Dudefish Episode 1

Starchild There was once a crab who sang about the charms of life under the sea. Now that you've been turned into a fish, you tend to politely disagree, and by 'politely' you mean you'd like to smack him upside the head. Being a goldfish sucks! On top of which, your memory is almost non-existent, so you have no clue as to who did this to you or what your name is. You will henceforth be known as Dudefish as you embark on Episode 1 of Perfectly Paranormal's aquatic point-and-click adventure.

Dudefish Episode 1 Exploring his new underwater home, Dudefish discovers that he (and some other unsuspecting humans) fell victim to crazy scientist Lloyd's Gunzor, a contraption made especially for turning folks into fish. Now it's up to him to find a way to reach the land once more and face Lloyd in hope of getting his legs back – but, this being an adventure game, he'll have some exploring to do first. When you hover over an item and the cursor turns red, that means you can interact with it or put it in your inventory. You can drag some items into two empty slots in the inventory to combine them, and use them by dragging them to the appropriate object/sea creature or yourself. Click on characters to talk to them, and you can press the [spacebar] to skip dialogues.

If you're into old-timey point-and-clicks, you're almost sure to find Dudefish very lovable. It has that almost nostalgic feel, from the goofy plot, to silly item uses to rambling but hilarious dialogues. Even though this is only the first episode, ending in a cliffhanger, you can see how much effort and enthusiasm went into creating Dudefish. It's hard not to fall for a game featuring a couple of advice-giving eels who work as neon lights in the toilet of a quasi-noir bar called The Sea Cucumbar. The hand-drawn backgrounds help set the appropriate marine mood, and the voice acting is inspired and quite funny, even if the recording quality isn't exactly top-notch. You might not always agree with the game's logic, which could result in getting stuck here and there, but the overall impression is of a charming, cheerful little game which will have you shouting CARROOOOOTS! like one of its more eccentric characters.

Dudefish Episode 1 Walkthrough

Shipwreck

  1. Click on the blue and yellow fish (Fred) that swims in and exhaust all dialog options.

  2. Pick up the fork, and both the white and green seaweeds.

  3. Exit right to outskirts, right again to town, then up to Omar's shack.

Omar's Electroshack

  1. Talk to Omar, and eventually agree to do as he asks.

  2. Below the door is a counter. There is a book with a piece of paper sticking out of it. Pick it up, it's called the Terms and Agreements.

  3. To the left of the door is a lamp. Take it, exit back to town, then enter The Sea Cucumbar.

The Sea Cucumbar

  1. Talk to the bartender. Ask him all about Squidsteen. You'll need the information for later.

  2. In talking to the bartender, note also that Larry is terrified of Squidsteen.

  3. Order a glass of saltwater. End your conversation with the bartender, then drink the saltwater to get an empty glass.

  4. Swim to the right and start a conversation with the shrimp in the hat, Earl.

  5. Talk to Earl until you learn he wants a cigarette in exchange for the watch.

  6. In your inventory, combine the white and green seaweeds you picked up at the shipwreck.

  7. Offer the rolled seaweed to Earl. He'll see through your ruse because there is no filter on the cigarette.

  8. Swim to the left and enter the toilet.

  9. Use the empty glass on the slime to get a glass full of slime.

  10. Talk to the eels if you want. They will give you hints if you get stuck.

  11. There is a poster in the stall. Pick up the paper sticking out from the edge to get another piece of the Terms and Agreements. Open your inventory and combine the piece you found in Omar's shop and this one.

  12. Try to talk to the fish. He won't really talk, but notice he's holding liquid courage.

  13. Use the Terms and Conditions on the fish. He'll fall asleep, then you get the liquid courage.

  14. Exit the toilet, then exit the bar back to town.

  15. Before swimming left back to the outskirts, read the sign and notice that the birds like orange fish.

  16. Once at the outskirts, exit down below the statue to enter the cemetary.

Cemetary

  1. Before you do anything, make sure you hear Larry talk in his sleep about a toothbrush.

  2. Note that there is a drink menu buried in the grave behind Larry. You can try to dig it up with the fork, but Larry won't let you.

  3. Talk to Larry to find out that sometimes Squidsteen's shadow appears in the cemetary.

  4. Exit to the outskirts. Use the lamp you got from Omar's shop on the flat stone, then return to the cemetary.

  5. You've cast a shadow of Squidsteen onto the giant gravestone.

  6. Click on Larry. He'll ask you three questions to prove your identity as Squidsteen. If you've been paying very close attention, you should be able to answer them.

  7. First he asks your favorite color. In your conversation with the bartender, you learn that

cyan was the eye color of Squidteen's wife, therefore cyan blue is the correct answer.

  8. Next he asks your favorite animal. In your conversation with the bartenter, he tells you that Squidsteen's statue was made out of

    seashells

, so that is the correct answer here.

  9. Finally he asks why you hold a grudge against him. If you listened to Larry's ramblings, you learn it's something to do with

    a toothbrush.

  10. Whoops! You scared Larry to death. Click on him to pick up the body.

  11. Use the fork you got near the shipwreck to dig up the grave. Pick up the treasure, which turns out to be a drink menu.

  12. Return to The Sea Cucumbar.

The Sea Cucumbar

  1. Look at the drink menu. You don't want to be orange anymore, so note down the recipe for the green drink.

  2. Order a mixed drink from the bartender. For the green drink choose

caviar juice, plain old soda, infant amfibian, and beak tonic.

  3. Combine the green drink with the glass of slime you took from the bathroom to make green paint.

  4. Use the paint on yourself, exit the bar, then exit to the right to the docks.

Docks

  1. When you try to exit at the top of the screen, you'll learn you are afraid of birds. Use the liquid courage, then exit up.

  2. Talk to the seagull to find out he's pretty hungry, and if you bring him an orange fish to eat, he'll get you a cigarette.

  3. Go back to the cucumbar.

The Sea Cucumbar

  1. Look at the drink menu. You need some orange paint, so note down the recipe for the orange drink.

  2. Order a mixed drink from the bartender. For the orange drink choose

fishy lemon fizz, shasimi sundance, rockstar on the beach, and carrotilla.

  3. Combine the orange drink with the glass of slime you took from the bathroom to make orange paint.

  4. Combine the orange paint and Larry to make an orange fish. Head back to the docks

Docks

  1. Give the seagull poor orange Larry. He will bring you a cigarette butt.

  2. Combine the cigarette but with the seaweed you rolled earlier.

  3. Go back to the cucumbar.

The Sea Cucumbar

  1. Give the cigarette to Earl. He'll give you the watch.

  2. Combine the watch with the fork to get the battery out.

  3. Exit to Omar's shop.

Omar's Electroshack

  1. Give the battery to Omar. He'll tell you to put it in the device and go.

  2. Drag the battery to the middle, tank-like machine. You will get in it.

  3. Exit to town. Congratulations!

I downloaded the Mac version, but when I tried to run it it said it was damaged and couldn't be opened.

I to grabbed the Mac version and got the error stating it was damaged. No luck after unzipping it twice, so I snooped into the Flash app and got it to work.

  • Right-click on DudeFish Flash application and select "Show Package Contents"

  • Drill into Contents>Resources>

  • Select 'movie.swf'

  • Copy (cmd-C)

  • Back out to main folder 'Dudefish Mac build'

  • Paste (cmd-V)

  • You should now have the file 'movie.swf' in the same folder as 'assets' folder.

  • Open a browser window.

  • Drag 'movie.swf' into the browser window.

  • Enjoy.

This is just...too much. The puns are horrible, and not even close to being funny, the voice overs are terrible and the Norwegian accent makes my ears bleed, not to mention the horrible mispronunciation of some English words. This game is so amateurish that they didn't even bother making the voice overs all of the same quality or volume, and the subtitles are often very different from the voice overs.

The only good thing to say about this game is that the graphics look great. But please, don't make another sequel, the world hasn't been so cruel as to deserve that.

The dialogue goes way too slow. I like that you can skip it, but rather than skipping everything that character would have said, it should skip to the next set of subtitles.

I liked the puzzles, but I agreed that the dialogue was atrocious. Also it took forever to load on my poor old PC, even the downloaded version was laggy (but definitely worth it considering how long the web version took).

A couple of times, once while playing it online and once while playing offline, the game froze and wouldn't let me do anything. Fortunately the autosave worked for me.

One amusing thing was at the first screen:

If you talk to the skull a few times, you reveal that it is Leonardo DiCaprio from Titanic. At least theoretically!

But that was the extent of the humor of the game. The puzzles and gameplay only barely made it worthwhile.

Well I loved it, and I guess that's showing my age :D I miss the old school adventure games, and this one fits perfectly :)

It seems mostly these are only available for downloads, or it is few and far between when we get them for browser play.

The only suggestion I would give, is to agree with the rest that the dialog and movement is too slow.

Maybe we can make a speed up potion at bartender?

Make the space only go to next dialog option, so we don't miss anything important if we get impatient and skip ahead, as others have said and I agree this would be great thing.

Please DO make the next chapter! I want to play it !!!!

I did enjoy the silly humor :D

    Eso.

Honestly, I thought the dialogue was the saving grace here. It seems to be a matter of taste.. the ui is pretty unpolished (the green light/red light thing was fine, but movement was really awkward and some of the art was much more rushed than the rest) but it was cute and goofy.

I actually really liked this (once I realised that you can't move while the inventory is out. doh >.
