For anyone who has ever had trouble finding a link to that great little Flash game, this new feature is for you.
I just finished implementing a Favorite Games List where you can select the games you like and have them appear in the sidebar above all the others, every time you visit. Simply drag and drop the game icons onto the spaces provided, click Save Favorites to save your changes, and voila! Favorites saved for every time you visit.
Of course, cookies must be enabled for this feature to work. And don't worry about the cookies, the only information I save are the favorites you choose, and the current stylesheet information. If you have any questions at all, leave a comment, but I am hoping I made it simple and usable for most anyone to jump right in with. Click.
Many thanks to Walter Zorn's excellent open source drag-n-drop DHTML library. I was able to extend it to do 'zactly what I wanted to do. =)
ooh baby ooh baby ..
thats some sexy scripting right there jay.
..very spiffy :-)
(even though drag-n-drop doesn't seem to work right in my firefox; but clicking on it works just fine)
I'm sure there will be issues with it in some browsers, but the drag and drop engine is pretty solid. Ooops, I forgot to post a link to the source. I'll fix that now.
silly DHTML. =P it's still very cool. You just keep addin nifty stuff to the blog .. see what happens when your not so bogged down with coursework?
Why don't put an "add to favorites" link on each game page ?
That's an excellent idea, NiKo. Thanks for suggesting it.
Tested on Mac Safari, Drag n' Drop does not work. Alternative, i double-click the game icon box, to move it into favorites. It seems worked, so I clicked 'Save Favorites' and it leads back to main page. I don't see Favorites navigation category in the main page.
Just giving you my feedback about Mac users.
Good job, I really like that kind of drag 'n drop menu!
Thanks for the feedback, David, it is very much appreciated. I was not able to test it on a variety of browsers, so I did believe there would be some compatibility issues with it. Next week when I return to the labs at RIT, I will see what I can do for all the Mac users.
PC Firefox also seems to have an issue with the drag-n-drop, well not so much the dragging as the dropping. However, reloading the page makes everything right.
The other issue of not saving your favorites sounds like a cookie problem. I will look into if the Mac requires something different. IE was giving me the same trouble at first, but I was able to isolate the problem and fix it. Hopefully I will be as lucky with Safari.
Thanks again for the feedback, it really helps alot!
