Ghostscape 3D

DoraIn Psionic's jumpscare-tastic horror escape game Ghostscape 3D, you've always believed in the paranormal, despite the best efforts of a local reporter to paint you as crazy in his column. You're a little surprised and suspicious, then, when you get a letter from him inviting you to come see "something the likes of which you've never seen before, or ever will again", and cautioning you to come alone. Armed with only your trusty camera, you soon find yourself trapped inside... now who could have predicted that? To play, just click to interact... your cursor will change when you mouse over something you can look at, use, or move to, displaying helpful text, though sneakily some things you can interact with won't do change your cursor or show text at all. Open your inventory by clicking the big "i" in the upper right corner, which allows you to read any notes you've found, check on your progress for collectibles and objectives, and equip items for use by clicking on them. Your camera is going to be a pretty valuable tool... while sadly you can't use it to photograph puzzle clues, taking pictures of certain things like paintings or the glowing white orbs will check things off your list of objectives. Just be careful... this place has more than a few skeletons in its closet. Well... bodies, really. Parts of them. Maybe you should have worn gloves.

Playing Ghostscape 3D largely reminds me of going through those haunted houses at theme parks during Halloween... it's over the top in a gleefully ghoulish sort of way, with blood and gore galore and plenty of jumpscares, some more obvious than others. While navigation can sometimes be tricky due to a tendency to cram some area transitions down into wee little corners, the game's emphasis on atmosphere through light and sound crafts a claustrophobic escape game that feels like it calls to mind campy horror classics in the best possible ways. It's not really what you'd call a difficult game, since most of the puzzles come down to finding items strewn about, and largely the obstacles that require codes can simply be brute forced if you're really stuck. It's a little frustrating that the epilogue is locked unless you track down all the notes, tapes, and ghostly photographs, especially since finishing the game clears your save file, so you'll have to start all over from the beginning whether you needed one more item or half a dozen. Still, Ghostscape 3D's sheer gory creepiness, upped by listening to the well-acted audio logs, makes it the perfect break-sized creepy adventure for fans of pulpy horror like Phantasmagoria: A Puzzle of Flesh (I heard that, Curtis). Subtle things like shadows flitting out of the way of your flashlight, or furniture trembling as you pass by, craft a wonderful sense of menace, with the power of Unity giving the house itself a real presence and depth. Maybe the next time you'll think twice about going inside a strange house with a front yard littered with graves and a plethora of pentagrams for ornamentation... that is, assuming there is a next time for you...

Where is the tool for the valves?

Someone should let Psionic know that his walkthrough link does not open in a new window.

Hi Cyberjar88!

You can find the spanner for the valves in

The attic! If you turn left upon entering you'll see a corpse hanging from the rafters. Move the barrel in front of the corpse to find the spanner on the floor.

By any chance, is the 5th note

beside the fridge?

Reply

The fifth note is:

Has the search for the note DRAINED you?

Do you feel like you should be BATHED in clues?

Drain the bathtub full of blood.

Tried to play this, but couldn't download the plug-in :(

Reply

Well, that was uplifting!

Reply

When I tried the game using IE, I was able to download the needed plug in to play.

Well I was all happy about the continue feature...but I accidentally quit Safari and it erased half my progress :(.

I'll play again later.

I never figured out how to do whatever you were supposed to do with orbs. And I couldn't work up my nerve to go in the bathroom.

Maybe another day...

The orbs...

...are used in the pentagram ritual in the Cellar. Put them in the five slots at the points of the star on the floor.

Good luck, sunnylauren, if you decide to play again! :)

Trinn: I think you mean obsidian spheres The orbs x 10

not necessary to complete the game, but needed to see the epilogue at the end. The orbs are the tiny floating lights you see occasionally

I used the camera to click on them. It seemed to work

I cannot play this game in Firefox or IE. I have the latest Unity plugin, and web player download.

It begins to load, then defaults to blank jayisgames page.

Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

Ah, you're right Kay!

Just like the paintings, photographing the wisps to release their spirit is a bonus objective.

I tried

clicking the orbs with my camera, but it didn't do anything. Maybe it was buggy. I'll see what happens if I do it this way when I play again...which will be now!

I loved Ghostscape 1 and 2, so I'm thrilled there's a 3...I just hope nothing's so scary I spontaneously close the window!

Is anyone willing to spoil if

anything scary comes up in the mirror in the bathroom? That's a thing for me...

Thanks, Dora! :)

I've gotten as far as the end now, but I am missing

One note and one tape. It's annoying that they're not on the video walkthrough. I've scoured the house and can't manage to find them.

I'll keep trying! I really want to make it to the epilogue!

Just found the last note via another poster's clue!

And the tape I was missing was actually #1, so I

assumed it had to be in the main room. It was sitting

on a chair in the corner near the stairs, off to the left.

Okay then! That was, um...

I really expected that getting the epilogue would mean I defeated the Relentless. To be honest I would've strongly preferred it. Not so much of a fan of a evil-wins game :( . I didn't expect fluffy bunnies all over the place, but I was hoping that I could defeat the monster, especially since the character who wrote the notes said the pentagram thing was for that purpose.

I understand that this is a fictional game so it doesn't legitimately upset me, but I don't play games for endings like this. It was a disappointment that even having found all the items there was no option to defeat the Relentless.

Anyway...so, that aside, I have questions. What happened? Did I become the Relentless? And were the hikers a reference to Ghostscape 2?

Also,

Of the three, I like Ghostscape 2 the best. Part of it is my love of the hiking backstories and lust for the edge of a mountain, but also it seemed less "evil" and more of a ghost story.

Dora,

That makes a lot of sense, especially considering that the reporter and the main character had always been enemies. it would explain why the reporter would "do a favor" for the paranormal investigator.

I wonder if

Psionic intends for this to be Ghostscape's last installment, since the main character died/went mad/whatever. I mean, he could make another with a different main character, but it makes me wonder if he doesn't intend to make a fourth one.

SOLVED: Was on an old XP machine. Game runs great for me on newer OS.
Great game, on many levels. The layered, audio and visual background effects build, and begin tugging on the old fear reflex. Great stuff.

Hi SunnyLauren,

This is not the last Ghostscape! Although they are all related there will probably be a twist that saves our intrepid hero at the start of Ghostscape 4 (When I make it)

That's great news. I'm so glad to hear the hero will be saved, and now with the hope of good triumphing I eagerly await the sequel :).

Si has broken down his creative walls and has found himself in some new, incredible territory.
This game is a "Room Escape Masterpiece"!
I am really looking forward to another Chapter of this sort of environment. Even better: It would be incredible if he were to soon release Chapter 4 of his Killer Escape series using this type of player environment, the effortless controls, and the challenging necessity to think of what items are in which (of many!) rooms...
Keep up the great work, Si!
