Difficult Questions About VideogamesA few months ago I mentioned that I had contributed to a book written about video games. Compiled and edited by James Newman and Iain Simons, the answers to several questions about videogames were collected from people in the games industry and beyond. A few of those questions were:

  • What is a videogame?
  • What is gameplay?
  • Why do you play videogames?
  • Why is playing videogames fun?
  • How can you tell if a videogame is rubbish?

Just this week, the book was made available free at the PublicBeta website for only the cost of postage. So, what are you waiting for? Find out what some famous names in the games industry (and I) think about the games we play. Click.

hmm... any way to get it shipped to the US?

Although I am not certain of this, they will probably ship it to you for the cost of overseas shipping. It can't amount to much, as the book is a smallish paperback book of approximately 350 pages.

cool I'll be on the look out for it next time I'm in the book store

I've ordered one. They are able to send them to New Zealand, so I'm sure its no problem getting one shipped to the US.

This will be a very interesting book. I've got a lot of opinions about videogames, and what makes for good gameplay. So it will be interesting to see if anyone offers similar views to my own.

Jay, if you hear of anyone else putting together research on Videogames, I'd be very keen to contribute an essay outlining my thoughts on gameplay.

Cheers,
Brent.

wow, they are considering Estonia as part of Europe finally. I am going to order it :)

Shipping to the US is 8 UK pounds, which amounts to about $15 in USD. What the heck, I ordered a copy, but I think Jay should have gotten a referral credit ;)

Hey Tony!

Estonia is definitely part of Europe, and one of the nicest too IMHO. It's so prettttty. I was in Tallinn during the summer. Beautiful! Why does Estonia have such a bad rep?!
