Escape from the Cake Shop

elleChoko-Chai's three cats have unwittingly found themselves in a variety of predicaments—bound for the open sea on a Passenger Ship, virtually catnapped by Forty Thieves, and facing lupine menace as Little Red Riding Hoods—yet these kitties do more than yowl discordantly and leave fur clusters on your clothes. They are rather resourceful (with a smidgen of assistance from you) and happen to love tasty treats, so of course they're purrfect heroes when the baker's apprentice is locked inside the cake shop and can't find the door key. Join the three cats to the rescue! Gather useful items, solve puzzles, and decipher codes in order to Escape from the Cake Shop!

Escape from the Cake ShopThe complete premise unfolds after you choose English or Japanese to begin the game. If you wish, you can skip the intro story, but then you'd miss out on the feline antics as well as half the fun of playing. Once inside the cake shop, follow the arrows at the edges of the scene to turn right or left or, where pertinent, back-up. Pick-up items with a click and examine them with the "About Item" button. Navigation is rather clunky and this tends to add to the frustration when you're looking for a clue that seems just out of reach. The changing cursor hardly helps in this case because there are a couple spots that are arbitrarily unreachable unless you approach them from a certain angle.

Thankfully, after a wee challenge in finding all necessary clue-solving components, working out the puzzles is a straight-forward endeavor. The puzzles themselves are somewhat unimaginative, yet there's such imaginative and amusing ways to uncover the clues. To liven things up, there's even a few instances when, by clicking on the cat in bottom left corner, the goofy gang bursts onto the scene to help out. So a bit of awkwardness in navigation and tasks completion is only a minor damper; it's hard to not get a kick out of the whimsical blend of photo-quality and cartoon graphics, multiple escaping layers and a zingy mission—especially when your cohorts are so haplessly comical. There's even two endings to find, guaranteeing even more entertainment courtesy of a trio of lovably charismatic cats.

There is one thing I don't get with the scissor

The scissor was not used once, I'm guessing that's why I only got the normal end, but

The key for the door final overwrote the scissor

As for the mop

For help with the notepad, you need to reach the high shelf between the lockers and the plant. Or get someone to reach it for you.

Okay, I think I'm near the end, and I'm stuck.

I have a bag of flour and scissors. I can't use the sciccors to open the flour, and I still haven't solved the multi-coloured button device (it's not in the order of the letter balls.)

Seems I got stuck much earlier than everyone else posting. I still need door key, middle cabinet key, 5 digit code, colored cloud code and

something for the sticky table and to reach the red ball on floor.

I have used: blue key, oven mitt, step stool (once), silver key, colored letter code, tilty picture code.

Available to use: scissors, step stool, pencil, "How much?" note, e/o/r balls.

Reply

shjack, i'm not begging i'm asking :) and 2ndly if more people made them more often I wouldn't have to ask. :)

Reply

As long as Paul asks politely, there's no harm in doing so, especially if someone in the community decides they would like making one. :) Sometimes they don't, which is too bad, but there's no need to pick on anyone for asking!

Reply
shjack180 May 4, 2014 12:43 PM

@Paul,

Dude, walkthroughs are difficult to make and quite time consuming. I've only successfully made one. I agree that they are great to have, and I would like to see one attached to every escape game on this site (more of a dream than a reality though). However, I also understand the time and attention needed to make them and that not everyone has the time time, passion, and dedication needed to make one for every game on this site.

As to this particular game, I had to rely on the power of posting. This can be frustrating at times but, without a walkthrough, its the best that we have to count on. The community on this site is usually pretty good at answering you if you need help with a particular part of the game. I highly recommend that route as you wait for a walktrhough, if it comes. And you might find yourself in the position to help others as well.

Reply

as I mentioned in the last game, I do not even know what "power of posting is" sometines they say "what do you do with this?" then immaeadiately go "oh sorry. power of posting" that doesn't solve it lol. anyway, although I agree with you that it can be time consuming on walkthroughs, it helps me if there is one. If I just play the game as is, i'll be stuck not long after I start because either a) I won't find anything to collect or b) i'll find a few things but won't know what to do. then I end up posting forever on what i'm supposed to do. so as you can see it's much easier. :)

I made it almost to the end without a walkthrough, but it took a while. One of the hardest ones I can remember with these action kitties. I guess I just never

Narrative Walkthrough
This is for those <ahem>Paul</ahem> who like step-by-step, hand-holding walkthroughs.

  • Kitchen

    • You start off looking at the oven/fridge view.

      • Oven

You can open the door, but it's too hot to do anything else - you'll need to come back after acquiring a hot mitt or something.

      • Fridge

The top part is locked; you'll need a key. The bottom part doesn't contain anything of interest. If you look between the fridge and the oven, there's a red marble, but you can't reach it - you'll need something with a long handle.

      • Rack

The middle and bottom shelves have some yummy-looking cakes, but nothing useful. You can't reach the top shelf - you'll need something to stand on.

    • Turn left to the window view.

The only thing you can do here is look out the window, but obviously no human is gonna fit through those bars, so you'll need to find another way out.

    • Turn left to the door view.

      • The door needs a key.

      • There's a sticky spot on the table, but there's nothing you can do about it yet.

      • Look through the bowls to find a key. It doesn't work in either the door or the fridge, so you'll need to find another use for it.

    • Turn left once more to see a doorway. There's nothing else to do here, so go through the doorway into the staff room.

  • Staff room

    • The first thing you see is the couch view.

      • The picture is wobbly; you'll need the code.

      • Check the couch cushions for a note.

It has pictures of a bunch of pastries and the question "How much?". I see some arithmetic in your future.

      • Check the plant for another key. This one's blue.

    • Turn right to see a shelf high on the wall. It's so high even a stepstool would be useless.

Perhaps you could ask your friends for help?

Click the cat on the lower left so that all three cats appear in the scene. Click the first (biggest) cat twice, then the middle cat twice, then the smallest cat, then the biggest cat again. Get the pencil.

    • Turn right to see three lockers.

      • The left locker needs a five-digit code, which you don't know yet.

      • Try your keys on the middle locker.

Alright! The small silver key opens it. Get the stepstool.

While you have the stepstool in view, examine it thoroughly.

What's this on the bottom? Yet another key?

      • The right locker isn't locked or anything, but it refuses to open. Time to ask for help again.

Step back from the lockers (to give your friends room to work), then click the cat on the lower left. Click the smallest cat, click the locker, and stand back.

Get the hot mitt from the locker.

    • Turn right to the low cabinet.

      • Examine the picture.

There's a button on the lower right; press it.

Note the code: pink H, blue S, white V, magenta B.

      • There's a weird device with colorful buttons on top of the cabinet on the left. Nothing you can do with it yet.

      • On the right side is what looks like a pencil holder with 9 round openings; again, nothing you can do with it yet.

      • The left doors have some towels, which you think are suspicious.

      • The middle doors need a key, but neither of your keys will work.

      • The right doors need a four-character code, and you've seen those colors before.

Put in the code from the picture.
        Colorblind help:

        SVBH

        Get the scissors.

  • Kitchen again

    • Use the hot mitt on the top shelf of the oven. Well, if this isn't a wobbly-picture code, I'll eat my hat, except I don't have a hat, so perhaps I'll eat those chocolate cakes instead. Wait, that's not a very good threat, is it? Oh, never mind, just note the code.

      2,6 — 4,7
       |     |
      1,3 — 5,8

    • Try your keys on the top doors of the fridge.

The blue one opens it. Get the blue "o" marble from between the boxes.

    • You still don't have anything with a long handle to get the red marble, but you can use the stepstool to look at the top shelf of the rack.

      Get the yellow 'r' marble.

    • Try your remaining key on the door.

  • Shop

    • Door & window view - there's a lockbox to the left of the door, but you're currently all out of keys.

    • Turn left. There's a strange rectangle in the wallpaper.

Try the scissors; nope. Maybe you could ask your friends for help?

Click the cat on the lower left. Click the middle cat, then click the rectangle.

Note the code she uncovered for you.

      Cookies = 1268 yen

    • Turn left again to see the display cases.

      • The right side has some baskets of cookies. Above them is a sign asking for a price. Well, ain't that convenient?

Put in the code you just found under the wallpaper.

Get the key. Sheesh, what is it with the multitude of keys?

      • Don't forget to look through the cookies.

Yup, there's a red "s" marble behind the lower right basket, and a green "t" marble behind the upper left basket.

      • The left side has some rather familiar-looking pastries. Time to do some basic math.

Remember the note you found in the couch cushions?

        Big white cakes
         2 × 3580 =  7160
        Chocolate cakes with hearts
         3 × 5260 = 15780
        Chocolate cake slices
         2 ×  380 =   760
        Vanilla rolled cakes
         2 ×  180 =   360
        Bottles of cream
         5 ×  120 =   600
        Pistachio rectangles
         2 ×  280 =   560
                    -----
                    25220

There are also some items in the case that you need, but can't get from this side.

    • Turn left to see a rather obsolete "Coming Soon" poster.

Star Trek? Well, it might be a code.

    • Turn back to the display cases, then go towards the door and turn left.

Use the key from the cookie code to open the display case doors.

Get the yellow "h" marble from the top right (the chocolate domes), and the green "k" marble from the bottom left (the pistachio rectangles).

    • Turn left again (you might have to go backwards once before you can turn) to see the cash register. Get the notepad.

Use the pencil on the notepad to see a code.

      shortcake

  • Staff room again

    • Use the wobbly-picture code from the oven to get the blue "e" marble.

    • Go to the left locker and use the five-digit code from the pastry case to open it.

Get the mop. Look in the bucket for the white "c" marble.

  • Kitchen, once more with feeling

Use the mop to get the red "a" marble from between the oven & fridge.

  • And back to the staff room

    • Go to the round device with the colorful buttons.

The code to this is the Star Trek poster -- that's what that cloud is trying to allude to. (It's supposed to be a UFO, like on the poster.)

Press the colors corresponding to the marbles that spell "Star Trek", so red-green-red-yellow-green-yellow-blue-green.
      Colorblind help:

Starting from the cloud and going clockwise, the buttons are yellow, blue, red, green, and white.

Use the scissors to get the key.

    • Go to the long wooden thingy with the holes.

This time, the code is the word on the notepad.

Put your marbles into the rack to spell "shortcake". Get the key. (How many keys are in this game, anyway? I've officially lost count at this point.)

    • Go to the middle cabinet doors and try your keys.

The silver key from the "shortcake" code opens it. Get a bag of flour.

  • Kitchen, one last time

Remember that sticky spot on the table? When baking, how do you get rid of stickyness?

    Try the flour.

OK, that worked, sorta; but what was the point? Well, try asking your friends for help.

You'll need to give them more room to work, so turn towards the window, then click the cat on the lower left. Click the big cat, then click the table.

Turn back to the door to view the code.

  • Almost... there...

Go into the shop again and look at the lockbox next to the door.

Use the remaining gold key to open the box and put in the code from the table.

  • Endings

    • Normal end

      Just go out the door.

    • Happy end

Before going out the door, remember those suspicious-looking towels? Go back to the staff room and open the right-hand doors of the low cabinet. Move the stack of pink towels and get the keyring. Now go out the front door.

The scissors

are used to get the gold key from the round device with the colorful buttons. (You probably already had the scissors selected when you went to pick up the key, and then the key replaces the scissors in the inventory, so it's easy to miss that you actually needed the scissors there.)

For the wobbly picture,

don't look at the position of a number on a cake - just look at which cake the number is on. If the number is on the top left cake, then click the top left corner, even if the number is in the bottom right corner of the top left cake. Does that make sense?

If not, here's the code translated to "TL" style notation:
BL, TL, BL, TR, BR, TL, TR, BR
