dodgethatanvil-full.jpgJohn BeaverIn February, Jay comprehensively reviewed a finalist in the 2006 Independent Games Festival (IGF). The demo form of Dodge That Anvil walked away with the AdultSwim.com award and has now been further developed into an enjoyable downloadable game for both PC and Mac OS X platforms (no mention thus far of a Linux release).

As well as lots of new levels ("over 40"), the full version features a save function and allows players to unlock new playing modes as they progress. It also allows you to enjoy the game in full-screen mode rather than playing in a browser window.

Graphically, there is little to differentiate between the full application and the browser version (which—as Jay indicated—is a stunning use of Shockwave 3D). The online Shockwave demo levels are still available and you can also run the download in demo mode before you part with your cash.

Go harvest some carrots! Download for Windows and Mac or play the online Shockwave version.

This is an awesome game; lots of fun to play. But oh man, I'm so stuck on level 4-3. It's winter and the anvils are falling like crazy. Help! Does anyone know how the progression of seasons works? I'm confused about that.

SECRET BURROW!

So, how much cash might I be parting with?

Jacob - the website "Shop" section indicates twenty bucks.

I was looking for that too, might want to include it in the review...

Season progression:

Each time you harvest a new field, the season changes. If you get stuck, you can return to earlier fields to stock up on lives and bonus crops (and maybe find a Secret Challenge). The season will not "advance" when you re-harvest a field.

Hint:

It may be easier to find flowers in the winter, because they get frozen in ice blocks.

Thanks for commenting, Rabidlab. It'd be nice if players had a place to talk (like a forum or something) about Dodge that Anvil. The vast majority of sites online don't have any info on it (only about your demo from last March or something) and no tips or hints for players.

Argh! I took a secret "warp burrow" to level 2, and now I can't get back! Help!

Great game! So much fun... but man it gets really hard by the end. Can't beat the last level yet, but I've solved/beaten most of the other levels, so if you need help, comment!
