maze, where the bottom left line of "K" ends.

To solve the room, you need to go all the way across the maze, to the top right corner of the maze, where you will find the key on the floor. Before heading to the door, you need to do something else. Starting from the square where you found the key, you need to go SOUTH 3 spaces, then WEST 3 spaces, then FACE NORTH. There is a switch on the wall. Click it. You'll hear something opening. Turn EAST, then go EAST 1 space, then face SOUTH and head SOUTH 5 spaces. There's a paper on the floor here. Click it. A 5-digit code will appear on screen. Write this down (you need it for a later room).

Now you can find the door and leave. The door is in the north wall of the upper right arm of the letter K (as seen on the Minimap). Only the doorknob is visible, and the door is very small compared to the size of the maze's walls.

16:

Imagine someone has mailed you a parcel and you have it sitting on a table in front of you. That is what the room looks like. You are going to open this parcel.

First you need to peel a tab that is holding the parcel closed. This tab begins on the left edge of the parcel, about 2/3 of the way up from the parcel's bottom edge. You'll see a visual change when you hover over the tab. Click and hold the tab to drag it to the right. The speed at which you do this is very important. I can't really describe it except to say it's fairly fast. Perhaps about the same speed that you would use if you were using Windows Explorer to move files around.

Keep trying until the tab has been pulled completely to the right. It should stay in place.

Now you have to open the lid of the parcel. You need to click and hold on the area of the parcel above the ripped tab (the mouse cursor should change to a hand). Then drag VERY FAST upwards and then let go. The speed for this bit is the speed that you would use if you were playing Kagi Nochi Tobira and your boss walked into the room, forcing you to close the browser window (!). The key is in the lid. To find the door, click the key first then click on the used up tab.

Reply

for # 17, if you right click on the screen after the key has been revealed, it'll pretty much pause the game and give you all the time you need to grab the key.

Reply

I'm sorry but I hated this game. It doesn't work the way it's supposed to, according to the three walkthroughs posted--the interface is just too difficult to use and that spoils any fun in the idea.

In particular, #16, #17, and #20 don't work for me. I've tried carefully and followed the instructions to the letter. I gave up because it lost any value after 5 minutes of frustration.

Lowest rating possible. Very lame.

Reply

I had no problems with this game except on level 17, where the block kept dropping down too fast to grab the key. Even right-clicking to pause didn't work.

Finally, by feat of superhuman effort, I achieved it, and won. But everything else was fairly straightforward.

This was pretty fun until 17. I'm sorry, 17 just doesn't work. I bumped up my mouse speed, but I just can't get enough speed with good aim. I have yet to see the cover over the key even waver. Challenges are fun, getting almost to the end but finding an impossible level is not. Oh well.

Reply

Okay, okay. I take back all the nasty names I called Kagi Nochi Tobira months ago while trying to get past level 16 in the first game (I quit & never finished). I enjoyed this game. Level 17 pushes it, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Some constructive criticism: Hand-eye coordination and reaction-time games may have their fans. But I, for one, prefer that such devices are not used in escape games. With all due respect, mixing the genres shows a lack of creativity. As if the designer used them due to laziness. Just my opinion.

In the end, I liked this game. It was inventive and fun. All is forgiven. Almost... LOL!

Reply

Level 16: I can't seem to get the top off the box/envelope. I'm clicking and dragging up, in every spot, every speed, to no avail. Help?

Reply

I tried the right-click trick for #17... Didn't work. I'm with OrigamiMarie, you shouldn't need to get an hurting arm just because the fan 1. won't easily spin fast enough and 2. looses speed the moment the mouse isn't touching it. It ruined an otherwise good game.

Ow. That was stupid, but I got it. Ow. I had to wait until I was alone because handling a mouse like that just can't be explained. Ow. I think I'll go stretch now. Don't bother posting the next in the series if it requires that kind of mouse usage. Oh and I have a theory as to why it's so hard . . . it might be related to system clock speed. It might be perfectly reasonable on the developer's computer . . .

COMPLETE ANSWER FOR ANYONE HAVING TROUBLE WITH #20

To get the door...

Go back to level 10.
Spell out the word "KEY" in the maze.(You don't really have to spell out the whole word. Just make sure you can get to the letter "Y".)

This part is for those who don't remember how to get to the stem of the "Y"...

The switch is on the "north" wall of the fist room to the left of where the stem should be. If you're in the correct room and you don't see it, make sure the black arrow is pointing up. If you still don't see it you're probably in the wrong room. If you don't understand which room it is in, check all the walls of all the rooms in the "Y". You have to flip the switch to get down the stem.

At the bottom room of the stem of the "Y", there is a piece of paper on the floor. Click on the piece of paper and you will see five numbers show up at the bottom of the screen. If you don't think you'll be able to remember these numbers, WRITE THEM DOWN, the numbers change every time you quit level 20, or enter level 10, so you can't come back to see them again. They won't be the same.

Now, leave level 10 and go back to level 20.
Click on the keypad in the center of the screen. Click and hold the bottom left button. Each symbol corresponds with a number on a telephone. Use the numbers on a telephone to find which symbols match which numbers.
If you want to know, these are the symbols that correspond with each number...

1= solid circle "☻"
2 = open triangle
3 = solid square "■"
4 = open circle "☺"
5 = solid trianlge "▲"
6 = open square
7 = solid star
8 = dollar sign "$"
9 = open star
0 = "at" symbol "@"

When you know all the symbols, click the anywhere on the background to go back to the full screen of the level. Click on each of the buttons until, you have the correct code in place.

Once you've put in the right code, click on the switch under the middle button and the door will rise up on the right.

To get the key...

Click on the pad with the 12 circles on it in the center of the screen. Click on the background to the right side of the pad. You'll see a side view of the pad; the key is there. Click anywhere on the background to go back to the full screen. Click the door and you're free to go!

Hope this helped someone

Level 10 does not give me a numerical code to enter in level 20: just a row of five icons. It is therefore impossible to complete the game. (Could this be because the game was designed for an earlier version of Flash?)

not sure if you still need help for level 10, since it's been several months now ;)

but

...Ugh, wow. I just cleared level 17 on a macbook. I'm lefty, BTW, so in order to do it, I had to stretch my right hand across the keyboard to hold ctrl down (for "right click"), THEN waggle like crazy, which took quite a while to get to work right. And then also NOT MISS THE SCREEN WITH THE CLICK!

Never again.
I'm too annoyed to be able to make a haiku right now. Other than that one level, it's a good game though.
