Emit

KimberlyAlien technology. Can you ever trust it? After a flying saucer malfunction, you've crash landed on an unfamiliar planet. But instead of a quick "I come in peace" announcement, you pull out your gun and start shooting in EMIT, a frantic retro shooter by Stix and Coolboyman. Use [A] and [D] to move, and [W] to jump, dodging as many projectiles as possible, and aim and shoot with your mouse. The goal is to pass each stage while trying not to die... but if you are anything like me you'll die a lot. Thankfully you get as many lives as you need, though your score suffers for each death. There are also three checkpoints on each stage, so you don't have to completely start over when you bite it.

EmitWhile you start with an all around basic gun, you soon earn money to purchase something better with different abilities such as splash damage, or high rate of fire. You earn two stat points each time you level up, letting you upgrade your health, time it takes to reload your gun, or jumping power. Collect the powerups that appear on occasion when you make a kill, as they can really boost your chances of fighting through the next wave. Sometimes the controls are not as smooth as they could be, causing the occasional jerky jump, and a few enemies shoot bullets that blend in a little too well with the background. The pixel art and music are really great and do an excellent job of setting the mood of the game. EMIT gives a lot of variety between stages, with tons of different enemies to blast and environments to enjoy. So if you're a less-talk-more-pew-pew type of gamer, this is one's for you.

It was..okay. For some reason the missile sucked worse than anything else in the bottom row, even the impossible-to-aim rockets. The reload speed feels REALLY frustratingly slow, even at the highest level, and apparently varies from weapon to weapon. And those laser enemies in the last level are cheap as can be--impossible to dodge or hit with most weapons.

Having the title screen show up and THEN zoom up to the menu buttons whenever I hit "main menu" was kind of annoying, especially since there's no way to skip it.

It would be really nice if there were a way to see descriptions of achievements, so I could actually know what I did to achieve them.

Muting both sound and music does not prevent the extremely loud and shrill achievement and level-ending sound effects.

Just a side thing...under the 'Options' there's an achievement panel that gives more detail on the achievements you've gotten. OTOH, pretty poor design to put it there.
And I agree on the reload speeds..the ultimate spread gun reloads *slower* than the next one down. I also agree that the 'lob' missles are completely and utterly useless. I ended up re-equipping the next one down until I could grind enough to upgrade again.

Another poor level design--as far as I can tell, the final level's minibosses are *not* possible to do with the penultimate weapon, only the final one.

Yeah, Tetris boss is impossible with missiles, but laughably easy with the sniper since it kills every -omino in two shots and has crazy good accuracy.

I agree with Xindaris. the laser enemies were extremely cheap, and this game didn't seem to know which weapons were good. Most of the time buying a new weapon would send me fleeing back to earlier weapons. The qualities on how a weapon functions matter more than the raw stats in games like this, so upgrading to something with better stats but a worse useability is a huge step back.

Not crashing Flash as you load might be a good idea?

Besides what most have said, I became astounded when I finished the game using the good'old Golden Gun. Thinking it was the worst, I saved it for last... until the redundance of the weaponry choices kicked in. It's funny how the cheapest weapon in the game can be pretty good, with the ammo speed upgrades... which reminds me, where is the weapon in which I started the game?

This being said, what's up with the storyline? At first I thought I was a crashed pilot, but then I am the one attacking. The levels and bosses could be way more developed or challenging.

Ranting done, those were some decent 30 minutes of shooting.

Did something change? I'm not able to play any games on JIG, even though I played Two Pipes on Friday. My system hasn't changed, I have no adblockers or anything, and I'm able to play on other sites.

Tried with Chrome and Firefox.

Kimberly,

Sure enough, that did it. I usually don't accept cookies or if I have to, I clear them immediately afterward. I also don't know why the games wouldn't have worked across two browsers.

For the record, it was other games, too. I went back to some older ones that I had successfully played, and they weren't loading. Everything seems to be good now, though.
