You say you've had a tough week so far, and it's not over yet? Want to play something relaxing and zen for the mid-week? Lucky for you that Robamimi has got you covered with their delightful new room escape, Fake, a fantastic new game with an amusing fake-out ending that is perfect for this week's Weekday Escape.
As you watch the narration of the opening scenario you might think Robamimi been playing too many Tesshi-e escapes. After all, the set-up of your soon-to-be boss calling you to a hotel room and then finding yourself locked in as a test seems to come right out of the Tesshi-e playbook (although, seriously, who in their right mind goes to a hotel room for a job interview?). Once you are locked into the mysterious hotel room you can enjoy a jaunty little tune and Robamimi's standard lush backgrounds, even in an impersonal space such as this. The puzzles you need to solve to find your way out are amusing but not Robamimi's toughest, most of the delight is the unfolding story and the fake-out ending (thus the title). Robamimi games have everything a room escaper could ever want, a changing cursor, an easy-to-use inventory, a save function, and their usual built-in hint feature which make Fake a smooth escaping experience.
Although the puzzles are not quite as difficult or as elegant as, say, Hermit Rabi, there's still a lot of fun to be had with this amusing little number. Best of all is the ending, which is much funnier than expected and makes all of the effort worthwhile. For those who've had a tough week and even for those who haven't, here's a perfect way to celebrate the day, and what could be better than that?
Note: If you have trouble connecting to the game try Robamimi's alternate site.

you were asked to go to a hotel room, but then found yourself locked in...
a small, dull, hotel room
Fake hint-through
LOOKING AROUND
Bed
The bed has drink cards on it.
Pillow
You can look under the pillow.
A key!
Bedside table (left)
There is a packet of cigarettes on top.
The drawer is locked and you need a code.
A safe has three colour-coded dials.
Bedside table (right)
There is a clock on top, and you can set the time.
The drawer is locked and needs a key.
The yellow safe has no dials or keypads.
Look out the window
See the city at night.
The wall alcove
A wooden box is on the left, it needs a code.
A laptop is on the right, it needs a user name.
A wall with a wardrobe, and the room entrance
The wardrobe also needs a code...
The door to the room is locked.
There is a card reader near the door, but we don't have a card.
SOLVING
Use the key
The drawer on the bedside table (right) is locked.
Unlock it, and get a fake blue diamond,
and a card holder containing eight business cards.
Use the cards
There are lots of cards for one person, and a few other cards.
Can you guess who is the hotel room guest?
What item wanted a user name?
Use the laptop
Enter the guest's first name in the laptop.
RYO
Your boss tells you your mission, what else is on the screen?
It looks like a system clock, where else is there a clock in the room?
Use the clock
You can set the time here, but what to?
What about the clock time from the computer?
9:35?
But, looking out the window, did you notice it was nighttime?
Annoying digital devices with their 24 hour time!
21:35
Oh...another code: 12, 03, 09, 03, 06, 12. hmm...
Use the code from the clock
A code from a clock, using only 3's, 6's, 9's, and 12's?
This makes me think of four compass point directions, or something like that...where could we use that?
The wardrobe door lock had four buttons pointing in different directions...
Unlock the wardrobe door
Use the code from the clock to open the wardrobe door.
12, 03, 09, 03, 06, 12 translate to...
up, right, left, right, down, up
Look inside the wardrobe
There are some ties, a briefcase that needs a code, and a shopping bag.
Look inside the shopping bag
There is a present, and inside that...
a thank-you card, and some shoes.
Look at the shoes
Strange shoe sizes! Where have we seen stars before?
Open the bedside table (left)
Look at the shoes...
I'm sure you can guess what those stars mean...
The two buttons on the keypad for the drawer are marked with filled-in stars...
"reading" the shoes from top-to-bottom, we know we need to press the buttons in the order...
right, left, right, left, left, right
Look inside the bedside table (left)
Another fake diamond,
and a leather-bound notebook,
with two clues.
Open the bedside table safe (left)
Look at the clue in the notebook.
The first clue has uses the same colours as the safe, what about the words?
If I suggested that "tobaccoes" means cigarettes, and "name cards" means business cards, I bet you would guess the code...
count the items...
There are 6 cigarettes in the packet on top of the bedside table, 5 ties in the wardrobe, and 8 cards in the card holder.
658, click each button the correct number of times...
We get another fake diamond!
Unlock the briefcase
What code should we use on the briefcase...
What about that thank-you card?
It is thanking Sakura for her e-mail...
We can't see anything on the laptop about Sakura, what other information do we have?
Check Sakura's business card...
Look at her email address, it's has a code in it!
Use the 4-digit code on the briefcase...
0428
Look inside the briefcase
There is a strange gadget with places for four diamonds,
and a photograph of a keypad.
Use the keypad photograph
When I look at it closely, I am reminded of something else I have seen...
the second clue in the notebook!
What did that clue say? home, right, end, left, home? so that's...
7, 6, 1, 4, 7. So where have we seen a 5-digit code?
On the wooden box...
Open the wooden box
Use the clues from the notebook and the keypad photograph to solve this (see above), the code is...
76147
We get another fake diamond!
Use the fake diamonds
Do you remember the strange gadget in the briefcase? Let's try it out...
Nothing!
So we didn't do that bit right...what clue are we missing...and there's that "First ABCD" message too...
Look on the bed. The drink cards there are the same colour as the fake diamonds, also...
The drinks are called "Campari", Apricot, "Blue moon", and "Daiquiri"...
Hey! The drinks start with ABCD!
So matching the colours with drinks beginning A, B, C, and D, we get...
yellow, blue, red, and white
We get a card...
Use the card reader
The card reader near the hotel room entrance needs the card we got out of the briefcase, after we used all those fake diamonds (see above)
The card reader tells us that the safe is locked, there is a code "12345", and some buttons with strange symbols. With such an obvious code, keying it in is the tricky part...
The strange symbols are all variations on patterns with squares.
Shall we count the squares?
(just the white ones)...
Click the buttons until the first one shows a symbol which has one white square, the second symbol shows two white squares, and so on.
Press "OK", and it tells us that the safe is open!
We'd better go and look at the only closed safe left, the one in the bedside table (right).
Open the yellow safe
The card reader will let you open this safe (see above).
We get a piece of paper,
and blue flashlight (already on!)
Use the flashlight
Hmm...can't use the flashlight on the piece of paper that was near it, so what else could the paper and flashlight be for?
The paper says it's from "Ocean"...
And there was a business card from "Ocean"...
Use the flashlight on it.
We get a code: "TIME4"
Use the code from the flashlight
This code is "TIME4"...
Look at the clock.
I suppose if we look at the time on this clock, we get 4 digits, and if we put a "4" on the end, we get another 5-digit code, using only the numbers 1-5...
I think it's time we had another look at the card reader.
Enter the code "21354" using the symbols as you did earlier, and press "OK"
Oh dear, :(
