Escape from the Strange Library

DoraHottategoya's Escape from the Strange Library is a sort of unintentionally creepy escape game as you navigate a series of silent, disorienting hallways and rooms that all look mostly alike, half expecting to encounter one of Mr King's Library Policemen or maybe even The Quiet Librarian whenever you turn around. Instead, however, all you'll find are puzzles (three to be exact) and some potentially mystifying navigation as you click your way around... though thoughtfully there is a map to be found that can help with the basics. You'll need three keys to find your way out, and though it feels like more could have been done with the setting and environment to integrate it into the puzzles in a more interesting or creative fashion, Escape from the Strange Library is still a nice light snack for escapery aficionados to start your day off right.

Not bad, short and simple enough for even me to get out without help. Though...

I do wish the map had stayed active past the key it goes with. Would have made navigating a touch easier.

Easy enough for me to go through without a walkthrough for once, though it was very short and I feel like they could have done more with the concept since it wasn't very book-related and it was boring wandering through the same scene over and over.

can't wait for the walkthrough :)

This library has apparently never heard of the Dewey Decimal System. :b

I agree, merchantfan -- it wasn't much of a challenge (although, this means that I finally escaped before a walkthrough was posted!) save for the navigation, which I found somewhat tedious.

It's the only thing stopping me from posting what would be my 1st walkthrough - I'd get gamers all mixed up D:

Satisfying quick-play though.

Paul, I've done my best to write you a walkthrough myself since nobody else was interested in this one.

Escape from the Strange Library Walkthrough

Because of the way this game's navigation works, it is VERY DIFFICULT to give regular directions. Thus, I'm giving a straight-forward walkthrough that leads off from the starting screen. This is as clear as I can make it. The Left and Right directions refer to the arrows that appear on the edges of the screen, while Forward will refer to an arrow that appears on the floor ahead of you when you mouse over it.

1. Go Left, Forward, Right, Forward, Forward, Left.

2. Click on the box twice. Click two shapes to swap their places and rearrange the picture until it looks like this. Receive second key. Back up until you're facing the box on the table.

3. Go Right, Right, Forward, Right.

4. Click the bare shelf for a close up and take the map. Back up until you're facing the bare shelf.

5. Go Left, Forward, Right.

6. Take note of the spaces on the bookshelf. (Middle, Left, Right, Middle, Right.)

7. Go Forward, Right, Forward, Right, Right.

8. Click on the shelf with the three white boxes. Click them according to the bookshelf placement in step 6. (Middle, Left, Right, Middle, Right.) Receive first key. Back up until you're facing the row of bookshelves with the lock you just opened.

9. Go Right, Right, Forward, Right.

10. Click on the spine of the middle book (wider than the others, you can see faint writing) on the second shelf from the bottom on the right book case. This is the "red" book noted on the map. Take note of the number. (5482)

11. Go Forward, Right, Forward, Forward, Right, Forward, Forward, Right, Right.

12. Click on the shelf with the row of white boxes. Enter the combination found on the book in step 10. (5482) Receive third key. Back up until you're facing the row of bookshelves with the lock you just opened.

13. Go Right, Right, Right, Forward, Forward, Right, Forward, Forward, Right, Forward, Left.

14. Click on the door. Use each key on its numbered lock. You're out!
