Weekday Escape

GrinnypIf there's one thing you can say about escapes it is this: they are usually exercises in pure logic. How do you use this? How do you combine that? It's all a great exercise for the brain, but don't you think that sometimes you'd just like to jettison the logic for once? To play something that is totally and irredeemably silly and illogical? Welcome to the madness that is Island Escape: Funky Parrot Redemption! Created by RexGAMEZ, this is an exercise in pure escaping silliness.

Island Escape: Funky Parrot RedemptionTo begin with, you are stranded on a very tiny deserted island, with only a radio and a pipe smoking parrot for company. What's a castaway to do? Well, try everything, and that means everything. There are not a lot of logical solutions to be had here, so let your imagination roam free. Pick things up, play around, and if you can manage it enjoy the funky, funky tunes from the radio.

There's no navigation per se, as the entire game takes place on one screen. Click on things to either examine them or put them in your inventory. Fortunately there's a changing cursor to highlight the hotspots. Combine objects and see what happens. And frankly, don't think that anything is too silly to contemplate doing, as some of the solutions are... well, let's say creative, shall we?

Analysis: Okay, so this is not the average escape game. Once in a while it's nice to let go and just have some fun, not a lot of logic or thinking allowed. Island Escape: Funky Parrot Redemption is that escape, wrapped up in a multi-colored bow. And hey, how many escapes have you ever played that prominently feature an outhouse?

The graphics are vivid, flat, cartoony, and very pretty to look at. Appropriate sound effects and interesting music choices add to the Caribbean feel of this lovely island getaway. There's pretty much only one way to escape, so you're not looking at a lot of replay value, unless you just want to experience the silliness one more time.

We're not talking rocket science here, folks. A kicking intro, a handful of goofy puzzles, one of the coolest escapes ever, and you're done. Sometimes, though, it's nice to take a break from cold logic. Strip down to shorts, put on a funky hat, grab a tasty beverage of your choice, and enjoy the island madness. And the inflatable pig.

Island Escape: Funky Parrot Redemption Walkthrough

Beginning

  • Click on the note in the bottle (in the water) and read it. Poor bored parrot!

  • Between the outhouse and the beach ball is a small stick on the ground. Pick it up.

  • Between the fire pit and the palm tree are two small rocks on the ground. Take them.

  • On the clothesline are a colorful pair of shorts. Take them.

  • Open the outhouse and take the toilet paper.

  • Click on the telephone for a close up.

  • Watch closely, a little inchworm will start appearing in various places. Click on it to take it (move quickly).

  • Back up to full view.

  • Click the radio on and off several times until you get a kicking Caribbean beat (the guy will start tapping his foot).

  • Once the parrot falls of the clothesline take it (the clothesline, that is).

  • You now have almost everything you need to escape.

Using the Inventory

  • Put the toilet paper in the fire pit.

  • Use the two small rocks on the fire pit to start a fire.

  • Put together the stick, rope with hook, and the worm.

  • Give the assembled fishing rod to the castaway. He will catch a fish that goes into your inventory.

  • Put the fish on the fire and watch him eat it.

  • Once he's done eating the fish click on the outhouse to open it, then click on the inside of the outhouse.

  • While the gentleman is...taking care of business, click on the newspaper he's reading.

  • On the lower left hand side of the page (to the left of the picture of the pig balloon) is a number, three digits then a
hyphen then three digits. This is a phone number. The number is different every time you play, so write it down.

  • Click on the phone and the guy will leave the outhouse.

  • Once he's out, give him the fishing rod again, he will fish up a boot.

  • Give him the fishing rod again, and he should fish up a teddy bear.

  • Click on the teddy bear's eye to get a button.

  • Escaping time!

Endgame

  • Click on the phone for a close up.

  • Use the button in the coin slot at the top of the phone then dial the number from the newspaper.

  • Great, a deflated inflatable pig.

  • Pick up the pig and hang it on the upper right corner of the outhouse.

  • Click on the inside of the outhouse and the guy will go in.

  • Click on the red handle on the inflatable pig and enjoy the ending.

WALKTHROUGH

Take the stick lying on the ground to the right of the outhouse.

Take the two rocks on the ground to the right of the palm tree.

Zoom in on the phone. Quickly catch the worm when he pops up (he shows up in several different locations). Note that you need a coin for the phone.

Open up the outhouse and take the toilet paper.

Take the shorts off the clothes line.

Click the radio to turn it on. Keep clicking it until one of the funky tunes makes the parrot dance. After he falls off, quickly take the clothes line.

Combine the clothes line and the stick to make a fishing rod. Combine the worm with the fishing rod.

Click the fishing rod, then click the man. He catches a fish, and puts it... into your inventory.

Put the toilet paper into the ring of stones on the ground. Use the two stones in your inventory on the toilet paper to start a fire.

Click the fish then the fire. The man cooks and eats the fish.

Open the outhouse door and click on the inside. The man sits down and opens a newspaper. Click the newspaper. Hey, look! A pig! To the left of the pig is a six-digit number. (The number is different in every game.) Write it down.

Click the fishing pole and then the man to have him go fishing again. Have him fish until he catches a teddy bear. Take the teddy bear's eye.

Go to the phone and insert the button into the coin slot. Dial the number you got from the newspaper.

Hey, look! A pig! Hang the pig off the outhouse.

Click the inside of the outhouse so the man gets in, then click the pig.

That was a lot of fun!
Thanks for sharing! :)

Hahaha the ending cracked me up. A nice, short, easy diversion from the crushing reality of having nothing to do.

If you don't know, words on a door are "I love Chrissie" :)

Haha, what a fun escape game! Didn't take me much longer than 5 minutes, but definitely worth it for the silly humour involved, and the funny ending. Even though the answers were silly, they never seemed illogical (well, mostly!), which is what probably made this fun. No pixel hunting involved either! Great little game :D

Blow-up Pig hung on a dunny door for an ending?!?!

An illogical game with no reference to any parrot at the end, but really fun to play.

Reply

I don't see anything illogical here. It's a bit crazy but everything makes sense!

@Chiktionary

Go into the bathroom & then click the pig. Look out for the parrot reference!

Okay, I have

stick, rocks, toilet paper, pants, and worm.

I've made

fire from toilet paper and rocks.

Now I'm stuck. I'm not sure what to do with the

telephone or beach ball

and I don't know what

the message in the bottle signifies in terms of puzzle solving.

@ Ray9na:

click on the radio a few times and wait for the parrot to fall off the rope; you'll need that for the fishing rod...

be sure that the castaway's foot is tapping before waiting for the parrot to get off of the rope

Was there a point to the pants?

This was a nice diversion. As an East Coaster who's been buried under several feet of snow, the tropical island theme was especially welcome!

GrinnyP's advice to "try everything. no matter how illogical," helped me to complete this without any hints at all (very rare for me).

Thanks for all of the work that everyone puts into JIG! Everything is so well written and organized. I know it takes a lot of time and attention to detail.

(I used to be amazed that so many people were commenting the very same day a game was posted, but I've become one of them!)
