JohnBThe vikings and the ice that trapped them have returned in an expansion on Nitrome's original physics-based puzzle game, Ice Breaker.

Ice Breaker: The Red Clan introduces lots of new obstacles to deal with strewn about an all-new set of levels. Vikings are trapped in the ice, walled-in by rock, or otherwise prevented from reaching the ship. Using your cursor as a cutting tool, it's your job to set them free. Manipulate each environment to provide a clear path from viking to ship and carve your way through 40 brand-new levels.

Here's what's on the roster for our rusty-haired vikings: ice blocks that rocket apart when you cut them, "grabby stones" that let you create hooks to other surfaces, fat ladies that need to be deflated, and fog that impedes your cutting ability. Oh, and ice. You'll have to deal with ice, too.

The levels in Red Clan are much more inventive than the original Ice Breaker. You can tell the team had more time to focus on design with a finished game mechanic ready to roll. Unfortunately some of these levels require precise solutions, and when you're cutting ropes on swinging boulders or slicing ice to knock over bulging fat ladies, precision isn't quite the name of the game. It encourages you to be inventive with your solutions, however, and I never got so frustrated I wanted to ragequit.

Same great ice-viking taste, now in strawberry flavor! Ice Breaker: The Red Clan is an excellent expansion of the already grand puzzle game.

Complete Walkthrough
here's something i did on my spare time.

level 1

grab the two vikings, cut them from the iceberg, then let them swing towards the boat before cutting them loose.

level 2:

make a cut above and below the two vikings (near where the "pins" are). have the huge ball grab onto the ceiling (near another of the "pins") then cut the ice below it to let loose. if it works, the frozen vikings should get hit straight into the boat.

level 3:

cut the five crows loose to let the "dominoes" fall. cut the one crow from the smaller boulder and let it fall into the pit. cut the larger boulder loose to push the viking to safety.

level 4:

start with the two green ladies at the top, then the blue lady right beneath the frozen viking, and lastly the two blue ladies side by side blocking the viking's fall.

level 5:

just let the boulder fall. better cut the ice right in the middle. hopefully, the viking'll get pushed onto the boat. ^_^

level 6:

too many ways. one of which is to get the grabbing boulder close enough to the viking (grab first rock, slice the ice underneath, grab second rock while swinging and cut loose from the other, and so on). you could either grab hold of the rotating rock and work a way to grab the viking down, or just grab onto the viking and let your boulder fall, cutting the viking loose before it gets dragged underwater. ^_^

level 7:

one solution could be this. get the grabby rock attached onto the flying rock, slice the flying rock to get the grabby rock flying and then grab onto the ceiling as close to the viking boat as possible. meanwhile, ignore the blue lady (or pop it, whichever's more fun) slice the ice where the grabby rock was and watch the viking fly in the air. catch it with the grabby rock when it gets closest and then you can get it moving onto the boat.

level 8:

let the boulder loose onto the bowling pins - i mean the vikings and ladies. target the closest viking for better results.

level 9:

cut the ice underneath the frozen viking to get it rolling, but before it could fall onto the stack of devils, grab onto the rock. you don't want the viking rolling to the right, there's no way out there. let it fall to the left, and then the easiest would be to have it swing towards the boat.

level 10:

cut away at the ice surrounding the frozen viking until it gets light enough for the crow to carry. before it flies off, pop a blue lady on the left and watch the viking bounce up. make sure it's above the boat before cutting it loose from the crow.

level 11:

get the grabby boulder swinging and have it hover above the wooden plank at the rightmost of the viking. cut the boulder and the rope at the same time and hope the viking flies onto the boat. ^_^

level 12:

start with the green lady, the blue lady at the bottom, and the next and the next until the viking's on the boat. for the other, cut the ice right in the middle. it's the best way to get the viking safely through.

level 13:

for the viking in round ice, cut the flying rock in half lengthwise. it should get the frozen viking swinging. time it with the rotating hook before cutting it down.
for the viking in the other, slice the ice on which the boulder above it is sitting to get it to fall onto the viking. when it starts swinging, it's best if you could cut away at the ice around it, if not, just cut through the rope.

level 14:

start with the toppest viking. clear out the green ladies, cut the right rope first then the other. this should get the viking close enough to the blue lady. clear away the six green ladies that are farthest from the other viking, to get the weight uneven. cut the boulder down and before it falls, cut the rope where the blue lady is to get the viking there flying. it could either fall into the boat or beside the other viking. cut the last remaing rope.

level 15:

cut the floating ice as close to the top as possible. this should give you the highest path to roll on to. when the frozen viking is as close to the boat as possible, grab it with the rotating grabby rock and onto the boat. (tip: two opposite points on the grabby rock attached to a single point on your target should get it swinging.)

level 16:

cut a portion of the flying rock. it should push the floating frozen viking through the barrier of rock and onto the wooden hook. once there, just cut down the boulder above it and the frozen viking will swing onto the boat.
for the other, cut the frozen viking down, then cut up the tiny portion of ice holding the boulder back. it should push your viking towards the mills and onto the boat.

level 17:

cut down the ice closest to your sled. cut the next ice, making the surface smooth. you should have one clear path here. next, cut down the next island of ice (it'll actually drop into the water and be out of the way.) for fuel, cut the flying rock up and watch the sled go dashing through.

level 18:

this takes a lot of calculation. cut the round boulder down. the viking could either swing onto the top of the slide, in which case you'll need to cut the piece of wood above down quickly, or it could fall right onto the ice and into the boat.

level 19:

just cut the boulder and the frozen viking down at the same time. the flip of the icy boat should send the frozen viking rolling onto the hook. when the hook swings at the very top, cut the whole thing loose to get the viking onto the boat.

level 20:

timing is everything. cut the rope attaching the two vikings together, and before it hits the rotating planks, cut the middle viking down. if all goes well, they'll all topple through the middle, onto the boat.

level 21:

here's a hint. the farther viking should pivot onto the other viking and the rock below it. cut away at all the other bonds of that viking and cut it loose when it swings above the boat. the remaining viking should swing on the rock in the middle of the remaining pivots.

level 22:

above the boat, cut at the smallest, leftest rope holding the crows inside. this way, when the crows fly out , they'll send the red lady toppling towards the teapot looking iceberg. when this falls, get ready, because once the frozen viking's in the air, you'll have to hack away at the ice surrounding it so the two crows could lift it. cut the viking loose when it's on top of the opening.

level 23:

this is fun. cut down the vertical wood close to the weird looking contraption, sawtooth up. cut the flying rock down. cut it in lengthwise and watch the sawtooth wood work the other sawtooth wood through and the frozen viking move onto the boat.

level 24:

here's mine. i attached the grabby rock onto the tip of the rotating rock. next is to separate the frozen vikings into three frozen vikings. this way, you should be able to swing them one by one onto the boat. ^_^

level 25:

again, timing. the first two wood fillers are upside down, while the last should swing on its side. ^_^

level 26:

this one's really tricky. what i did was secure the viking on the grabby rock, attached it to the ceiling, and hacked away at the flying rock underneath. this will get the viking swinging, and i made to the left, right above the opening of the two dangerous rocks. with a little swing and good timing, i cut the holds in time to send the viking toppling into the boat.

level 27:

start with the frozen vikings first. they should clog up the hole leading down the dangerous rock slide. cut down the unfrozen viking - this one should use the safe rockslide. to unclog the frozen vikings would be a simple matter at hacking away the extra ice around them.

level 28

this one's really fun. first you'll need to get the grabby boulder onto the slide. attach it to the ceiling and pop the blue lady underneath it. when it swings right in between the empty space between the two blue ladies underneath, cut it loose. this should give you enough time to attach each end of the ice holding the vikings onto each grabby, rolling boulder. pop the blue ladies to get it out of the way, and cut at the hand-like ice stand to get the vikings moving. cut them loose on top of the boat. ^_^

level 29:

cut up a small piece of ice from the bottom of the frozen viking. this would get the wooden wheel turning - on the other side. grab hold of the wheel, so that when you let the frozen viking down, its force would send the wheel turning the other way around.

level 30:

first cut right on the middle pivot (a cut slanting to the right wouldn't hurt, but slant it on the left and your viking's going to drown. ^_^) then two close cuts by the third pivot. this could either break the ice in between these two pivots, sending the two vikings down onto the boat, and you could just make another cut by the middle pivot to free the other viking. or the pivots will do their work and you can just watch the three vikings fall on the boat.

level 31:

you just need to create a flying ice with speed strong enough to knock the rock on which the viking is standing. once it hits with enough force, the viking will simply fall off the rock and onto the boat. (remember two opposite points on one target will get you swinging.)

level 32:

cut up a large enough portion of the flying rock, enough to push your grabby rock as close as possible to the viking. once close enough, you can grab hold of him and another portion of the flying rock. cut up the flying rock and when it falls into the water and pulls the grabby rock away from the formation, let your viking loose. he'll be able to slide down.

level 33:

pop the red lady, at the same time, cut a portion of the right end of the hammer, to get it swinging. at contact, cut the other end of the hammer. if all goes well, this cut up portion will propel the vikings close enough to the boat. when they're right beside the blue ladies one by one. this will make a floating rock rise above the vikings and force them onto the boat.

level 34:

here's something to try. cut the ice at the very top in the middle, followed immediately by the blue lady below the single devil on the right stack. if you make it, you'd be left with your three vikings on top of a wooden plank under five blue ladies. pop the two blue ladies right below the plank, then the two blue ladies on top of each other.

level 35:

on the left side, pop the green lady below the devil, then cut the rope holding the devil above on the rock. they should fall into the pit. cut the rock down on top of them. pop the green lady below your viking, cut the rope holding the other viking on the rock and they'll slide onto your boat. on the right, pop the green lady below the devil and say goodbye to the devil. grab hold of the viking with the grabby rock and pop the green lady. with that force, you'd be able to swing the viking onto the boat.

level 36:

slice a portion of the ice where the middle unfrozen viking stands (the one that's horizontal) enough for that ice slab to slide to the middle. get the topmost unfrozen viking down and to the middle beside the other one. slice the ice slab ( the horizontal one again) right below the two unfrozen vikings and they should be toppling onto the boat. (you'll need a few tries here, i had tons.) next would be the frozen viking above, (it's all a matter of hacking away at the ice slowly) and finally, the last frozen viking.

level 37:

tricky. secure the viking in the middle of the ring first with the grabby rocks then pop the blue lady. this should send you flying.
cut up at the left most flying rock to get the ring moving to the right and grab hold of the second viking. (or you could just wait, they'll fly to it.) cut down four crows and this should send you down. grab the third viking while going down and at the same time, set off the flying rocks. this should give you enough force to fly on top of the boat. once there, cut off the crows so they won't be able to fly you off.

level 38:

secure the viking first onto the closer grabby rock with two hands. cut off the ice. breath in deep and when you're ready, cut off the hands, but before it falls, catch it with one hand. this will get you swinging around the curve. again before it falls, grab it with a hand from the other grabby boulder. let it loose from the first grabby boulder, watch the viking swing and remember to cut it loose from the second boulder when it's above the boat.

level 39:

darn it, this one's hard. first, you gotta slice a smooth slide down the huge floating rock. (no you can't follow the groove where the the stack stands, the third viking will get stuck on it no matter how smooth it looks.) get the stack to fall onto the boat, slicing up the topmost rock (where the top viking stands) to ensure the viking won't slide into the water with the rock. get rid of all the cut up rocks with as little slicing as possible.

level 40:

slice up the ice where the viking's frozen in as sparingly as possible. you'll use it to get grabby boulder swinging. grab hold of the viking with two hands (remember the swinging thing), and use the ice part by part to get the grabby rock spinning by attaching the falling pieces to it. if the viking swings high enough it'll end up on one end of the wooden propeller. when it's there, cut it loose. ^_^

hope i made a difference. ^_^

Level 2:

Use the magic ball like a wrecking ball. Cut above and below the frozen vikings. Then attach the ball to the rock above. Cut the ice sheet below the ball and it will swing and hit the vikings into the boat.

Level six has me COMPLETELY stumped though.

Reply

Took me a while to get the idea of the "grab", but once you get that, it's fairly straightforward. Level 2 is somewhat annoying since the grab bit is not immediately apparent.

Level 2 spoiler:

Cut horizontal lines above and below the two vikings. Scroll right, and grab the boulder and attach it to the peg on the top overhanging piece. Then cut underneath the boulder to make it swing and hit the vikings onto the ship.

(Edit. Just a friendly reminder that when you use tags, use angle brackets instead of standard brackets or your spoiler tags won't work. Thanks. Kyle)

Having bigger non-scrolling screens would help this game immensely.

Reply

Level 2 isn't all that hard, you just have to position the grab point in the right place.

I'm stuck on level 6, I can't quite get the rock over to the viking.

The key here is to experiment and there is no penalty for restarting the level.

Reply

power of posting... I got it but ended up knocking the guy into the water.

Reply

I'd love to help on 6, but 5 isn't possible, so I don't know what 6 looks like. in 5, best case scenario, the wheel lands smack dab on top of the viking and moves him nowhere. most cases, he shoots to the left

Reply

I think the level desing is really bad. Levels are all to big and to complicated. I'm on level 17 now but all those big levels become a little boring now... Any help for level 17?

Reply

This version just isn't as much fun as the first one. Some problems for me:

  • Like the first one, scrolling around is just awful. I hate edge-scrolling, because you often end up scrolling at the wrong time (or not scrolling at the right time). I'd rather have a larger playing area, or be able to drag the mini view around.

  • Most of the levels start in a bad (ie: useless) location, meaning every failure requires scrolling around to try again. One level started over an almost all blank background, and there was only one tiny area of gameplay!

  • Some levels have two difficult, yet independent, steps, meaning you often go back and forth getting the first, but not the second, then the second but not the first, etc. Tedious. For example:

The level where you have to drop two vikings through a tiny hole in the instant-death rock. First you have to deflate the women-blocks, then you have to slice the second guy in the exact right spot. This is also the level with the absurd starting position.

  • Unlike the first one, most of the levels (like #2) don't seem to have solutions you can work out. You have to play by trial-and-error, and (unlike what a poster above mentioned), restarted erases your score. I don't care about scores, but why bother penalizing in a game that requires trial-and-error?

All-in-all, I was disappointed. I made it up to level 14, then just got tired of it. I liked the first one so much I have gone back and played it again, even though I beat it.

If they fixed the scrolling and the starting locations, that would help immensely.

Reply
Anonymous March 18, 2009 12:50 PM

Hey people for level 6

you can grab vikings w/ the grab rock

Reply

The solution for 10 takes some effort but its possible:

I had to trim down the ice cube that the viking is in to make it lighter, not sure if this is absolutely necessary though. Then, I killed the bottom two women on the top side of the wooden U shaped thing, and while the rest were falling, I killed the ones below the wooden thing. So while the top ones are falling, the wooden thing tips right, and when they hit, it launches the viking up just enough that the bird can keep him in the air long enough to get him over the boat.

Talk about ragequit. I gave up on level 22 after about 50 tries. It requires such a specific, fast combination of cuts just to get the viking PART of the way to the boat, and then there's a "no-cut" mist right at the bottleneck! It's needlessly frustrating. Screw the rest of this game.

Reply
stevedave March 18, 2009 1:04 PM

Oh, and 10 is easy:

Just pop the bottom 4 ladies in one slice.

And 13:

Cut the viking on the left first, near the top of the rope where the mist isn't touching it. Time the cut so that the rotating block pushes him into the boat.

For the right-hand viking, slice the ice-block to release the ball, which will send the viking swinging. Just cut the rope when it swings out of the mist and he'll slide to the boat. If you don't cut it when the ball drops, cut the pink/purple block vertically in half to send him swinging again.

COME ON! March 18, 2009 1:05 PM

Just fix the scrolling. If that was fixed in both versions it would be an absolute winner but right now I want to put my fist through the LCD it's so frustrating.

I just beat level 6 it is very inventive, DONT be afraid to have the grabby rock stay underwater, thats how i beat it :D
here is spoiler for level 6

when you start, have the grabby rock grab the rock which has sign on it, then once it swings underwater, have it grab rotating rock, then cut the link between the grabby rock and the first rock you grabbed, then add another link from the grabby rock to the viking that is trapped, the viking should start bouncing around and floating in air, once the viking is over the boat, cut the link, if the viking flies to the right between the rock he starts on and the other rock, cut the link holding grabby rock to the rotating rock, viking will be dragged into viking boat

hope that helps

Hit the fat lady with the rock so that she sends the viking flying onto the rock that grabs stuff. Once there use BOTH tips of the rock to grab the ledge at the very top of the screen. Cut the ice below the rock and gradually make your way over to the ship by cutting and creating new links with the grabby rock. Cut the link on the right so it drops the viking on the ship and your on your way to level 8!

Reply

Oops sorry for double posting but i forgot to add that

You may need to cut the ice around the viking as the grabby rock can get stuck on these ledges.

Reply

at lvl 6, it's possible to get the rock there... it's really hard but possible:

try to stop the rock between the 1st and the 2nd pinned rocks. then connect it to the rotating thing with 3 grabbers, and cut the other links. when the rock isn't going upper, reconnect the link to the bottom-left of the rotating stone. Do this as many times as needed to get it out. Then when it falls near the rotator, connect it to the viking. You don't need to totally get it out from the pinned rocks, but it's possible: http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp266/M_Peti/Flash%20games/icebreaker_red.jpg

To do level 7, it seems really hard, but what you do is before moving anything else hook up one end of the blue blue to the black rock above. Then Cut the ice under it to catapult the viking. Burst the lady to let him get into the blue rock. Then hook the other end of the blue rock above. keep moving it along and cutting ice in the way, and then cut one string and tip him in. Please say if I help you.

Finally, I did 14. It's really hard:

first, slice all smaller ladies. Then cut the rope near the viking at the left. It will land in the boat.
The righter viking is the hard one. Cut the righter rope of the wood he stands on. then 'open' the ice at the stone ball. cut the rope at the right ofthe big wood when the ball touches the wood. Timing is important, I was suprised when it worked - it took many tries to time right.

Reply

Level 14

pop little lady, then fat ladies from bottom up for first guy in boat....for the top guy on the swing, slice the swing vertically right between his legs and he'll usually fall straight down.

anyone get past 34? that one is just annoying.

stevedave: I'll agree that 22 is annoying, but might I suggest something:

don't cut both birds free at the same time, cut the left one first, and when the viking swings such that he'll fit through the hole, cut the right one off. of course, you'll have to trim the ice the viking is in while the birds are flying, otherwise he won't fit no matter what you do.

I finished the game! WHOO! Here's how:

You expect me to have finished the game that fast? However, I'd like to. I'm glad its out. I don't see any problems in games, like some complainers, but I enjoy them. Nitrome really delivered it this time. Oh, and you just got rick-rolled!

Reply

Ergh. Stuck on 29. Don't see any way to make the guy swing properly.

Reply

This game is WAY too hard. I can't even get pass level three! The made the ball to big to get over!
This is the worse game Nitrome ever made. Also, the only bad one.

Reply

Well I finally managed to finish. I think a good rule of thumb for those having problems with certain levels is:

keep it simple. on many levels its just a matter of making a few well thought out cuts, instead of frantically cutting and trying to compensate for one thing or another.

I liked the game, but the first one was much better. The grabby stones were a bit overused IMO, as well.

Reply

Level 24

grabby rock to tip of swinging triangle....grabby rock to vikings at same time...cut rope to grabby rock pulling floating vikings closer to ship...cut floating ice from grabby rock leaving grabby rock on turning triangle.....carve floating rock into thirds (one per viking) so it weighs less....re-attach grabby rock one by one to each viking swinging into ship!!

really cool game but i cant beat level 29 :-(

Reply

Although this game is more imaginative than the first, it's not as fun and lacks some replay value, since it's more difficult. Still good, though. Haven't run into too much trouble yet.

Reply

32 is easier than it looks :)

Use the grab block to grab the repelling block. Cut off a piece of the repelling block so the grab block shifts to the left of the boat. It's now close enough to grab the viking. Grab the viking, and do the same thing to pull the viking to the right.

With any luck, the viking will begin to slide down the slope :)

I'm on 34. It's hard ack!

This is my favorite nitrome game so far - challenging and inventive. I love it.. I didn't like the first ice breaker, but this is truly awesome. I love the level design and the creative grabbing block.

Level 7

Cut the blowing rock vertically to push the big lady and catapult the viking up to the sleigh. Tie the front and back of the sleigh to the ceiling with binding hands, so it becomes a swing. Cut away the big blocks of ice. Release the sleigh by removing the ice under it, and as it swings to the right cut the binding hands when it's above the ship.

Reply

Zoe --

That's a REALLY huge chunk of ice for that little guy to break all by himself.

Divide the chunk into two, separating the Vikings, and it should become manageable.

Level #26

The rock that your viking is standing on is one of those grabby rocks. The part that I didn't realize, which is the key to the level, is that you can grab the plain vikings with the grabby rock. So, just grab your guy and the fizzy rock and fly to the boat.

Reply

how about level 9?
it must be obviouse -A-'

Reply

What's the right way to beat level 9? I use the shooting block to knock the fat lady onto the seesaw, and the viking lands on the grabby sled. I maneuvered clumsily to the boat from there, but I keep thinkin' you were intended to save the shooting block to pull the grabby sled. Is that right?

Level 24 may be the worst one.

The new grabber ice is fun to play with. :-D Just passed the game. Some of it really took a lot of thought and patience. Level 37 (the flying cage level) took some effort as my guys kept swinging around wildly and dunking themselves into the water in spite of all of my efforts to keep them attached to the cage. I also found that massive amounts of floating blocks caused a fair amount of lag on my compy.

The best game I've played this year!

More challenging than the first one. I had a lot of fun with the "grab" stones. There are so many small contraptions you can make with them.

At level 33, so far so good. Only one thing should have been improved: scrolling.

Reply

level 33 is where I am losing hope, but I really liked the first one and the difficulty is perfect for a sequel. I like how there are so many different styles of puzzles.

lulu, if you're still having trouble I tried to explain how I did 31...

after grabbing an iceblock, attach it to the rotating block twice so you can just let it rotate and figure out the best time to let go. the attachment should be as long as possible without hitting the rock platform. I cut one rope at the top of the rotation, and cut the other right when my block was on the fast upswing. Keep in mind you only have to tap the block the viking is sitting on, since it rotates easily once pushed. It just takes one lucky throw...

any 33 hints? because I honestly have no idea.

Level 33

Cut off the right side of the hammer, pop the Brunhilde, and let it swing hit the boat. After that, you need to cut off the other side of the hammer so it'll go forward and wedge itself under the left side of the boat and push it the rest of the way.

Of all the levels that require a lot of blind idiot luck and repetition even after the solution is obvious, this one is probably the worst. Especially aggravating when you have to scroll all the way across the map for every attempt.

Level 29:

Cut the tip off the bottom of the hanging ice guy to start the wheel spinning. Wait until it spins where it will catch the guy and move him right, then fix it in that position with the grabber. Cut the guy free, then cut the grabber to make him fall to the right.

much harder then the first one. hrrm.

I managed to beat 34 after quite a lot of trying:

Slice like mad and hope for the best. I started with the top ice brick, then sliced the ladies on the right, then the left, hoping all three viking would end up on the horizontal wooden beam about half-way down, and not get eaten. Eventually it worked, and I carefully dumped all three into the boat.

On 33, to expand on the previous comment:

You cut a slice off of the right hand side of the hammer so it hits the boat. Then, at the right time (there's that blind idiot luck previously mentioned) you cut another slice from the uncut side of the hammer (on my level what ended up working was a thin rectangle, not a fat cut from the hammer). Hopefully that thin cut wedges itself under the boat and pushes it all the way to the other side.

You can grab vikings with the "hand" rock.

Thanks for the help on 9. I'd thought it was a vacancy I was supposed to try and hook around one of the pegs. That and I was trying to build a bridge (which doesn't work, no matter what you try.) And here I'd solved every level up to 9 on my own. I felt so proud of myself.

While you can depend on luck for level 33 if you want to, there is some clear logic behind the cuts you need to make.

First cut the right side of the hammer and pop the Brunhilde. This swings the hammer around and gets the ice raft going. The uncut side of the hammer is now facing the raft. If you cut too large a piece, it will sink. If you cut too large a piece it will fly away. But don't think that you only have to get lucky. If you cut the ice so the top of the piece you remove is wider than the bottom, it moves almost straight at the raft.

Try to cut just left of the bulge at the top and just right of the bulge at the bottom.

When you get to the inflatable ladies, don't forget:

Chop up your ice raft before you pop all the ladies or the vikings will be dumped right out on the other side.

Reply

Level 24

First cut the floating ice in three pieces, one for each viking. Than use the grab rock en connect it with the most right side of the rock above. Then connect it with two gloves to the turning rock and disconnect it from the rock above. Then carry the vikings one after another to the longboat.

Hope this helps ^^

Well, I think

it's best to do a vertical cut. I did it, and it was totally good.

Anyone got a better idea for level 34?

Reply

17-

The way I did it was first I cut both ropes holding the leftmost chunk in place, and let it fall into the slot. For the 2nd chunk, cut the rectangular part off the bottom so it falls, so that it fits into the slot below it. Don't cut the ropes, it's a trick. then just cut the ice part in the middle right under where the rat on top is, so the two rats and a large piece of ice fall into the water. This leaves a nice open space, so you can slice the ice piece on the back of the "sled", so your vikings should go sailing right into the boat. Joy!

Walkthrough

Level 1

Cut the vikings down one at a time and use the hand to swing the vikings into the boat before they hit the water

Level 2

Cut horizontal lines above and below the two vikings. Scroll right, and grab the boulder and attach it to the peg on the top overhanging piece. Then cut underneath the boulder to make it swing and hit the vikings onto the ship.

Level 3

First cut the ropes tying the birds together at the top, Then cut the rope holding the bird to the small boulder. Lastly cut the rope keeping the big blouder form rolling down the lower slope.

Level 4

Pop the women while making sure not to have the viking fall off the edge of the boat.

Level 5

you need to first kill the little rat guys, then drop the rock with a slash as far left on the ice as possible. this should drop it on the women in such a way that the viking gets shot off to the right. you will need to slash the women after.

Level 6

when you start, have the grabby rock grab the rock which has sign on it, then once it swings underwater, have it grab rotating rock, then cut the link between the grabby rock and the first rock you grabbed, then add another link from the grabby rock to the viking that is trapped, the viking should start bouncing around and floating in air, once the viking is over the boat, cut the link, if the viking flies to the right between the rock he starts on and the other rock, cut the link holding grabby rock to the rotating rock, viking will be dragged into viking boat- Here's a video I made for level 6: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF-KIBMiWT4&feature=channel

Level 7

Hit the fat lady with the rock so that she sends the viking flying onto the rock that grabs stuff. Once there use BOTH tips of the rock to grab the ledge at the very top of the screen. Cut the ice below the rock and gradually make your way over to the ship by cutting and creating new links with the grabby rock. Cut the link on the right so it drops the viking on the ship. You may need to cut the ice around the viking as the grabby rock can get stuck on these ledges

Level8

Break the ice thingy your ontop of and grab onto the rock edge below you... then while your swinging back and forth, try and land on the ice thats on your right. you will start to slide but grab onto the ice in between those two little metal pegs, then cut the ice out of there so you fall while holding the ice. now it gets tricky because you have to quickly grab onto the rock thats directly above the boat. cut the ice loose and when you swing over the boat cut your final hand... done

Level 9

The 'T' in the ice circle is one of those hand grabby things so I just cut a hole by the boat and pulled a tarzan.

Level 10

I had to trim down the ice cube that the viking is in to make it lighter, not sure if this is absolutely necessary though. Then, I killed the bottom two women on the top side of the wooden U shaped thing, and while the rest were falling, I killed the ones below the wooden thing. So while the top ones are falling, the wooden thing tips right, and when they hit, it launches the viking up just enough that the bird can keep him in the air long enough to get him over the boat.

Level 13

Cut the viking on the left first, near the top of the rope where the mist isn't touching it. Time the cut so that the rotating block pushes him into the boat.
For the right-hand viking, slice the ice-block to release the ball, which will send the viking swinging. Just cut the rope when it swings out of the mist and he'll slide to the boat. If you don't cut it when the ball drops, cut the pink/purple block vertically in half to send him swinging again.

Level 14

first, slice all smaller ladies.

Level 17

The way I did it was first I cut both ropes holding the leftmost chunk in place, and let it fall into the slot. For the 2nd chunk, cut the rectangular part off the bottom so it falls, so that it fits into the slot below it. Don't cut the ropes, it's a trick. then just cut the ice part in the middle right under where the rat on top is, so the two rats and a large piece of ice fall into the water. This leaves a nice open space, so you can slice the ice piece on the back of the "sled", so your vikings should go sailing right into the boat. Joy!

Level 20

first cut the rope of the two smaller ones, then when they are falling off the rock, cut the big one. If you time right, it will spin the woods for the small ones.

Level 22

don't cut both birds free at the same time, cut the left one first, and when the viking swings such that he'll fit through the hole, cut the right one off. of course, you'll have to trim the ice the viking is in while the birds are flying, otherwise he won't fit no matter what you do.

Level 24

grabby rock to tip of swinging triangle....grabby rock to vikings at same time...cut rope to grabby rock pulling floating vikings closer to ship...cut floating ice from grabby rock leaving grabby rock on turning triangle.....carve floating rock into thirds (one per viking) so it weighs less....re-attach grabby rock one by one to each viking swinging into ship!!

Level 26

The rock that your viking is standing on is one of those grabby rocks. The part that I didn't realize, which is the key to the level, is that you can grab the plain vikings with the grabby rock. So, just grab your guy and the fizzy rock and fly to the boat.

Level 29

Cut the tip off the bottom of the hanging ice guy to start the wheel spinning. Wait until it spins where it will catch the guy and move him right, then fix it in that position with the grabber. Cut the guy free, then cut the grabber to make him fall to the right.

Level 31

after grabbing an iceblock, attach it to the rotating block twice so you can just let it rotate and figure out the best time to let go. the attachment should be as long as possible without hitting the rock platform. I cut one rope at the top of the rotation, and cut the other right when my block was on the fast upswing. Keep in mind you only have to tap the block the viking is sitting on, since it rotates easily once pushed. It just takes one lucky throw..

Level 32

Use the grab block to grab the repelling block. Cut off a piece of the repelling block so the grab block shifts to the left of the boat. It's now close enough to grab the viking. Grab the viking, and do the same thing to pull the viking to the right.
With any luck, the viking will begin to slide down the slope :)

Level 33

You cut a slice off of the right hand side of the hammer so it hits the boat. Then, at the right time (there's that blind idiot luck previously mentioned) you cut another slice from the uncut side of the hammer (on my level what ended up working was a thin rectangle, not a fat cut from the hammer). Hopefully that thin cut wedges itself under the boat and pushes it all the way to the other side.

Level 34

Slice like mad and hope for the best. I started with the top ice brick, then sliced the ladies on the right, then the left, hoping all three viking would end up on the horizontal wooden beam about half-way down, and not get eaten. Eventually it worked, and I carefully dumped all three into the boat.

I'll add in the levels that are missing as people write how to beat them in the comments. Thanks so much to everyone who has been helping in the comments for this game! :)

On some levels, too much luck are required, especially 33 and 34. It seems a lot of people have the same feeling.

But overall, innovative level design. The Grab stone provides a second power source than gravity. A rare game which the squeal lives up to expectations.

instructions for level 19:

You can use the ice block on the very right as a stopper for the arm by cutting the left rope and having it get caught

After that, use the ball to flip the boat cut both ropes

then you can release the viking when the upsidedown boat is at a slant... providing momentum towards the arm

When the viking is directly below the arm, it is in position to be picked up by it... so time it well

REMEMBER TO CUT THE ARM the release the viking, otherwise it'll dunk the viking back into the ocean and you'll have to start all over again

For Those On level 6 I will give you a tip. You are allowed to grap the viking

Reply

I liked the first one better as it was more logic based and less luck based.
I also feel that the general puzzle design was better.

On the other hand, this was a great challenge, and I'm glad to be through.

A better way:
level 33.

Do not pop the fat chick. Cut across the nose of the hammer. Leaving a thin sliver connected to the handle of the hammer on both sides. then cut crossw-wise down the hammer. Making a v shape. When the V shape is the right weight it will land on the back of the boat pushing down into the boat, and off the back. Still needs trial and error but easier then that timing mess.

Reply

On Level 11, there's an easier way.

Just walk the grabby boulder along the bottom of the rock. Reach down to the Viking, grab him, then walk over to the boat and drop him.

Reply

for 30:

make a V cut

that's really wide on the left and really narrow on the right

for 34:

after you cut the ice, try only cutting ladies on the left side.

for 35:

you need to fill the pit with something before dropping in the rock

something or someone

for 37:

at the last turn when you're trying to get onto the boat, use the grabby rocks and attach to

that low ceiling, and then you can cut the birds off and possibly swing everybody right onto the boat.

for 40:

once you have the viking all set up, attach the grabby rock to the ice on the left, and use the two pins .

if you slice the top pin area from the bottom pin area just right, the momentum will be enough to swing the viking to the propellor.

I have a question. On lvl 33, which is the nose of the hammer?

Reply
BuenoCabra March 21, 2009 5:15 AM

On 33, there's a MUCH easier way:

Forget all the swinging hammer, making-a-wedge frustration. Just cut off a slice at the bottom right of the hammer (about from where the round part begins, down just to the right of the hinge) so that it drops down and flies forward.

Maybe mine was just dumb luck and can never be repeated, but it's got to be easier than the other solutions, even if you have to try a few times.

@solstice thanks for the walkthrough but your solution for level 27 doesn't work for me... the unfrozen viking can't get over the frozen vikings...

the walkthrough for the upside down wood filler one doesn't help. i can't get the 2nd one to turn over!

Reply

Evan, level 25:

for the middle wood filler you have to cut the rope to the right then at the right time cut the rope at the left. timing is everything.

Hope that helped.

ok.. so level 36.. i didnt understand anything anyone said so this is how i did it!!

ok so.. there is a viking standing on a horizontal platform... below that platfrom there is another horizontal "level" slice down that level on the left hand side next to the left tower of ice... your first viking should end up in the boat.
part 2... most of the right tower should be gone .. whatever is left needs to be cut up and removed APART from the bottom block which you need to cut the top off to create a slope into the boat. n
part 3.... slice diagonally (sloping inwards) under the other unfrozen viking and he should fall to the boat. then slice off the top of the other block of ice.. with the higher viking and he should fall in once being cut underneath.... the last viking is easy!

Reply

Tip for level 26 (different from walkthrough) :

Chip off a tiny piece of pink rock underneath the grabby rock to topple the viking to the left. I then attached the grabby rock to the flying rock at a few places, and to the viking, making a "boat" of sorts. I then cut the flying rock to get it moving. Surrounding the viking with the rocks minimises the chance that he'll touch the killer rock. With a steady hand, you can get him into the boat consistently.

YAYYYYYYY!!!

I did it lol!!

thank you on 33 beunocabra.....first try!!

Hi!
My solution to level 20:

first cut a straight line from left to right between the ice bricks in the middle and the ones on under them! then cut the rope, which still holds the right viking! then, when the two vikings are swinging to the left, cut thwe rope, which holds the "left" (now top) viking! If you do it at the right time, they will fly into the boat!

level 30:

first, cut from the left top corner to just below the middle pivot.
then make a horizontal cut all the way trough.
this should start the ice to turn upwards. before the vikings slide of the right side, cut the ice between the middle and right pivot. the vikings will all tumble down on the ship.

Level 18 Timing

Cut the right rope (of the boulder platform) right before the spinning thing turns into the C shape.

HI here is another way to win level 14 (i think its better)

First of all pop all the ladies, even the big one on the right. Then cut the right rope on the viking that is on the right swing and he will land on the wood piece just were the big ladie used to be. Leave him there and cut the rope of the othe viking( first pop all the little ladies) and he will fall in the boat. Then cut the rope that is left of the piece of wood that u cut first and let it fall in the ocean. Then cut the ice that is holding the ball in place so that it fall s on the piece of wood were the last viking is and cut the rope. The viking should fly and land in the boat.

Good luck!!!

Reply

if you cant get far enough toward the right on 33

You may get lucky from having a few hammer pieces flying around or you can cut strips off of the boat in the bottom left corner and when the vikings are on the big bubble piece you can cut the boat so they will fall on the big piece then cut the ladies and you can cut a pice in the top right corner to have them slide into the viking boat.

Reply

16 I'm stuck... I keep losing the level because the vikings fall too deep due to the rocks.

This game... is WAY too luck based, much like nitrome's other physics-based games, because of its bad design. Especially 33,34,37.

With 31, i started swinging it and without any cutting the rock started spinning and knocked the viking off

SOLUTION FOR LEVEL 7

attach 2 "grabbers" from the blue ice that looks like a ship to the dark rocks at the top of the map one at the front end of the blue ice and one at the back end. slice those two ice things and the blue ice thingy will act like a pendulum

Yay a third IceBreaker is coming out this month!

Reply

for lvl 23...

cut the strings related to the ice that holds the hanging wood up and then the wood down so that it lands "tooth-up"...then cut loose the flying rock so that it lands behind the wood...then cut the flying rock in half so that it pushes the wood. Then cut loose the viking once its over the boat.

hope it helped...8^)

On level 27, which order should I cut the frozen Vikings down in? Afterward, when I cut down the unfrozen Viking, he gets stuck on top of the others. Help!

Never mind! Sorry about that and the double post.

Reply

Why did I just make two posts again? I need specific help on level 39. Is there a video walkthrough somewhere? Thanks for any help. This is such a hard level! On the other hand, I'm about to beat the game! Yeah!

Reply

Just beat level 40! I used the walkthrough, but decided it had a bad strategy and made my own. It took a while to work, though.

Attach the grabby rock to the wood spinner just next to the center, to the right, while the spinner is horizontal. Make a double link between the grabby rock and the Viking, with both "ropes" right next to each other, then cut loose the Viking. Chop off all of the ice the Viking came from. You may need to make a separate connection between the Viking and the rock, redo the double connection, redo the single, etcetera, but eventually the Viking will swing so that you can cut it and it will fly in to the boat.

It is hard, but worked better for me than the walkthrough! I won with a score of 10 (I started at level 40 on that run). Phew, that was a hard game! Done with all three Icebreakers until Monday, when Icebreaker: The Gathering's third clan comes out! Yahoo!

I love this game, but I hate the scrolling and the screen is too small. If I'm just trying to grab or move the mouse to another spot, it shifts everything and messes me up.
