Fearless Fantasy

JohnBFearless Fantasy is a combat-centric role playing game created by Enter Skies, the small two person indie studio that also created Memohuntress. It ditches all the in-between stuff found in RPGs, such as overworld map traversing and endless dialogue trees, in favor of stats, skills, items and pure, smooth, delicious combat. Layered on top of that is a simple but enjoyable story that's got a runaway princess, a sarcastic hero, and at least one enemy who lost the battle because he has a hole in his sock.

Fearless FantasyFearless Fantasy is all about combat. Each encounter sets up a number of enemy waves populated by a variety of surreal creatures. When a character is ready to attack, choose between basic moves or unleash a special ability if the situation calls for it. Click your victim and, depending on the move, small arrows will appear on the screen. Swipe your cursor through these arrows, hitting as close to their centers as you can. The more accurate you are the more effective your attack will be. Similarly, when enemies attack you'll have red defense arrows to swipe through to reduce damage. Mastering the swipes will often mean the difference between winning and losing a battle. Once an area is clear, you'll get to pop over to the shop to upgrade skills and buy items, gadgets and weapons. Gotta be ready for that next wave of matryoshka plants and mobile muffins, right?

The artwork in Fearless Fantasy swings from cute to creative to downright psychedelic. Some of the enemy attacks were taken right out of your worst trippy 1960s nightmares. Fortunately the game's humor always takes front chair, keeping the mood lighthearted and entertaining no matter how many spikes that thing has on its back. It's the sort of game that catches your interest right away and will continue to impress you with its depth of strategy and increasingly epic attacks the longer you stick with it.

So...Epic Battle Fantasy if it cost money and had different graphics, then?

Pass.

Xindaris. It is not Epic Battle Fantasy.
Fearless Fantasy has the unique battle swiping system. Epic Battle Fantasy does not. If you tried it or watch the trailer of Fearless Fantasy, then you'll realize they're completely different games. And Epic Battle Fantasy does charge money as well on Steam.

Fearless Fantasy = "Click your victim and small arrows will appear on the screen. Swipe your cursor through these arrows, hitting as close to their centers as you can. The more accurate you are the more effective your attack will be. Similarly, when enemies attack you'll have red defense arrows to swipe through to reduce damage. "

In Epic Battle Fantasy = "Select attack > Select enemy > sit back and do nothing". And when an enemy attacks you, you sit back and do nothing.

So..EBF with action commands. Not that big a deal.

And EBF is still available for free, which is a pretty important distinction.

Cool story :)
