Grow Cannon

SteveRise and shine, it's a brand new day! Did you sleep well last night? You've got to resist the urge to hit that snooze button, or worse, smash your alarm clock with a hammer, or else we'll have no choice but to bring in... The Cannon. Just released from On at Eyezmaze, a new and very different kind of GROW game. In Grow Cannon, you've got to fire your cannon to hit all the right spots in the right order to wake the snooze-abuser.

Best of Casual Gameplay 2011In most of the previous games in the GROW series, you've been given a series of items that can only be used once per game to try to level up all the objects in the right order. Here, you're only given a cannon and ten cannonballs, but you have seven locations to aim at. Move your mouse to the left or right edge of the screen to survey the terrain, then use the cannon strength indicator at the bottom of the screen to finalize your aim. Click on the indicator to fire away, and watch the result!

The goal, as usual, is to find the correct sequence of choices to increase all of the elements on the playing field to their maximum level. Keep in mind that with more cannonballs than locations to fire at, you'll have to hit some areas multiple times. After you've fired your ten shots, all your hard work will be put to the test as everything you've developed tries to awaken the sleeping man. If you can knock out his 1000 health points (sleep points?), you've won the game, and alarm clock justice has been served! But with ten balls to hit seven locations in the proper order, we figure there are probably 282,475,249 combinations to try. Can you find the right one?

On delivers once again with another logic puzzle that brings together charming animations, a slew of familiar characters, and a devious task to wrap it all together. If you're a fan of the GROW series, you're in for a treat, and even if you're new to the experience, there's never been a better time to tackle a fresh puzzle from a very talented creator. So, line up your shot, and fire away!

I'm Stuck....

Have figured out that

456433 seem to go in sequence and you need two 2's to get a rocket

but other than that i am wholeheartedly stuck

Reply

JIGuest - there's another way to get

a rocket... but you're almost on the right track, pardon the pun.

Does anyone know if this has more than one ending?

Reply

This is nice. :D I except something big from the bear, but oh well... :)

Oh, and I wonder if this has an alternate ending too...

This is adorable. Especially because I sympathize with the sleeping guy! Some mornings it seems like nothing will wake me up.

I also like that On is stepping out of the same 'click on icons' mechanic from the last many Grow games while keeping the same wacky dependencies between each step/item.

Finally, the last step? Brilliant. I had to try every possible combination before I hit on the correct final step

Reply

lol, I loved how the last point of damage was done. It took me FOREVER to figure out which one it went to, but it is the first Grow puzzle I've done by myself.

I'll wait and see if there is an alternate ending. I'm sure there is, I just don't have the patience to find it.

Reply

I enjoyed all the other Grow games, but I'm finding this one to be even better than all the rest. The "shoot the spot" game mechanic gives a lot more flexibility, allowing me to experiment with different combinations without having to start the game over each time.

The one minor suggestion I have for these games is to make each animation skippable after you've seen it before. Once I've figured out all but the last one or two steps, it becomes tedious to keep restarting and waiting through all the animations to try a new combination of end steps.

[Each of the animations is skippable and this is indicated by a small red arrow icon at the tip of the mouse cursor during an animation that is skippable. You'll notice this icon at the very beginning of the game, and each time you click to fire the cannon. -Jay]

Might be andyou, I beat it and I did not shoot the spot closest to the sleeper.
My way frome left to right, 4564341235. I will see what shooting at 7 does and post later.

Waggles did you shoot at 7, if so post your way.
Sorry for the double post, I saw Waggles post as posted mine.

Well, i didnt actually got a different ending, but i got a change of events right here.

I was trying

to get the teddybear, before the last cannonbal. See if it could actually do something if you have a shot left. I just followed the order in which you have to complete it, I made the foot before the train though, so I could make the teddybear with one shot left, and after I did, the train (small, pink one) came around, the teddybear got some small wheels, and just hooked up after the train, and then they both left!

Don't know if this will lead anywhere, but thought i should mention it :).

Where, uh, where does he pull those flowers from?

And I'm anticipating an alternate ending, too.

Reply

If there isn't an alternate ending involving aliens, I will be disappointed.

Reply

Oh fun! Just what I needed this Monday morning. Heh, I felt a lot like the poor sleeping guy...

Not too tricky, though that last point of damage stumped me for a little while. I think my favourite part was the

animation of the dragon falling asleep

, it was super cute.

Alternate ending, anyone? I found plenty of (not-so-successful) alternate pathways the events could take, which I love about the grow games, but no other ending(s).

(Was pleased when I unlocked a change in music, though. That one initial loop was verrrrry short.)

Reply

Marty,

I've been searching for alternate combos... but I can't figure out what you did. How did you...

Make the foot before the train? Don't you need the little train conductor caveman guy to make the dragon into the bones?

Or did I misread that?

Thanks :)

D'awwwww! (the cute version)

Maybe "Squeee!" is better...

Reply

Elle,

You are right. It may be a little confusing how I explained it right there :p.

As you said, you do need the train and the caveman guy to kill the dragon, and get the bones. But there is one key thing, you dont have to fully upgrade the train.

Just keep the train small and pink :p.
Hit the caveman once with a cannonball, so he gets the treasure from the dragon, and kills him. After that, complete the foot. And then, shoot a cannonball at the foot, so it rolls all the way back, and hits the little stone. That creates a teddybear, and you still have one shot left :).

But i didnt know what to do with my last shot. Because, like i said, the teddybear and pinky train just sorta ride away together :p.

Hope that cleared it up a bit!

Marty

In response to this:

"[Each of the animations is skippable and this is indicated by a small red arrow icon at the tip of the mouse cursor during an animation that is skippable. You'll notice this icon at the very beginning of the game, and each time you click to fire the cannon. -Jay]"

You can skip the animation of the shot being fired, but you still have to watch the results of the shot being played out. It did get a bit redundant for me as well when I had 5-6 steps figured out and just needed to get the last ones.

You can avoid using the train at all to get the bear; i did:

if you hit the berry that grows at night a second time it will blow up and then bring the bones out

4551214535

what i just did on that try is hit the foot again and a bear came out and had 4 heads for a second or something; there is clearly something else here, but i don't think an alternate ending. The alternate endings to the other games would say FIRE or something [i forget the alien one, was it UFO?] instead of saying MAX. I do believe there is something else that can be done to alter it though. Unless it is just more animations to fill up the possible ways?

Reply

If you scroll back to the left once you finish, there's a nice easter egg.

Reply

I am pretty sure that this game has over 3,628,800 possible combinations...

why did this have to come out on the night before my chemistry exam Q.Q

Reply
Patreon Contributor kingjulien86 January 31, 2011 9:35 PM

@Sam N - There are 5040 possible combinations (7! or 7 factorial). It's still a lot, but there are only a few which give the right solution (On does like to make alternate endings).

Reply
Patreon Contributor kingjulien86 January 31, 2011 9:37 PM

Nuts that's wrong. There are seven options for each of ten shots. I think you're right Sam N. Can anyone confirm that?

Reply

Are there any fun animations outside of the winning sequence?

Reply

Thanks Marty! That makes sense :)

Not my favorite Grow game... but still a Grow game, all of which are too fun and addicting!

Some hints and tips for people who are stuck but don't want to use the walkthrough:

Some things behave differently depending on whether it's night or day. More specific hint:

The berry that grows at spot 5 is special if it grows at night, and the train at spot 3 will only arrive during the day.

If a character looks around with a little question mark above their head, it means they're able to react to an object near them - they'll do something different depending on what is there. More specific hint:

The pond-dwelling creature at spot 6 and the little pink guy at spot 4 will both notice something at 5.

Just because something is maxed out doesn't mean you can't get anything else to happen by shooting it. More specifically:

I'm talking about the giant foot here.

I actually think that it is 6^10 combinations because the last shot doesn't do anything. (then again, the secret ending probably requires you to shoot there at one point in time

Reply

Valtiel, great hints! I think I would have loved to have had those while I was trying to figure it out. As it is, I figured it out without help, and was surprised reading the comments here that my path to solving seemed so different from everyone else's:

Once I had the creature in the water eat the fruit in the daytime and nothing happened, I just assumed that this was a false path, and never tried it again. (I had a similar problem with hitting the caveman and having him not react, thus assuming that hitting him served no purpose in any circumstance.) After all, as I don't see anyone mentioning in their comments, if you start with 4-5-5, you get the bones without having to summon the dragon, and the foot seemed too obvious a part of the solution for this not to be the opening sequence.

I'm also fascinated that people were stumped on the bear being the last step. Having started so early with the foot, I figured out early how to summon the bear, and of course soon found out that you can't keep the bear if you summon it before fully upgrading the train. It seemed logical that the bear was the very last step. (Also it seemed clear that it added an ironic touch that the bear would finish the sequence the way it does.

ecru:

How do you get the caveman with no item? Oh, wait, duh. Start with 3, right? I did that once, realized it was a bad choice, and never played it through to the end.

These grow games are too fun to do with cheats for me, because even the wrong paths lead to interesting situations.

Love these games. I only check jayisgames once in a while but I glad I took time out of my day to see this before it become hidden.

has anyone found out if theres a secret ending yet?

TheSmartKid February 9, 2011 10:54 AM

There are 7^10, or 282475249, different combinations.

Also, does anybody know thae use of the 7th spot? It might be key to the secret ending, if there is one. Also, shooting a cannon ball into the 1st spot again makes the ball hit the 7th spot. Coincidence?

Reply

ok i found out something weird, it has nothing to do with the ending or secret ending but it's still strange.

if you make the foot before the dragon and make the bear before the train, you get the bear train thing. PEOPLE ALREADY KNOW THIS! but if you roll a ball down the foot again it hits an invisible bear and splits his head 4 way.

i found another thing...

if you make a hole next to the pond without using the foot then shoot a ball through that hole using the foot, then it does something crazy.

Hold up, darkid you said that if you scroll left you see a nice Easter Egg.
However, when I tried, I got a pink flower... Maybe it just changes each time.

Okay, and I also wanted to say that ThSmartKid is correct. The first and seventh spot are connected. I'm guessing that this COMPLETELY leads to the secret ending, but one could never be too sure.

Okay regarding the possible outcomes, I think that it is 10 * 9 * 8 * 7 * 6 * 5* 4 as there are 10 shots you use, and only 3 slots. So 10 - 3 = 7 so you only use the first seven digits of 10! (10 factorial). The answer, or so I believe, is 604,800

Reply

This is the answer to the game:
4564341235

(e.g: 4=the 4th square in the game etc.!)

"Hold up, darkid you said that if you scroll left you see a nice Easter Egg.

an "easter egg" is when you click somewhere on the screen and an extra video or sneak peak appears.
P.S. sorry for any spelling errors. :P

Did you actually play the game or just glance at the beginning? You can't skip the animations. All that the skip icon actually skips is the cannon firing and the ball travelling in the air; once the ball gets where it's going and triggers the corresponding animation, you're stuck there til it's done.

[I did play the game, but I realize now my comment above was not 100% accurate. My apologies. -Jay]

@Marty

What if the alternate ending is that we cancel every wake-up call (everything at lvl 0) and have the sleeping guy miss his wedding? That might be the alternate way!!!!

(now just to figure it out.....crap)

"Hold up, darkid you said that if you scroll left you see a nice Easter Egg.

I didnt get a pink flower... I got a white one. Or did you mean to say white? Because the flower I have is most definitely white.

Reply

The white flower at the end (when you scroll far left) is where the cannon use to sit. I assume the cannon, since the balls are used up, disappears and you are left with a white flower. It doesn't appear to be part of an alternate ending.

Reply

I figured out how to get all level 0, and it doesn't work. Sorry. :-(

Reply

If you make the foot appear and then the bear, and then send another ball down, hitting the bear, it's head will split into 4 for like a second. So the people who are getting this AFTER the bear left it's probably just a little glitch. I don't think there's an alternate path.

Reply

not the ending, but is cool: 4,5,5,1,2,4,3,5,5,5 the bear is funny

Reply

...So I successfully managed, on my first try, to get everything at level zero.

Do I get some kind of special prize for that?

Reply

I think that the flower is left there because the cannon and it's balls were two angel...thingies. you see them become angels at the wedding and watch over them.

Reply

Finally.. Max out.. :D
