Escape from the Similar Rooms 4

elleThere are times when there is only time for a quick escape and those are the times when Hottategoya is in best form. Make your way up the stairs, stopping briefly to admire each room, soaking in the atmosphere and gathering clues. Before you know it, you'll be out since, despite the title, there are only three doors blocking your Escape from the Similar Rooms 4. The brevity is disappointing but this threefold of puzzles is still enjoyable while it lasts. The clue presentation is cleverly handled, using the environment well (although one clunks us over the head with the answer) and Hottategoya deserves kudos for embracing the miniescape with finesse. There's only smidgen of challenge yet it's packed with a pleasing array of style, making this the perfect respite for beginners or anyone hankering for an escape who has only a moment to spare.

Walkthrough: Escape from the Similar Rooms 4

Door #1

  1. You begin at the base of a stairwell. Turn around to explore the room and look for clues:

    • On one wall you see a "3" and, on another is a word: "ON".

  2. Go the stairs to the next room. Again, turn around and note the features of this room...

    • This time there is a "1" and a "FO".

  3. Continue up the stairs and continue looking at the walls for information:

  4. On each of the other floors you gather these details:

    • "5" and "IG"

    • "2" and "UR"

    • "6" and "HT

    • "4" and "EE"

  5. Finally, you reach a locked door. Examine the panel next to it:

    • Enter the correct 3-digit number and click "OK" to unlock the door.

    • SOLUTION:

Each of the numerals in the 6 different-but-similar rooms represents the order in which you should arrange the letters you saw. This gives you three words which spell out your code: FOURONEEIGHT or...
      4 1 8

  6. Step through the door and go up the stairs to the next similar room.

Door #2

  1. The first room for this door is labeled "A". Look around the room and note any features that may be different...

    • The bookshelf is missing a book. Remember where that empty space is.

  2. Now, go up the stairs and stop in each room to make a note of what you see. Also notice that the room before the second door is labeled "B".

  3. When you reach door #2, look around this room, too...

    • There is a note on the stool. Pick it up and read it:

      • "NO BOOK. A to B"

  4. Now examine the lock panel on the wall next to the door:

    • Press the buttons in the proper sequence.

    • SOLUTION:

The note on the stool tells all. Match each shelf with a missing book to a button on the panel, going in order from floor A to floor B...
      3 -
      - 1
      4 -
      - -
      2 -

    • You'll hear an unlocking sound when the sequence is correct.

  5. Back up, open the door, and go through, up the stairs to the next room.

Door #3

  1. On this next series of rooms before the third door, once again you need to explore each room for what stands out as a clue...

  2. Continue up the stairs in this way, making a note of the differences on each floor.

  3. When you reach the final room, there's one more clue needed to help you put all the pieces together:

    • Pick up the piece of paper from the chair and read it:

    • 1030
      2045
      400
      2230
      245
      2230

  4. Now go to the door and zoom in on the panel next to it:

    • Press each of the four buttons in the correct order to unlock the door.

    • SOLUTION:

The note on the chair refers to times on a 24 hour clock. The times refer to the shape of the clock. Going in the order shown on the note, then, press the buttons in this sequence:
      HEXAGON
      CIRCLE
      OCTAGON
      HEXAGON
      SQUARE
      HEXAGON

  5. After entering the correct code to unlock the door, step back, open it, and escape!

Congratulations!

Question:

Why is there space for two items in the inventory when there's only one item? Did I miss something?

Reply

Answer:

Yes, you did: on the stool by the second lock, there's another little booklet with some instructions on how to solve the second puzzle. I also didn't need it initially, and missed it, but then when I was walking back through to get the clock shapes I overshot by one room, and while turning around I noticed it.
