EBI!

EBI! may not be the most informative name Yonashi has ever chosen, but when the accompanying escape game is this cute and happily silly, who cares? You find yourself (of course) locked in a room, with the usual puzzles, cryptic clues, items to gather... and... a giant prawn on the wall? Hmmm. The bars that pop up when your cursor passes over certain sides of the screen can be used to navigate around the room, and if your cursor changes when it passes over something, that means you can interact with it. While Yonashi reuses a lot of familiar escape game puzzle concepts, like picture corners, the clever and quirky presentation more than makes up for it... though you might not expect all object uses to be immediately logical. But even if it isn't a serious challenge, EBI! has such a goofy theme and a few funny surprises throughout, making it a perfectly sized, welcome respite from the drudgery of the real world, which is decidedly (and unfairly) lacking in buff crustaceans.

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

Walkthrough:

Start by taking the glass from the ground in the corner, next to the window. Go to the bottom drawer, next to the lobster pictures.

Place the glass inside and click on the lobster on the other side to catch it.

Place the lobster on the fishing hook and grab the fish.

The fish box can be opened with the key hanging from the door.

The picture on the paper, indicates different edges of the lobster paintings. Notice that there are different number of lobsters on each edge.

For the lobster without claws, we have 1 on the top left corner, 2 on the top right and 3 on the bottom left.

Thus the pattern for the painting will be:

Top left, top right, bottom left. Repeat two times and the painting will open.

For the clawed lobster, following the same logic, the pattern will be:

Bottom left, top left, bottom right (2 times).

Once you have the binoculars, go to the window and use them to take a closer look at the yellow tank. Take a screenshot if you don’t think you’ll remember the exact order of the lobsters there.
Go to the 3 lobster heads hanging from the wall. The head on the left has three buttons, each with a different color. We need to insert the pattern for both A and B.

For A, the colors are sequenced from right to left. For B, the sequence goes from left to right.

Thus the pattern for unlocking the left head will be:

Grey, pink, blue, grey, blue, gray, pink, blue.

For the lobster head on the right,

just look at which way the lobsters are turned and following the same sequence, use the corresponding buttons.

Pattern:

Left, left, left, right, right, left, right, left.

To open the security lock for the window, we’ll have to gather all the numbers from around the room and put them together. The numbers are located in the following places:

the corner, next to the window; the back of each lobster painting; inside the fish box we pulled out of the water earlier.

Once put together they should look like this:

6 3 8
4 9 1
2 5 7

Go to the lobster head, with the colored buttons and click on the plate inside it. What you see here is the pattern for the window lock, or

6-3-8-1-9-4-2-5-7.

Use the dumbbell on the button behind the lobster painting and grab the wanted lobster from the giant burger.
Inside the top of the giant bottle, you’ll find a stamper.

Put the piece of paper under it, to identify the color of each sign.

Go to the round locker, next to the window and simply click on the respective buttons:

pink square, white star, pink circle, white circle, pink triangle, pink star.

Check the “wanted” sign on the floor and you’ll see “GRY” written on its other side.

Each letter represents a lobster color – Green, Red, Yellow. Simply put the lobsters in this order and grab the key for the front door.

oooh looks cute :) *goes to try*

um.. by the way.

Ebi is japanese for 'prawn', so I guess those aren't lobsters :)

Reply

What's uninformative about the name? "Ebi" is Japanese for "prawn" or "shrimp."

Reply

Well, that was a little bit bizarre.

Some hints for if you get stuck.

You don't have to break the key from the chain in order to use it.

The first prawn/shrimp you find is NOT for in the wall space. What do you do with prawns if you aren't eating them, or arresting them for crimes?

Trying to figure out which of the two colours goes where? If only there was something red in the room that could circle what we need...

Don't be fooled by the fried thing, it's a wolf in sheep's clothing. Get it? I hope you get it when you see what I mean.

Try not to over-think the puzzles.

The arrows for A and B mean to read those two sections from furthest to closest to the tower thing.

That's kind of a cute

sorry, but what do i do with the shape clue?

Reply

When is a clue not a clue?
I lost interest when

the paper diagram showing the clue for the shaky picture turned out to be unusable. A walkthrough shows that you have to turn the diagram upside down.

It would have been OK except that

the diagram has words on the bottom which are right side up.

Does

unintuitive mean misleading? If a clue said to put all the green eggs into a basket and the solution worked only when you put red eggs into the basket would that be unintuitive or would the puzzle just be a waste of time?

@Scaper

If you look at the shape in the middle and treat the intersection as the corners, the sheet with the moving pictures works right side up.

That is, the corner with the one large claw is the first one clicked based on the brown outline.

I agree... not intuitive.

Have you opened up that little cupboard in the top of the giant white bottle? (...there's an odd sentence) It has an item in it that will help you with the shape clue! If by shape clue you mean the piece of paper with the stars, triangles, circles, etc on it.

I got stuck on two puzzles because I wasn't interpreting the clues right (they felt a little unintuitive).

The lobster/shrimp hint threw me, until I realised that the lines separating the piece of paper into four actually represented the CORNER of the shrimp/lobster pictures. So what is the top left square on the paper is actually denoting the bottom right corner of the picture. The number of shrimps/lobsters indicates the order, from 1 to 3.

The other one was the grid clue. It's easy enough to join the various hints up (especially if you draw it out), but as it happens, there are many ways of interpreting what you're supposed to do with it! In this case, it's telling you specifically the numbers to press... but you have to snake around the grid. So start top left, but the second row is read from right to left. I was very confused for a while, I tried several things before I got to that!

Otherwise, it was very silly and funny!

Okay, I'm completely stuck. I have

The fish box, opened and checked to find a 4,2 for the tic-tac-toe thing
binoculars

in my inventory right now. I've solved

Fishing up the box
Three-color code
The picture frames

And written in my notes I have

A 4, 5, and 2 in specific parts of a grid
The letters GRY, ISE, and HOMARD
The pattern on the stamp
And I need a left-right code from somewhere

What am I missing here?

Leopardmask:

Start by finding a place to use those binoculars! There's a window with something off in the distance, it will give you a clue for something. Also, you're missing the last couple of grid clue. If you solved the two pictures, you can have a look behind them...! Hopefully the rest should flow from there.
