It may be in Japanese, but you don't need to grok the lingo to play Sanpoman's Hermit Crab Room, where you're locked in a room with a creatively crustacean flair, and if you want to escape, you'll need to crack a code or several to open the door. The cursor will change when it passes over something you can click on to interact with, and the transparent bars that pop up when you mouse over some edges of the screen can be used to move around the room or back away from certain things. Click on an item in your inventory to highlight it, then on the question mark icon to view it up close... some objects need to be activated by clicking around with them in this way before you can use them! Hermit Crab Room is decidedly bite-sized in a good way, and while it falls back on some classic escape game tropes (I may faint if I ever find a remote with batteries in it in one of these games), it's also satisfyingly clever and logical apart from a few sneaky hot spots. Whether you're passionate about cuddly little crabs too, or you just want a solid and cute escape to make your day a little brighter, Sanpoman has you covered with Hermit Crab Room.

That was very cute.
I found one fiddly spot:
Putting the lamp shade on the small crab. I must have clicked that little guy a dozen times before it finally "took."
And I couldn't believe I missed one obvious thing:
After making the couch code work, I forgot to do it the other way, as indicated in the clue. D'oh!
I'm stuck with
the candle tree. I see the lights I can press that are in the same pattern and I have a lighter and the remote that I've used on both lamp and crab. I also don't have a place for the left-right code, a flat thing to put in the big crab, or the second smallest shell. I have a feeling one of those comes from the candle code but I'm not sure how to make the candle code work.
You want to
use the lighter on them. :) As mentioned in the review, some objects, like the lighter, need to be turned on before they can be used. So click the lighter, then the question mark icon, and click the lighter's tab in the new screen to turn on the flame. The lighter can then be used to light the candles.
That was a cute little escape game!
I got a bit stuck there for a bit, because
I forgot about the yellow circle in the corner of one drawer, which then becomes
the hidden screwdriver in the top left corner of the crab cupboard
Also, I knew clicking on the hermit crab in the cupboard asked a question with a Yes/No answer, but wasn't sure about the question.
When you've obtained a lampshade to swap for the crab's shell, click on the crab and then the answer on the left ('hai', or 'yes').
Don't over-think the couch button code.
Follow the buttons from top to bottom (top most dot is in the middle, so press the middle button first).
Doing the exact same code in reverse will open up a different couch compartment with a second item inside.
That was so cute! I got stuck twice
once trying to find the screwdriver (it doesn't feel like an obvious hotspot), and the second time with swapping the hermit crab shell... I didn't realise it was asking me a question, so didn't realise I was meant to click on an answer. So I was kind of stuck for a while with that stupid lampshade, trying to put it on the crab!
It was otherwise short and sweet!
Hermit Crab Room Walkthrough

Exploring
Door View
There's a large hermit crab on your left. Zoom in to see that it has a slot in its head. Nothing we can do here for now.
There's a small cabinet on the right. It has a branch of candles we can't light yet.
Top shelf opens! Collect Hermit Shell #1
Bottom shelf needs a 3 number code. We'll come back.
Lamp View
The lamp has 3 lit bulbs. You can zoom in on each. One has screws on it.
There's a small chair to your right with clickable buttons, but we don't have a code yet
Dresser view
There's a small table with a box that needs a half-circles code.
The dresser has 3 drawers & a mirror.
The mirror is dirty and we can't clean it yet.
But look above it - oh! A code of half-circles!
Try looking at the plant
Collect a very tiny Hermit Shell #2
The left drawer won't open - it doesn't seem to have a handle
The middle drawer needs a code of light buttons. It seems to match the candle branches.
The right drawer opens! Collect a Remote.
It has a button that toggles from a lamp & a crab.
Flip it over to see that... it has no batteries. Oh, this IS an escape game.
Shelf View
Here, there is an empty shelf with 5 circles. We can place the Hermit Shell we have on it, but we don't have enough yet.
There's one more thing to collect here - it's a bit hidden
The bottom-right of the shelf has a Battery
