Dismantlement: Earth

It's been a while since we last saw Gam.eBBjp's beloved point-and-click puzzle Dismantlement games, and since then, they seem to have taken one thing to heart... go big, or go home. Like, really, really big. In Dismantlement: Earth, you are literally taking apart the world like some passive-aggressive Galactus, but with a noble goal... to disarm the bombs inside! To play, just click to interact, using the small arrows at the top, bottom, and sides of the planet to move around, and the button in the upper-right corner to back out of something you've zoomed in on. You'll quickly discover that the game is largely all about cracking codes, as you open various panels with strange puzzle locks inside them, and I hope you're not expecting too much help from the game, since it takes a decided "sink or swim" approach and demands you to figure things out on your own. For most players, this is exactly what they've come to expect and love about Dismantlement games, and Dismantlement: Earth is great at appearing to be completely mystifying, but often holding solutions that don't need to be overthought... even if you wind up doing so anyway. Most of the solutions you'll need to unravel come down to perspective in a clever way, though two will need you to look somewhere for inspiration that you may not immediately think of, and the finale comes with a ticking clock. Dismantlement: Earth is a solid chunk of gameplay, though not as whimsical or weird as some other entries in the series, and puzzle fans will be happy to crack open each and every layer it provides.

Walkthrough Guide

Nice.

I feel like doing a Walkthrough:

Note regarding the flags: nowhere in this game they need to be related to the nations they otherwise represent. So there is no geopolitical knowledge required to solve it.

Layer 1:

North:

Correct are the L shaped figures where the white box of the L shape is opposite to the black box in the guide.

Easth:

Here you have to think the image from the first row above the flag images in the second row. Then the dominant color makes a letter.

HTZO

South:

This is just negatives with a box a bit bigger than the images given.

FLCE

West:

You just match the color of the flags.

Denmark, Algeria, Scottland, France

Center:

You need North, East, South and West of Layer 1 solved first.

Just flip the imagines in your mind along the line. Z has the diagonal line in the wrong direction, ignore that.

North: N
East: H
South: "Z"
West: M

Layer 2:

North:

You need West and East solved first.

Follow the blue lines, they connect to what can also represent a letter.

SLEO

East:

The color above the number box represents the color you should pay attention to on the cover, up or down box the area to pay attention to.

3407

South:

This is related to the satellite.

Just take for the black boxes the corresponding boxes in the satellite, they form a letter.

OCLU

West:

The numbers are simply written on the top. They just touch each other.

2525

Final:

The values are the amount of gray in the corresponding boxes in the satellite.

It is all 50.

So umm...if anyone just felt an earthquake, my bad. I just dismantled the Earth. Won't happen again.

Reply

Lol. I blew it up. Sorry if anyone felt that.

Done in 8:33. Is it me, or they are becoming simplier? I remember having a lot of trouble with radio, fan and HDD ones.

Not just you

Yeah, I just kind of guessed on the deactivation code and got it right the first time. Still not 100% sure what the logic behind it was.

Yeahhh...
The tea canister was the one that did me in.
(Mouse mazes... why?)

This was a huge letdown.
I was expecting a big game. What I found was a minigame.
The radio was more complex than this.

Reply

The logic behind it was:

Percentage shaded on the corresponding squares on the satellite.

Reply

This one was a little shorter than I expected, but quite fun. Could someone please explain the last puzzle to me? I got it, and have no idea why my solution worked!

Reply

Thanks, Emily. That makes sense now!

Reply

So satisfying. I forgot all about these games

Reply

Apparently, I'm the only one not getting the 3x3 gray-scale puzzle. Just not seeing how to turn those patterns into letters. Trying every trick I can think of, but nothing. What am I missing?

Reply

I agree with everyone. That one was a little too easy compared to the old ones. Still fun, but really no challenge.

Reply

Kurt, you and me are both stuck at the same place. I can't figure out the darned grey-scale puzzle.

Reply

kurt, Avi - pre-POP. i was stuck at the same place, but then i realized. you have to look at the satellite as well...

Reply

Thanks grayk. I saw that, but thought it was a puzzle to be solved after I solved the letters. Over-thinking again. :-\

Still stuck on the letters.

Am I supposed to be looking at the dark shapes or the negative space? And how does the satellite play in, I already used it for the

North puzzle with the grids

Reply

To figure out the letters:

Each shape can be flipped along the axis with the line. So the "shirt" image is really an "M". Note that one of them has a backwards "Z"...

POP. I was WAY overthinking. Dang.

Reply

Any tips for the second lvl south ABC puzzle? I cannot see a relationship between the shaded squares, the satellite, and the alphabet.

I enjoyed the puzzles, and it was nice that you never needed outside knowledge to solve. Solved it in fifteen minutes, which included looking up the flags before realizing that wasn't necessary.

I miss the early dismantlement games where the pieces overlapped. It would have been nice if there were more pieces to disassemble, and some parts where you just got to hunt for screws.

Reply

That was cute! Maybe not quite as involved in terms of actual dismantling as the previous games, but I enjoyed sinking my teeth into the codes. Great to see another one in the series, I hope we get another one soon!

There's new dismantlement out, lunch box 3. Could you review it? I could write a walkthrough, if you want.

It's not out on the official list, because it hasn't been translated yet, just so you know why.
