Escape to Mr. Y's Office Room

In Tesshi-e's Escape to Mr. Y's Office Room, the titular Mr. Y, who as you know is a fan of both escape games and the Detective Conan anime, has sent you a letter inviting you to check out his newly renovated office. Turns out just getting in is a puzzle in itself, but would you expect any less? To play, just click to interact, and make sure you check everywhere and anything since there's no changing cursor to nudge you along. Check items you're carrying with the About Item function, just in case they have secrets to reveal, or use them by highlighting them with a click, and then clicking on the main game window. True to Mr. Y's passions, this escape game requires some good old fashioned deductive reasoning, making paying attention to your surroundings a necessity. There are some seriously cunning puzzles hidden throughout this game, with an emphasis on using your brain over your inventory, though the latter will present its own challenge in several places. If the swanky soundtrack doesn't make you feel like a detective, the challenges you'll need to overcome in this top-notch escape game will!

WALKTHROUGH.

Entering the office.

We are in the entrance area of an office. We want to get inside! There is a Mr. Hippo in front of us. There is a code written on the glass, LO2AT3. Lastly, there is a slot for a key card and room for a four number code.
Mr. Hippo.

Mr. Hippo has a key card in his mouth, but what is the code?

Try changing the numbers...

They stop at the numbers 745. Take the card and make a note of the code.

The four digit code.

Take a look at the card. There is a 7 digit number written on it. What else have we seen with seven digits?

They correspond to the 7 digit code on the glass.

Rearrange the code according the the numbers written on the key card.

TOTAL32. Hmmmm. How will that help us with the four number code?

We need to enter a code that adds up to 32. Then use the card to unlock the door.

Looking around the office.

Turn left. Click on the coffee table. Take the STRAW from the glass. Click on the leftmost chair and grab the COIN. Click on top of the cabinet and check out the pretty flowers. To the right is a weird contraption that contains a balloon. The leftmost cabinet wants a three digit code and has the letters SEW above it. The other two cabinets want keys. You can click on the plant but there isn't anything there.

Turn right. Click on the door. It's locked, not surprisingly. There is a gray box next to it that we can't open. There are more pretty flowers on the small table. Click on the iPad to see a Mr. Hippo who wants a three digit code. There is a picture behind the desk. Click on it to see the numbers hidden under the corners.

Turn right. There is a panel screwed on the wall. There is also a barrel with a chain on top. More flowers on top of the shelves. We also have a wooden contraption that wants four Mr. Birdys. The box in the bottom right wants a four digit code. The box on the top right has a 3x3 panel of buttons that you can change to yellow red or green.

Turn right. Click the low shelves on the left. Look at the left picture of Detective Conan. Turn it around. There is a diamond key screwed in the back of the picture. The box on the bottom shelf is padlocked shut. Back up and note the large N above the door.

Wobbly picture.

This wobbly picture is easy by Tesshi-e standards. Remember the numbers behind the corners of the picture?

Click the corners in the order indicated.

TR BL TL BR BR TL.

Take the CANDLE.

Safe under the picture.

Where have we seen a five letter word?

Mr. Y's favorite show?

CONAN.

Click the space under the code once you have it right. Take the METAL CAPSULE. Open it in your inventory and open it to take the PIN.

SEW cabinet.

Could the letters refer to directions? Where have we seen reference to directions?

The N over the door is north. Then we can figure out the directions of the other walls. What do we have in different amounts on each wall?

Flowers.

654. Take the SCREWDRIVER.

iPad and the 3x3 box.

Go to the iPad. Mr. Hippo wants a 3 digit code.

Enter the 3 digit code from the Mr. Hippo in the entrance.

745.

Click the screen to get to get to a series of 6 3x3 grids. The last one has a question mark on it. We need to solve the series to get the code for the 3x3 box.

Look at the way the colors move around the grid as you follow the arrow.

_ R G
_ _ Y
_ _ _

Use the code on the 3x3 box on the top right of the shelves. Get the MATCHES and the SPADE KEY.

Balloon contraption.

Light the CANDLE with the MATCHES. Click for a close up of the contraption, and burn the string with the light candle. The balloon will fly up to the ceiling.

Combine the STRAW and the PIN to make a blow dart. Use it on the balloon on the ceiling. Take the ROUND KEY from where it fell by the plant.

Locked cabinets.

Use the SPADE KEY on the middle cabinet. Take MR. BIRDY.

What about the key in the picture?

Use the COIN to unscrew the glass to take the DIAMOND KEY. Use it on the right locked cabinet and take another MR. BIRDY.

Use the ROUND KEY on the PADLOCK which goes in your inventory. Take MR. BIRDY.

Key card and box with four digit code.

Use the SCREWDRIVER on the wooden panel. Take MR. BIRDY and note the round hole. Check under the hat of the MR. BIRDY with the M on his hat. Take the SCRATCH CARD. Use the COIN to reveal a series of numbers.

The numbers are a code for the box with a four digit code.

Think about the series separately by digits.

Add 1 to the first digit and multiply the second digit (or second 2 digits in later numbers in the sequence) by 3.

6243.

Use the code on the four digit box and take the CRANK HANDLE.

Raising the barrel.

Use the CRANK HANDLE on the hole behind the wooden panel. Turn it to lower the chain towards the barrel. Attach it to the chains on the barrel with the PADLOCK. Turn the handle to raise the barrel and take the HEART KEY.

Mr. Birdy code.

We know the Mr. Birdy figurines go in the wooden slots. But what order should they go? Notice that each figurine has a different letter on its hat.

Remember those series of Tesshi-e games called Mild Escape?

Put the Mr. Birdys in the order that the letters appear in Mild Escape.

MDSP

Take the USB STICK.

Let's get out of here!

Use the USB STICK on the iPad and click on the watch that appears on the screen. You've unlocked the grey box! You can use the HEART KEY in the keyhole that appears and go home. Or... what about that Happy Coin?

Happy Coin.

Watch the screen of the iPad until the screensaver comes on. Notice anything weird about the writing of Mild Escape?

The larger letters upside down give a 4 letter code.

3371.

Use this code on the box with 4 digits. Get the HAPPY COIN!!

Now use the HEART KEY to escape happily.

I'm also stuck on the 4-digit code.

The 7-digit code on the card might be an ordering of the 7-character word on the glass? But "AOT32LT" doesn't make any sense, either. Maybe something with the 3-digit hippo code instead?

Reply

Also stuck on the 4 digit code, haha. I thought

maybe you remove the 3 digits from the hippo and use the four digits left over on the card, but I tried every combination I could think of a logical explanation for...

Reply

Thought maybe AOT32LT had something to do with "TOTAL" of numbers because the letters are there....but no dice so far

Reply
brian.j.sanders January 30, 2015 10:27 AM

OK. Got the 4-digit. I was on the right track with

reordering the window characters to match the number on the card. I just didn't apply the order correctly. I should have rearranged them to "TOTAL32"

Reply

That entry code had me stumped for a little while but then...

I just needed to use the numbers on the card in combination with the window sticker to work out what was required.

The answer to that is TOTAL32 (take each number and count in from the left) which means the code is any combination of digits that equals 32!

Reply

Stuck on the order of the Mr. Birdys. Anyone have a hint?

Reply

I'm stuck again! I'm sure there's a fourth Mr Birdy but I can't find him anywhere...

I have

three Mr Birdys, entry key card, matches, candle (lit, used to release the balloon but no idea what to do with the balloon from there), scratch card (used to solve box code), coin, screwdriver, and some kind of metal rod. I released a chain from the ceiling but can't figure out how to attach it to the barrel.

Any nudges? :)

Reply

@ Chapel - wait for a screensaver on that computer.

Reply

Luthy, how did you do that whith a chain?

Reply

@krt1994 -

use the scratch card to solve the code in the brown box with the picture of Mr. Birdy on it. There's a handle in there that you can use on the panel on the wall next to the barrel that you had to unscrew. It releases the chain from the ceiling.

I'm guessing what I'm looking for is in

the safe behind the wobbly picture, but I can't figure out how to open it. Although I feel like it should be obvious.

@krt1994 : thanks, I never have enough patience on any screen.

@King2001, thanks

@luthy : I'm sorry I was mistaken...

The picture safe has to do with Mr. Y's favorite show.

When seeing the card slide through the card reader, the digits shown on the card in the animation are in a different sequence than when looking at just the card in inventory. GLITCH! Disregard the sequence shown in the ANIMATION after swiping the Key Card.

How did you derive the 4 digit mr. birdy code?

Reply
Blondiej1 January 30, 2015 7:51 PM replied to SHA

For the Scratch Code

Add one to the first digit then multiply the second digit by 3. IE. 11 --> 1+1=2, 1x3=3 --> 23

Does that make sense?

Reply

4 digit code

the writing on the window unscrambled to read TOTAL32

use any combination of numbers that add up to 32

don't make it complicated. any combination will work

Still don't get that 4-number code to enter the office.

When I arrange the letters on the glass according to the numbers on the card, I get AOT32LT, not TOTAL32. I honestly don't know what I'm not getting, and I'm feeling very frustrated and massively stupid.

Oh, now I get it. The entry code isn't the first puzzle of this type of create confusion, because there are two different ways to interpret the clue, and only one of them is right.

In this case, the clue "6235174" means "first take the 6th character, then the 2nd, then the 3rd..." But, one could also read it as "the first character comes 6th" and so on, and then one would get the totally meaningless "AOT32LT."

The difficulty on this puzzle was punched up a bit, but nothing was too far-fetched or defied logic. The only thing that was a bit of a stretch was

waiting for the screen saver to come on to get the Happy Coin code

and

figuring out that you could use any combination of numbers to total 32 to get into the room

. Aside from those things this was a nice, slightly more difficult offering from Tesshi-e.
